So he was waiting for applause, or some kind of audible reaction? I wasn't sure there actually WAS an audience for that interview. But it's true that whenever Musk has appeared before a crowd outside of an actual dedicated Tesla or SpaceX fan event, he is always surprised at how unpopular he is among the general public. My favorite example of this is when Dave Chappelle brought Musk onstage at a live show last year and the reaction from Chappelle's own fans to Musk was so hostile that Chappelle had to stop the act briefly to scold them.

It's almost charming that Musk thinks "the Earth" would be so upset at Twitter's passing that the whole of humanity would demand accountability from companies who stopped advertising on it.

It's the kind of thought process you go through when you're so utterly self centred that you think other people are there solely to carry out your will, validate your odeas and further your goals. I've met a few people like Musk in my life.

That's what he was doing at first but then he was looking for the camera and lost track of it. The goal was probably to do the same line while looking straight down the barrel, thinking it would look 'tough'. When he couldn't locate one, he just said it again, flustered.

Not sure... he seemed in some kind of... dissociative state. Or on drugs. Dunno, I'm not a psychiatrist, but he just goes from twitchy to staring into space and going repeatedly "G... F... Y" no matter what the interviewer says. Plus right at the beginning he says something like "I've only agreed because we're friends"... and gets the interviewer's name completely wrong.

I wasn't sure there actually WAS an audience for that interview.

Oh there was. You can hear them at times. Plus, that's why they were on a stage, otherwise it would just be in a room facing each other or something.

Not sure it was packed with executives, though.

As for Samson's anyone feeling unsafe comment - encouraging bullying, including cyberbullying, just isn't a healthy thing for society. Not really much point in discussing things further if Samson actually is just dismissing the nature and effects of cyberbullying.

When asked for the names of those he was referring to he was only able to give one name. He is fine with people wanting to kill trans kids, kill the mentally ill, kill the homosexuals and so on being let back onto the platform. So far, so good.

I had been opening Twitter every couple of days. I miss some of the back-and-forth, but don’t miss the hard right wing perspectives and anti-vax sentiment.

“Post” doesn’t have quite the same feel yet. Weird interface where you sometimes have to use “points” to read content. I guess that’s how they monetize content, and it’s way less intrusive than the incessant ads on Twitter. But between that and Apple News and YouTube and podcasts and forums, I don’t think I’m missing much.

Yesterday I deleted the “X” app from both my phone and my iPad, to avoid the temptation. Next step will be deleting my account, but I’m still steeling myself up for that.

And speaking as a former trans(ed)-girl, I can tell them: tough luck. Deal with it. Learn to take the fire or get out of the kitchen. Nobody owes you a damn thing, much less to pretend your fantasies are true. Not any more than anyone needs to pretend I'm actually a TIE Fighter pilot when I look at the bright lights and dials on my car's dashboard.

At the end of the day, you're still just a guy in a skirt (I know I was), or a girl in pants. And maybe some falsies like I had. And whether they actually say it or pretend otherwise or they're just too dumbfounded to actually say it (hi to my old high school teachers!), that's what 90% of the people around you will see you as. And about 3 out of 4 of those will see you as, at the very least, weird. Again, learn to take the fire or get out of the kitchen. YOU are the one making demands of their behaviour, not the other way around, and they don't have any obligation to comply.

But, again, they don't owe you a damn thing. You don't get to try to cancel them if they do the thought crime of thinking different than you do. And no, you're not entitled to an echo-chamber either

Trans people could also, despite your statements here, use theirs and others platforms to raise awareness about the issues happening. They don't just need to "get out of the fire" or whatever the **** you're talking about.

You're right in that no one can forcefully change their behavior but educating people about issues they're ignorant about often changes perspectives.

Lastly, anyone can try to cancel any ******* person they want and no one can tell them different. If someone is being rude, ignorant, or discriminatory then that should be brought out for everyone to see. I whole-heartedly encourage anyone that's being harassed to do everything in their power to "cancel" those doing the harassing. That should be the default position.

Where is this coming from? The post you quoted was referring to crime statistics about race, gender, and discriminatory based crimes. Do you not believe those who commit crimes based on that criteria should be held responsible? What silencing is being done? I've read a lot of this thread and it seems like the exact opposite is happening.

It was actually just answering to a post who was answering to another one citing "hate crimes" -- and I don't know what kind of confusion of mind would make one think I'm answering to every grand- and even grand-grand-father post -- but as far as I can tell even that one doesn't say they were on Twitter or influenced by Twitter or anything.

Nor really does it seem to have any criteria I can discern as to what's actually illegal hate speech, as determined by a court and jury, and what some makes some snowflake feel hated if anyone disagrees with him.

It's just cases recorded by the police, I.e., reported, not actually judged to be such. And there seems to be no attempt to compensate for how much more of a percentage is reported, vs how much more is happening.

And there seems to be no breakdown as to how many are about the trans or about race or anything.

I mean, frankly, a lot of fundies think it's hate speech if you're talking about atheism. UFO CT-ers feel hated if you say there are no UFOs. Etc. I'd like to see more evidence.

But generally, the point is that recently there are a lot of snowflakes having an extreme allergic reaction to anyone being able to say anything else than their pet belief. Be that about us trans, or about Trump, or anything in between. And I'm saying, suck it up, buttercup, you're not the censor of what everyone else should write or read.
