Midwestern Skeptic's Meeting? Chicago?

I plan on being there. When I get back from TAM, I'll book a flight and hotel room somewhere downtown.

id be willing to house a few folks for free. females get dibs though.

I'd definitely be interested in a Midwest Skeptic's meeting, seeing as how I live about 20-30 miles north of Chicago. I'm also hooked into the local skeptics/atheists/brights groups and I'm certain we could find a lot of interested people from that local community to attend.

I'll be working that night until after 10, but would love to get in on some late-night skeptical debauchery. I liked the earlier suggestion of a photo-op at the Fullerton Underpass, home of the BVMNaCl (Blessed Virgin Mary Salt Stain.)

I'm totally up for this idea. What's the latest on it?

I live about 30 miles north of Chicago, btw.

This is sooo great :jaw-dropp

I think I'll be starting my spring break that Friday, so I can probably hang out and go nuts all weekend!

If I can get it by my wife, I might be able to house one person (or two if they're a couple) at my place that weekend. Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have a very nice railway system that allows you to move from the burbs to the city and back without a car.

Bug, are you and your husband interested?

He likes chicago--it won't be a difficult sell. It will just depend on the train schedule--I HATE driving in chicago.

I don't know how you people do it.
Give me my rural dirt roads with pedestrian pigs anyday :)

so, are we going to make a reservation for this? restaurants tend to not like it when 20+ people just show up.

When I first moved here the driving terrified me, but after about a week I came to love it. Not the amount of traffic, which sucks, but the overall style of driving when traffic isn't bad. People drive fast and agressively, but they're generally smart about it; they want to get where they're going, and they tend to let other drivers get to where they're going too. It's the exact opposite of driving in my last home, the City That Accountability Forgot, where drivers generally don't have a clue, don't care how long it takes to get somewhere, and don't care how ther actions effect other drivers who might not want to spend five minutes stopped behind them while they sit in the middle of the street having a conversation with someone on the sidewalk.

actually, I hadn't thought about this before, but I really want Quinn to meet my husband, so they can have a total music geekout!

important question: vinyl or CD?

I recall hearing someone mention at TAM4 a central web site for all TAMs and like meetings. Has anyone heard anything about this? I tried a few possible URLs but to no avail.

Yeah, just what I need more of in my life. ;)

For frisbees, vinyl; for coasters, CD.

For listening, I'm a convenience junkie and not remotely an audiophile, so I'll take MP3s over either (especially now that all my vinyl and most of my CDs are gone).

well, he would definately weep over that one with you. I know it would just about kill him if he lost even a quarter of his collection. (I had to reinforce part of the living room floor so PART of the collection could go in there).

Hope I didn't make you too depressed. Mostly, I was hoping to forestall the long "why vinyl is better" speech that I have heard about 59 times now by cueing you appropriately :D

We'd probably ride the Metra train going into Chicago and back. There's a Metra station about a 10 minute walk from my house in the burbs.

Let's keep in touch on this -- the guest room is always ready.
