Trump's Second Term

ok, i think you're roughly on the right track. but the root of the issue is why is trump afraid of putin? putin can do something to trump that can harm him, what is it? there's a reason why trump does what he says and allows him to insult him publicly without ever saying a word, he's got a weird nickname for everyone that looks at him funny and goes to the end of the earth to get revenge of decades old slights against windmills. like, obviously we don't really know what the exact reason is and this is speculative, but imo it's more than he respects him as a dictator or something silly.

imo it's established that trump and putin coordinated to get him elected, they meet and talk secretly and have been documented as having done so more than once. what they talk about is anyone's guess, but putin says what he wants, trump does it. putin insults trump publicly, trump never retaliates in kind even though it's basically the only thing he does to every other person on the planet. putin has some kind of power over trump to get him to do what he wants, it's not voodoo. but it's something.
Trampy is a bully and a coward. They always punch down and cower up. All Putain is is a more effective bully than Trampy.

... but the root of the issue is why is trump afraid of putin?
What evidence is there Trump is afraid of Putin?

Trump's hurting Ukraine because he wants to. That's just revenge. Trump's selling Russia what it wants for a payoff. Putin needs a way out of his horrible mistake. Trump will sell it to him for lucrative mineral rights underneath Putin's conquered lands.

Why does there need to be anything Trump is afraid of here? The only thing he needs to worry about is if the rest of the West closes ranks and actually stops Russia winning, so he doesn't get his deal and looks like a loser as well as the bad guy. He's already the bad guy.

CNN reported, "But the list of contracts, published to a DOGE website Monday night, raises questions about the accuracy of that tally. The website appears to have used erroneous federal data to claim that DOGE saved taxpayers $8 billion by canceling a single US Immigration and Customs Enforcement contract that was actually worth a maximum of $8 million."

There are more general problems. As noted in both stories, blanket purchase agreements list a maximum dollar amount, not what was spent. NPR reported, ""There's no doubt that these young people [Musk] has working for him are very intelligent coders, genius coders, but they're limited," retired senior contracting officer Christopher Byrne said, referring to DOGE team members who have apparently been identifying cuts across government agencies. "They don't understand the processes, they don't understand how things work, they don't understand contracts, they don't understand grants," Byrne said."
That's a very charitable assessment by Mr Byrne, they're idiot rich kids that have skated through life on daddy's money until it was found that they're to spoiled, too indisciplined and too stupid to hold down a proper job.

I really don't think the stuff about Trump being afraid of, or beholden to, Putin are relevant here.

He's punishing Ukraine because he's a pathological narcissist who never forgets a slight, so they have to suffer defeat for failing to dish the dirt on the Bidens as he wanted, and he's going to make Russia pay hundreds of billions to let them win (payment in kind, in the form of mineral rights in conquered Ukraine).
He'll get not one red cent from Ruzzia, he's Putain's tool, not a member of the inner circle.

Again... Putin has been a standover merchant supreme since his St Petersberg days. He used the motorcycle gangs, ultra-patriots all, as his enforcers. Still does, apparently. Putin has bullied his way to the top of the Russian mafia, not known for their pity, and was already incineratingly rich long before Trump ran for office in 2015. Trump has always been in debt to the mafia, a leftover from his dad's days as top-of-the-heap. Putin has almost certainly been bankrolling Trump via Middle East go-betweens, or at least ensuring his credit cards never run dry, for a very long time now. Every Trumpy contact with Putin is not national diplomacy. They don't talk about international treaties or trivia like that. It is Trump visiting his private finance manager to see how much credit he has left. The alleged pee-pee tape is nothing. Putin has Donny's pearly-pink little balls in his bottom desk drawer. Donny is being forced to not just agree with what Putin says, he also has to promote and provide what Putin wants. One step out of line, one too many contradictions of Putin, not providing Putin what Putin demands (right now, an unstable USA and Ukraine), and Donny is in serious, SERIOUS doo-doo. I suspect there's a big window at the top of the Burj Khalifa reserved for him to fall out of. And he knows it.

I missed this one yesterday.

WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:

"The President looks forward to watching the game tonight, and we look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state, Canada."
It's his ear-worm at the moment. And his staff know that they had previously stung Canada into a reaction. So they will try punching that bruise again.

How soon till Musk and Trump decide we have to spend all the gold to buy Bitcoin?
Once he's actually seen the gold reserve he'll have an idea of how big a statue he can build.
Look upon his works, ye mighty, and cringe at the bad taste.

Vance at CPAC:

"Our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge ... my message to young men is don't allow this broken culture to send you a message that you're a bad person because you're a man, bc you like to tell a joke, bc you like to have a beer with your friends."
Same message that the Hitler Jügend taught. By the start of the second world war Germany was beginning to experience a dearth in qualified university applicants because of the toxic messaging.

I'm hoping the one good thing that comes out of this is Europe seriously gets behind Ukraine and ups its own defences (and no that won't be the result of Trump playing 4d chess, it's the result of him bringing his crappy business practices into geo-politics). Would require further investment but we make good weapons and could be a shot in the arm for our manufacturing industry.

And yes, I'm happy to pay more taxes to do so.

I fear that the 'ordinary' person in Europe will balk at such spending but hopefully our leaders will show leadership.

We have relied too heavily on the US but that suited us both (something Trump fails to understand) and now they are unceremoniously dumping us. Time we stepped up because, and I don't think I'm being hysterical here, our freedom depends on it.
It's less that the ordinary person will baulk at paying taxes, they do that no matter what, but that governments will baulk at making rich people pay any taxes. And yes, I would be happy if I had to pay more taxes for better defences and public services.

I apologize if this sounds harsh, plague311, but what boggles my mind is a skeptic making a blanket statement with no proof.

My reasons for continuing to be a registered republican is personal and no one's business but my own.

I have been called a nazi just because I won't lie and say I'm a dem.

Do you think that's fair?

And on top of that, it feels like 99.9% of my fellow republicans have turned into little zombie replicas of the lying, fat clown and it pisses me off!!!

Would you call yourself a good or a reasonable nazi?
