Midwestern Skeptic's Meeting? Chicago?

I live in the western suburbs and would love to meet others in the area. Downtown sounds good to me, and any of the pizza places would be great. I'm heading to TAM4 (first timer). Anyone else from around Chicago going?

OK!

Geno's it is, by fiat.

March 18th, again by fiat.

Time? How about 1800, 6:00 PM CST?

From there, we go clubbing, led by the first Chicagoan that speaks up.

Anyone have problems?

Whichever's downtown, or closest to the 'cultural amenities'.
Let me know and I'll make a formal announcement. We'll get a headcount and make some reservations.

If we go more than they are willing to have in the restaurant, we may have it catered in a hotel ballroom somewhere, in which case there will be an actual registration that will include dinner. And if we do this, then someone will have to put a speech together, most likely. We could always invite fowlsound or someone to speak of their experiences.

Oh, and perhaps get some hotel rates for our out-of-towners. If we get enough of those, we might qualify for a group rate.

Abdul, mi amigo, you may just have to pitch in and help organize.

Unless someone else wants to....

*crickets chirp*

Right.

So it looks like you and me and whomever wants to join in. I'll help organize, but I'll need a runner in Chicago to set stuff up. You're nominated, seconded and elected.

Unless you can con some help.

Alright, cool.

Workable.

So, pick a Genos and give us the address. March 18, at about 6.

Good enough, then?

Something to consider: March 18 is awfully close to St. Paddy's. Might want to reconsider the date in the interest of avoiding raucous crowds. Unless that's the desired scene?

Also I have nothing against Gino's...but another place to consider (just because I drove right by there today) is Goose Island. But it's location is kinda out of the Loop. (literally!)

I'm not trying to bully here, so if anyone has anything better, please speak up. I tend to be a decisive type, in case anyone missed it, and have been accused to such before, but it isn't my intent.

Last call: Is this workable?

Not at all. When trying to get multiple people moving in the same direction, it is helpful to stick a flag in the ground by picking a date and time. I'm quite sure that no matter what date you pick, it will be bad for at least one person. I think moving from the 18th to the 25th was a good choice, because I know St Patty's Day is a pretty big deal in Chicago.

Marked in my calendar. Barring the unforseen, I'm there. I might easily get a gig that night, but hopefully it will be later.

Done then.

TAM 4.1 is on wheels. If the bloody New Englanders can claim TAM 3.5, then I'm taking 4.1. Hell with em.

Hmmmmm.

Think I ought to take a headcount? Have folks PM me? Seems like a decent idea to know how many we can expect..(I'll take the number and divide by two. Having 'organized' these things before, I have found this to be a good rule. I hereby name it 'Clarsct's Law'.)

I'll make a few announcements on community boards on different forums.

Flag planted, thanks, Scrut. and everyone else, too. Thanks to all for your input. Look foward to seeing you guys.
