Trump's Second Term

Donal from yesterday before the Game, another pop at Canada and Trudeau

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump

I'll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.
I will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend. But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome.
Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting!
PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

I missed this one yesterday.
WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:
"The President looks forward to watching the game tonight, and we look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state, Canada."
The whole "USA taking over Canada" talk and the impending trade war has caused something most Canadians would have never thought possible: It is actually turning Canadians against Wayne Gretzky...

Canadians online aren't too happy with Wayne Gretzky's appearance as Team Canada's honorary captain... picking him to represent Team Canada at this moment is regarded by many as a controversial choice, considering his friendship with U.S. President Donald Trump...

On the other hand, the woman who sang the Canadian national anthem had a rather creative dig at the Americans...

Chantal Kreviazuk’s ‘O Canada’ lyric change at 4 Nations final draws praise, criticism: ‘Loving the nuances’ to ‘Disrespectful’.. . “True patriot love....That only us command,” belted Kreviazuk, during a pivotal part of the anthem, changing the lyrics from “In all of us command.”

wearing sunglasses inside and following an event where he at times had a hard time speaking coherently, Elon Musk walks off the CPAC stage waving around a chain saw. this is the guy currently running our government. Congrats, America!

Ladies and gentlemen, President Dwayne Elonia Tesla Camacho.

...Okay, that's not fair, Camacho wanted the best for his people and listened to the experts.

edit: I note that Bannon didn't look like he dared do a proper Sieg Heil. That was half-hearted.

So . . . I don't think Musk et al can make a big fuss about whether the gold is still in Fort Knox, finally go into Fort Knox, and then publicly say, "oh, okay, it's all there." I don't think they can raise the possibility of a big scandal and then admit there was no scandal after all.

The least bad option is that they'll make up find some peculiarities or confusing bit and start a long investigation that'll quietly fizzle out.

But if they're being true-to-form and planning to give a bunch of hackers unrestricted access to the security system . . .

They'll just never mention Fort Knox again. The average MAGA has the attention span of a goldfish, and there's always some new outrageous lie to grab their attention.

The more I read about Al Dunlap's serial accounting gimmicks, the more I think some of it applies to DOGE.

If this was an Oceans Eleven movie, the entire MAGA project would turn out to be a very long play of setting up the con, and after visiting Fort Knox Trump and Musk will disappear, probably to Mars. The baffled guards will open the vault on Monday morning to find all the gold is gone.

Neither, because I'm not a nazi, but thanks for proving my point.

I suppose the point that other posters, including Gulliver Foyle are trying to make is that if you call yourself a Republican then you are associated with the Trumpist MAGA party, its policies and so on. You may try to distance yourself from those policies but they are so intrinsic to the party that calling yourself a Republican who disagrees with the Trumpist MAGA agenda makes as much sense as calling yourself a vegan who eats meat, when plant based alternatives are easily and affordably available - sooner or later you either have to stop eating meat or stop claiming to be vegan.

If you are genuinely against the MAGA Republican party then perhaps you are a former Republican. Heck the Democratic Party has lurched so far to the right in an attempt to capture the centrist vote that they're politically to the right of the Republican Party of Reagan, Bush I, Nixon or Eisenhower.

Which of the Democratic Party's current actual policy platforms (as opposed to the caricatures and fabrications of the policies in the right wing media) are too left wing for you to associate yourself with that party ?

A smart man once said in this thread that by continuing to be a US citizen, you are also associating yourself with the fat clown, and besides, I have my own personal reasons for staying a republican that are none of your business, and I'm personally tired of arguing the point because my actions and comments in this thread (and elsewhere) proves that I'm not a maga weirdo.

Actually, it's a stupid thing to argue about, but if it makes you feel better, knock yourself out.

I have my personal reasons for continuing to be a republican, and that doesn't automatically make me a maga weirdo, but a real skeptic would know that already.
I have seen you make that claim before, but you never seen to give those "personal reasons".

A skeptic is someone who looks at the evidence with a rational mind. Who considers the source of the evidence to see how much weight they should be given, and measures it against competing evidence.

If you are not going to give those "personal reasons" then you are just expecting us to just accept something with no evidence. That is pretty much the opposite of being a skeptic.

Because they're personal and none of anyone's damn business but my own.

You're begging the question that only "MAGA weirdos" would still register as Republicans.

Yeah, this. Trump/Musk have never been about raising and then seriously investigating issues with any intent to honestly report outcomes- their only interest in "scandals" is in how they can create and then use them to entertain their MAGA audience. If one doesn't pan out, they'll just move on to another; after all, how many MAGAs even remember, much less hold it against them, that that whole "Haitians eating the cats and dogs" thing came to nothing in the end, or that Vance effectively admitted to manipulating them by inventing it to begin with?
