Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

So far, my transition to Post is going pretty smoothly. I wish more of the folks I followed on Twitter were there, but so it goes.

It still feels less familiar, but between that and Apple News I feel like I’m still adequately keeping up with things.

So this happened, and we're so inured to Musk's craptasticness we didn't comment. He hit rock bottom a while ago.

There's an episode of Knowledge Fight about it.

Sam Harris also had something to say about it at the beginning of his latest podcast episode.

David Pakman also had something to say about it, but mostly focused on Vivek Ramaswamy taking a leak during the call while on a hot mic.

Apparently Netflix will resume advertising on Twitter. And all the predictions of Twitter’s demise.

Yeah, that'll fix everything. :boggled:

Trying to find out more about this, my Googling only threw up stories from the usual crypto and conspiracy sites.

Of course this doesn't mean that the story isn't accurate, it could just be that the mainstream media doesn't consider it particularly newsworthy.

Looks like they did.

This story links to ads on Twitter by Netflix.

Is this true? Jaw on floor.

What, that he told advertisers to GFY? Yeah, it's true.

Sad thing is:

1. It wasn't even a hostile reporter or anything. Musk really only had to repeat the stuff about how it's a free speech platform, that includes stuff you don't like to hear, ad placement is not meaning you endorse it, bla bla bla. Companies have been accused of worse stuff and spun it off to be acceptable with PR. Instead Twitch gets a man-child throwing a tantrum.

2. It's a situation of his creation in the first place. Advertisers only started to care when Musk himself started endorsing dumb far-right CTs. So if he had just kept out of that, he'd probably be... well, not having that problem. But nope, he just had to be a full-tilt Tinkerbellend, and act like he'll literally disappear if people don't think about him every day.

The best part about that moment is how he keeps defiantly glaring out into the offstage void in between his words, like he's searching for a camera that never manages to catch him face-on, so it just looks like some awkward tic.

X to be investigated for allegedly breaking EU laws on hate speech and fake news
EU launches proceedings against Elon Musk’s social media platform under new Digital Services Act

Well, I never saw that coming?
Musk single handedly creating real world pain for kids from micro aggressions. Damaged for life. Probably being misgendered. This is the end.
God help the world cos the EU sure won't.

Or alternatively get a life and an education, not an indoctrination.

Musk should tell the EU to do an awkward owner operator act.

You're turning this into your hobby horse again.

Hate speech covers a wide range of topics, not just the thing you are fixated on.

Nice way to defend hate speech btw.

Actually Galaxy Brain was searching the audience in panicked surprise because he thought a room full of multinational company execs would have the same delighted reaction to his toddler tantrums as his far-right magachud twitter followers do and that his employees are forced to simulate.

Why, did the EU force Galaxy Brain to break the law?

Just because you think the sun shines from his posterior doesn't make it true. In fact given it's you cheerleading Galaxy Brain, we've a strong indicator that the opposite is true.

How long will it take him to realize European users outnumber his cadre of magats?

Shut down twatter even partially in the world for hare speech and it starts a chain reaction.

So he was waiting for applause, or some kind of audible reaction? I wasn't sure there actually WAS an audience for that interview. But it's true that whenever Musk has appeared before a crowd outside of an actual dedicated Tesla or SpaceX fan event, he is always surprised at how unpopular he is among the general public. My favorite example of this is when Dave Chappelle brought Musk onstage at a live show last year and the reaction from Chappelle's own fans to Musk was so hostile that Chappelle had to stop the act briefly to scold them.

It's almost charming that Musk thinks "the Earth" would be so upset at Twitter's passing that the whole of humanity would demand accountability from companies who stopped advertising on it.

There are proper scholars who are thankful for X because they are no longer banned.
Anyone who feels unsafe near X should get an education, not an indoctrination.
It is perfectly easy to move on if you find material you object to, without personal risk. That is why we got an education, sadly that is old fashioned.

Tell that to the people who have been stalked, harassed and abused. Twitter was just starting to get a handle on abusive behaviour when Musk took over and threw open the doors.
