I guess we will see sometime in the next four years. I don't think I'm all that optimistic, its going to be a ◊◊◊◊ show but it isn't the end of American democracy in a storm of viruses and detention camps either.

You say this like it isn’t exactly what is being advertised and we’re all just imagining it.

Trump put an anti-vaxxer in charge of public health during a time when anti-vaxxersim is at a high water mark. We’re only a few years out from thousands upon thousands of people dying preventable deaths because they weren’t vaccinated and zero lessons were learned. If you don’t see that as a recipe for an epic disaster, you are fooling yourself to the point of delusion.

And they’ve said over and over again that they’re going to start rounding up immigrants beginning on day one. Do you think they’ll be getting suites at the Hilton?

I mean, what the ◊◊◊◊ are you even talking about.

unless they're just saying this to appease their base and their actual policy is the opposite, what's going to stop them?

He has about two policy ideas and the Dems are almost as bad, I notice that Biden didn't repeal any Tariffs for instance.
The repealed some and left the ones in Chinese technoogy imnports on because <drumroll> they had an actual plan to increase manufacturing in the US.
Dems have a bunch stupid ideas too, they seem to thing vast amounts of debt spending will reduce inflation for instance.
They did decrase inflation

Also, increased spending raises wages to catch up to inflation.
They seem to think that we don't need to cut spending in order to balance the budget, for instance.
Honeslty, "balanced budget" is dumb buzzword that is given far too much importance.
Binary choice, I have two parties that refuse to acknowledge reality in different ways.
"I'm not crazxy. Eveyrone else is wrong."
There wasn't a choice to vote for a candidate that wouldn't run up the debt.
Is there ever...oh wait, yes there was a Democrat running
So, your argument is that nobody should actually vote because there are no candidates that don't have some policy they disagree with.
More like "know what you're talking about".

Are you talking about RFK Jr. or the guy who presided over Operation Warp SpeedWP?
The guy who said vaccines cause autism. Oh, wait, they both said that.

The guy who told people not to get the vaccine when it was being rolled out in 2021. Damnit, both of them again.

The one who still downplays the dangers of COVID, especially long COVID...ok, that's everybody in charge.

imo there are two ways for american manufacturers to be competitive with china, it was either efficiency through automation or tariffs. i preferred the automation, but looks like we're running with the tariffs. terrible call. i think automation in manufacturing is incredibly misunderstood by most people.

anyway, where did they go wrong? failure to hold the traitorous elements of the gop responsible for their crimes. everything after that matters a lot less.
There's a third way: standards. If you mandate good standards, including employment ones, China can't compete.

What they've said is, they will deport illegal immigrants, a thing most Americans including immigrants agree with. They said that the last time and the kids in cages was advertised with pictures of what Obama did. We've been through it before, and it wasn't as bad as the Dems said it would be, another thing they did wrong. The last time you all said the same ◊◊◊◊ and yet, somehow, here we are. Yes, it was worse than I expected but somehow, we still had another election. By some ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ miracle, I guess. I guess, I can't expect two such miracles. If it is as bad as you expected, why aren't you planning to leave or kill him? If you actually think his election will result in mass death above what a Dem would cause, its immoral of you not to. Why hasn't Oprah hired a bunch of assassins if she really thinks this was the last election in US history? Cowardice?

Because there were guard rails before. Why are you rpetending this is the same? Will you be in the camp denying it is happening then too?

You're deluding yourself:

Trump confirms plan to declare national emergency, use military for mass deportations

The Trump administration’s next target: naturalized US citizens

They said that the last time and the kids in cages was advertised with pictures of what Obama did.

You're deluding yourself:

Close to 1,000 migrant children separated by Trump yet to be reunited with parents

AP fact check: Obama didn’t have a family separation policy

We've been through it before, and it wasn't as bad as the Dems said it would be, another thing they did wrong. The last time you all said the same ◊◊◊◊ and yet, somehow, here we are. You're deluding yourself:

Damning analysis of Trump's pandemic response suggested 40% of US COVID-19 deaths could have been avoided

If it is as bad as you expected, why aren't you planning to leave or kill him? If you actually think his election will result in mass death above what a Dem would cause, it's immoral of you not to. Why hasn't Oprah hired a bunch of assassins if she really thinks this was the last election in US history? Cowardice?

To try to bring this back around to the topic, it should be noted that this is from someone who didn't vote for Trump. Not even this person can be convinced of the existential threat this next Trump administration poses, despite it staring them right in the face.

It remains unclear how to convince someone who actually did vote for Trump of the same. If a non-Trump voter can't be convinced that putting anti-vaxxers in charge of public health is a dangerously bad idea, I'm not sure how you get through to the people who actively voted for it.

After Trump 1.0, the lesson a lot of people took away was, "The Guardrails of Democracy held! We are safe forever!"

The lesson the MAGA crowd learned was, "The Guardrails of Democracy are here, here, here, and here. Let's start planning how to remove or circumvent them."

Well, if its an existential threat, you should kill him, otherwise, you don't actually believe it. Or you don't know what existential means.

As Maddow used to say, pay attention to what he does, not what he says.

Trump is not exactly known to truth telling or promise keeping.

Haha look someone is taking Trump at his word.
Haha indeed.

Agreed, he is not that much of a threat. But he is leaning uncomfortably far in that direction. Enough so to justify treating him as what he apparently wants to become.

We will get past this term with our balls intact. He is not going to become a dictator. He's going to make timid steps in that direction and we need to meet each and every one with resolve. There's going to be a lot of hyperbole, but the threat is real, if not realistic.

The ◊◊◊◊ kind of defense is that?

You think heavy pandering antivaxxers won't affect policy?

Killing Trump wouldn't solve the problem. He's just the figurehead of a movement. So what you're suggesting is to wage literal war against millions of people, and I'm not sure how meeting one existential threat with another solves anything.

And it should be noted that you're not actually disputing that the threat exists (hand-waving is not disputing), you've just reverted to "lol do something about libs" trolling.

I am very much paying attention to what he does. Are you? Trump put an anti-vaxxer in charge of public health. And he's not done putting all of our lives in the hands of quacks. What plane of existence are you on to not see this as a really big problem?

Absolutely wild to see a self-proclaimed "skeptic" edge so close to outright defending anti-vaxxerism in the name of being a contrarian.

What plane of existence are you on to see it as relevant to what Democrats could have done better from 2020-2024?

We can hopefully all agree that Democrats are the party of science on the issue of vaccine acceptance/denialism.
