So he was waiting for applause, or some kind of audible reaction? I wasn't sure there actually WAS an audience for that interview. But it's true that whenever Musk has appeared before a crowd outside of an actual dedicated Tesla or SpaceX fan event, he is always surprised at how unpopular he is among the general public. My favorite example of this is when Dave Chappelle brought Musk onstage at a live show last year and the reaction from Chappelle's own fans to Musk was so hostile that Chappelle had to stop the act briefly to scold them.
It's almost charming that Musk thinks "the Earth" would be so upset at Twitter's passing that the whole of humanity would demand accountability from companies who stopped advertising on it.
It's the kind of thought process you go through when you're so utterly self centred that you think other people are there solely to carry out your will, validate your odeas and further your goals. I've met a few people like Musk in my life.
