Merged Protests disrupt college campuses / Campus Protests

Indeed. I think that is likely to be true of many of the protesters. They don’t really know what they are talking about and that puts the lie to the idea that they are a horde of anti-semites. Most of them are likely to be moved by the images of bombings of the buildings in Gaza.

Here's the thing that we all have to accept about various groups, groups we belong to and groups we oppose, there's lots of different folks with lots of different agendas and knowledge in them.

These protests clearly include folks that are genuinely horrified by starving kids, some understand the last 100 years of history that created this situation, some have no idea and think it all started on October 8th, some are rabid antisemites, some just seem to think that all things western, European, and/or American are bad. It makes nut picking easy and useful dialogue and solutions hard.

So, they shouldn't demonstrate against a US ally using US tax payer weapons and support to shoot, bomb and starve innocent men, women, and children?

Again, look into his history. It references a very specific incident when he tried to get a college professor "canceled".
Let's stipulate he was wrong to do that; does this mean he must always be factually or morally wrong? This is rationalism 101 stuff.

Well, that's a fair assessment of what I was saying.

ETA, I will say, if you say don't know what river or what sea, then you probably shouldn't be chanting things like "from the river to the sea Palestine shall be free..." of Jews.

I see no reason to give a damn what he has to say.

I see even elss need to discuss him over the fact that a US ally is using US weapons and support to shoot, bomb, and starve innocent men, women, and children.

That wasn't meant for you. sorry. You're the one person who atleast acknowledges thats a legit cocnern.

One wonders why they weren't motivated to protest by the rape, murder, burning alive, and beheading of innocent civilians, and intent to commit actual genocide that started this war.

Because they actually liked it. Here is an activist with an enthusiastic crowd praising the Oct. 7th attacks.

Here is the director of a sexual assault center (yes, you read that right) questioning the reports of sexual assault during the Oct. 7th attacks.

What's running through their minds is an attempt to undo some of the "evils" of new world colonization by effectively genociding Israeli culture.

Axios has a poll of college students nationwide. Surprisingly, they ranked the conflict in the Middle East last among nine political issues. Note this little detail:

A majority of people (58%) who participated in or favored protests against Israel said they would not consider being friends with someone who has marched for Israel.

Meanwhile, 64% of those who participated in a pro-Israel protest said they would still be friends with someone who has marched against Israel.

I would bet that most of the protesters are far better informed about the situation than most if not all on this forum, myself included.

It is lazy and ignorant to dismiss them as uninformed - they are getting 1st hand information from their relatives on the ground, both out of Israel and out of Gaza - that's something that basically no other group in the world can draw on for information.

What is obvious is that people are too scared to learn what is going on for fear that they might have to side with the protesters or face their own complicity and hypocrisy.

Most on this forum know that "from the river to the sea" is a call for genocide.

you are proving my point - it is not.

And the confederate flag doesn't represent racism either.

"From the river to the sea Palestine will be free" Free in what way? What happens to the Jews when the lands between the river and the sea are free?

Even if that was the case, do you agree that a Palestinian State requires the killing of every Jew in the world?

It's telling how easy the G word comes when Israeli feel they are the target, and how unacceptable it is when Israeli are the targeteers

These mass protests took a while to get going. More than six months to actually become big and to spread to various campuses.

In some cases I really hope they are ignorant. That would be mitigation for them.

They should protest peacefully and/or engage in non-violent civil disobedience.

I don't believe a Palestinian state requires killing of every Jew

It's telling how easy the G word comes when Israeli feel they are the target, and how unacceptable it is when Israeli are the targeteers
Unfortunately, Israel is also between the river and the sea. What happens to Israel when Palestine is free from the river to the sea?

I wonder what ever happened to that SJW mantra of when an oppressed minority group says something is offensive then you better agree that it is offensive and stop using it otherwise you're some sort of -ist?

Oh well, I guess we can flush that one.

This just in

GWU students calling for executions.
