Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

I think we can say that Democracy is in suspended animation until Trump and his nominees to the SC are gone.
I think "dormant" or "suspended animation" is closer. After all, if we disregard the trivialities of a lifetime or two, we can look at Germany or Albania for some hope. Some of us will likely not live to see it, nor perhaps even our children, but we can hope (and do our part if we can) for our grandchildren.

Gaetz is not going to be confirmed, simple as that. Lots of Republicans are up in arms about this nomination, way more than the three senators needed to block it.
Oh so we're fine as long as the Republican Party up and decides to not be objectively horrible and roll over for Trump after being "very concerned" about something he's doing.

And to think we were worried...

Yeah, nothing to worry about. After all the party has behaved so honorably so far, what could possibly go wrong?

RFL as Health Secretary.
It is like Trump wants revengs on the American people for not reelecting him in 2020.
Looks as if the Maniacs will be in charge. Time for me to buy an AR 15.

well the republicans haven't let me down yet
I know all Republicans are evil has become standard doctrine around here, but you can bet behing closed doors a lot of the more stable GOPers are horrified by some of Trump's choiches.

That is what I am reading.
Gabbard will be in trouble also becuase of her Inexpreience. Defense is one thing the GOP congress critters really care about, amd see a total amateur in charge , and one who had has some questionable actions in the past, as a bad move.
I hope some in the GOP will also be up in arms about the Kennedy pick.

now that they're all horrified that he's doing exactly what he said he'd do. and it's only been a week.

yeah but i'm the big old meanie here i guess. the poor republicans, so horrified behind closed doors.

Tulsi will do a great job, she'll have Putin as her mentor.

Hope you're right. What about Gabbard and RFK Jr.?

Apparently she has:
Outraged lawmakers accused Gabbard two years ago of echoing Russian propaganda after Gabbard posted a video on social media asserting “the undeniable fact” of purported bio labs funded by the U.S. across Ukraine. She did not specify, as Russian disinformation had, that they were biological weapons labs.

Ukraine’s government, the U.S. government, news organizations and independent researchers have all said there is no evidence for the claim, which originated from Moscow.

Then-Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., said Gabbard had embraced “actual Russian propaganda” and called it “traitorous.” Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said Gabbard was “parroting fake Russian propaganda.”

I guess she backtracked somewhat by saying that "bio labs" doesn't necessarily mean biological weapons labs.

Maybe Trump knows that they won't be confirmed. It's a symbolic gesture. Payment for their loyalty. But since Senate confirmation is also required, he won't have to actually live with the consequences of those choices.

Also signs that the GOPin the Senate might be hardeining against allowing recess appointments.
The senate has more leeway then the house because the six year terms give them more wiggle room with unpooular votes then House members do.

Three is the magic number of GOPers who will have to vote against Gaerz for him to fail.

By all the non-existent gods, I hope this comes to pass. But going by all the stuff that recently that should never have happened in a sane world...I would not be the least bit surprised if Gaetz sails through unharmed on a recess appointment.

A recess appointment is unlikely to be required. I can't see enough Republican senators opposing his appointment - heck a single one would be surprising.
