Cont: Luton Airport Car Park Fire III

Not open for further replies.
From any news outlet as of 10/11 October 2023: "The fire service declared a major incident at 9.38pm on Tuesday."

Perhaps you did not realise it was a current affairs issue?

So, you agree, it wasn't declared a 'major national incident'. (Whatever that is.)

Dearie me.
Condescension noted. It doesn't make you look clever even if it feels like it.
'SmartCooky' wrote 19,000 vehicles burn every year, immediately followed by and then the fire spreads and the car park is burnt down. But Luton is the first such car park to experience a structural collapse so 'SmartCooky's' claim is an embellishment of what transpires when a car catches fire. Car parks do not burn down.

Therefore, it follows ipso facto, that there was something extraordinary about the Luton one and is not the common or garden car fire that 'SmartCooky' tried to brush us all off with.
If you did not think he meant car parks burn down 19,000 times per year, maybe you shouldn't have replied "if you think car parks burn down 19,000 times per year then..." etc.

The car park began to collapse after hundreds of cars had burned for hours. That it collapsed at all appears to be unusual and notable, but this light steel construction is fairly new and it isn't necessarily alarming considering the Liverpool car park had to be demolished too.

Blaming the collapse on some secret property of the car which began the fire is just magical thinking on your part.

I'd like to say that I can confirm that I'm a human. I'm not a Reptilian, Zetan, Grey, Reticulan or any other form of space alien bent on obtaining "delicious human meats".
That's a suspiciously specific denial. Are you an alien seeking to steal Earth's water? A time traveller? A shape-shifter from a different dimension with ambitions? Four arms optional.

It is a non sequitur designed to mislead readers into believing it is quite commonplace for a car park to burn down because b follows logically from a, his 'a' being a complete non-sequitur to his b.

The non sequitur is yours, not his. What he wrote in no way implies that it is commonplace for a car park to burn down.

Middlesex still exists.

And there's your problem with reading comprehension again.

Major incident is not the same thing as major national incident.

Evidence it was a major national incident. That word is very important.

It comes under the auspices of several departments, Fire, Police and the Secretary of State for transport. When there is an incident at an airport, for example, when some guy crashed his car into Glasgow Airport gates, it is treated as a matter of national security. With flights cancelled and 20,000 passengers stranded, of course the government is notified. Of course the first press release is carefully worded.

The idea that the investigation has opened and closed on day one is ludicrous, yet this is what people here are demanding.

Does that make it a major National incident as opposed major for the fire service involved.

I am not the 'crazy person' claiming that Mr Hopkinson got his information from the driver that all was bona fide so that is all right, then. Address your comment to the poster who suggested this must have been the case, or Hopkinson would never have said it was a diesel fire without consulting the owner of the vehicle first (as of 8:45am the following morning of the fire).

Reversing the burden of proof again.

The post I responded to was on a different subject; your complaint that the driver's identity has not been made public.

Now instead you appear to be talking about how the fire service might have learned the car was diesel powered, and demanding a poster here supply you with proof that one entirely reasonable and likely scenario is in fact what happened.

Every year approximately 13,000 people are convicted of cloning numberplates or having false numberplates. Criminals clone numberplates.
Yet again your frantic Googling for something to support your conspiracy fictions (thanks George) shows your utter lack of comprehension.
There were "13,000" logged claims of plates being cloned, mainly for the purpose of avoiding fines.
  • Actually there were about 12,000 over 18 months, but the right-wing UKian press tend to exaggerate criminality to whip up their base.
There were not nearly as many false plates in use.

Question: how can Mr. Hopkinson state confidently that the car involved in the fire was a 'diesel' only and that it was accidental? True, he did qualify his comments but within a day or so the website was stating it as fact, as was full fact.
By examining it. Simples

The ONLY explanation is that Hopkinson was ordered to say that by the government.

The reason being to protect the Tata Jaguar Land Rover brand, which had just been given a huge amount of taxpayer money for nothing.
 And now we return to Vixen's usual conspiratorial drivel.

Who has demanded this?

And it wasn't a major national incident. Beds F&R declared a major incident, not a major national incident.

The videos uploaded by 'Sam-multiple number' 0 followers, 'Bitcoin Bertie', 517 followers and 'Amy-multiple number', 222 followers have not been presented as evidence anywhere. Not one publication or broadcaster has validated it.

Yet here we are: Smart Cooky, Foster Zygote and catsmate believe in it ardently and claim to be Skeptics.

It's come to a pretty pass.
Why are you so obsessed with TwiX? I've never cited anything from TwiX or another other SMP in this thread.

Didn't answer the question.

Which junior minister ordered the fire service to tell lies?

Mr Hopkinson did not lie; he said, and it is obviously a well prepared statement and not one ad libbing off the cuff:

Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said more than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at Luton Airport. Speaking to reporters at the scene, he said: “Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s fire control received an initial 999 call at 8.47pm yesterday evening, reporting a car on fire on the third floor of the Terminal car park two behind me here at London Luton Airport.

“Our first two fire appliances arrived on scene just a shade under 10 minutes later to work alongside firefighters from Luton Airport Fire Service. On arrival my officers were faced with a severe and rapidly spreading fire involving a large number of vehicles that ultimately spread to multiple floors and involved a partial collapse of the car park.

“The incident was declared a major incident at 9.38pm. The car park has a capacity of just over 1,900 cars and we estimate up to 1,500 cars are in the affected car park. At its peak we had 15 fire appliances, over 100 firefighters and a number of specialist resources including the one you will see over my right-hand shoulder, with resources provided by neighbouring fire and rescue services. Fire crews from Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and London Fire Brigade also helped with the incident.

"One half of the structure is fully involved in fire and the building has suffered a significant structural collapse.

“We don’t believe it was an electric vehicle,” he said.
“It’s believed to be diesel-powered, at this stage all subject to verification. And then that fire has quickly and rapidly spread.”

Which part of that statement is 'lying'?

He reads out a ready prepared statement that the lawyers have passed through the junior minister that is responsible for the fire brigade, likewise the bods at the police.

Do you really believe he wrote all of that on the back of an envelope and ad libbed his way through?

I believe a senior fire officer who has been dealing with an incident is capable of speaking to the press and describing the situation without notes, let alone a script.

Although he is a mere 'employee' I believe he could do that. People who know what they are talking about can actually talk about their subject of knowledge. Why would you doubt this?

Mr Hopkinson did not lie; he said, and it is obviously a well prepared statement and not one ad libbing off the cuff:
Is that supposed to be significant?

Which part of that statement is 'lying'?

You tell us. You're the one that doesn't believe the fire started in a diesel car, a fact subsequently confirmed by an official statement.

Does that make it a major National incident as opposed major for the fire service involved.

The Secretary of State minister responsible is Chris Philp:

The Minister of State for Crime, Policing and Fire is a ministerial position held at the Home Office in the Government of the United Kingdom.[1][2][3] Holders of this office have previously held additional responsibilities such as for security, counter-terrorism and the fire service. The post had responsibility for the fire service from January 2016 to July 2019, from August 2019 to February 2020, and since September 2022.

It is just not feasible that this minister would not be directly involved at the outset.
