Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 3

Donald says as soon as he's elected he's going to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump

We are now known, all throughout the world, as OCCUPIED AMERICA...But to everyone here in Colorado and all across our nation, I make you this vow: November 5th, 2024 will be LIBERATION DAY in America. I will rescue Aurora and every town that has been invaded and conquered—and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail or kick them the hell OUT OF OUR COUNTRY.

In honor of Jocelyn Nungaray, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and all of the others that are dead and mortally wounded at the hands of migrants who should never have been allowed into our Country, I am announcing today that upon taking office, we will have an OPERATION AURORA at the Federal Level. To expedite removals of this savage gang, I will invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American Soil.

No person who has inflicted the violence and terror that Kamala Harris has inflicted on this community can EVER be allowed to become President of the United States

It seems that Trump and his cronies have gone full Fascist in the last week.

They aren't even attempting to be subtle any more.

"The enemy from within. All the scum that we have to deal with that hate our country. That's a bigger enemy than China and Russia."

"American Greatness" PA poll might have some issues -

The organization polled 128 people in Philadelphia, of which 89 answered they vote in presidential elections “Always” or “Almost Always.” But they still withered down the Philadelphia sample all the way to 11. Yes, 11. 128 Registered Voters in Philadelphia, but only 11 Likely Voters. The RV to LV reduction in other areas of the state was nothing like this.

It produced a result of -

Among Registered Voters: Harris leads by 4. Among Likely Voters Trump leads by 1.

When contacted about the issue, they apparently stated that it was intentional, not an accidental error.

Naturally, this is one poll and does not directly reflect on how well done other polls are. It does serve as a warning, though, and supports suspicions of strategic poll manipulation by Republicans.

I was leafing through a book on American voters. We do have to give Trump credit for his giant strawman. Reagan got the current hatred of the federal government going. But then it was a sort of "so what?" situation. The issue has to go over some threshold for them to vote. The low info low income voter did not really get involved in policy, or voting. The brilliant move was to make migrants and Democrats the cause of their misery. Add to that fear of migrants as criminals and the soup was ready.

Reagan could not solve or blame migrants. He was president 8 years and was in charge. He finally let them all in.

I an a cynic and expect every politican to lie; it is all abut the nature and extent of the lying.
As someone said, Trump makes Baron Muchaunsen look like a amateur.
And he is not even a smart liar. His lies are so easily exposed.
I suspect most people who vote for him know he is lying about a lot, but vote for him out of pure tribal political party loyalty, or are under the impression that somehow the GOP can "control " him.

I think that's true for some but there's another cohort that seems to really believe the lies.

I think of the people reporters spoke with in Springfield, OH after the debate who were quite convinced that Haitians were eating pets even though a mere few weeks before they had probably never even conceived of the idea.

My neighbour is much the same. This morning he was talking about the government controlling the weather which is something he had never even mentioned before and yet suddenly it was a core belief of his. As far as he was concerned it was always happening. We were always at war with eastasia.

Its as if these lies come burbling up from the right wing ecosphere and followers simply adjust their reality to match. Maybe a psychologist could explain this because I struggle to understand this phenomenon.

We are truly headed toward 1984.

Usatoday and CNN have both run headlines recently that point out the fact that Trump is faring better in polls than he did in 2020 or 2016. Which truly makes you wonder why half the electorate wants a wannabe dictator/convicted felon/adjudicated sexual predator/moron/dementia stricken/easily manipulated/buffoon for a leader.
I think it is really pretty simple: people will always vote based on their wallet. Despite huge gains in some sectors of the economy, the majority simply feel they are not better off than they were 4 years ago (and lets face it, until covid the economy was ok, since it was inherited from Obama) and they are too stupid to realize that Biden does not dictate the world economy. So they want change, and Trump represents that albeit in a horrific way.
They then adjust all the facts to suit this pseudo reality where Trump will fix everything in 24 hours, as he has promised.
If he is elected, I'm not sure it will mean the complete collapse of America. He probably will do some things to keep it afloat, like completely deplete our fossil fuels to keep oil prices down. Of course, in the long term it will spell disaster, but Trump obviously doesn't care, he just wants to be worshiped while he is still alive.
And people are stupid enough to grant him his perverse wishes.

Some old people came to shop at our yard sale. Betwen the two of them they might have some short term memory left. They prpbably have been voting for 60 years. They might not know who Harris is, and do have some vague idea of Trump. But the word REPUBLICAN is next to half the candidates (other than school board, judges) so they will vote that.

I wonder who he plans to declare war on. Every country with brown people? Every ******** country?

The Alien Enemies Act (officially "An Act Respecting Alien Enemies") was passed to supplement the Alien Friends Act, granting the government additional powers to regulate non-citizens that would take effect in times of war. Under this law, the president could authorize the arrest, relocation, or deportation of any male over the age of 14 who hailed from a foreign enemy country.
