Luton Airport Car Park Fire

Sweet Jeebus, more conspiratorial drivel. A fire in a diesel car, a fairly common event, must be part of a cover-up of, well, what?

Your definition of 'lying' appears to be:

  • anyone expressing an opinion different from yours.
  • anyone who corrects any of your misconceptions.
  • anyone who appears to know better than yourself.
  • anyone who dares contradict you.

For someone who flings around the word 'lying' in as many breaths per minute of breathing, I am unclear what you mean when you demand to know if I am 'accusing the fire brigade of lying'.

<Fx American accent> You lie!!!

Your understanding of my usage of the word 'lying' appears to be on a par with your understanding of my first post in this thread.

I've accused you of lying in this thread when you have made statements which are clearly untrue, and you have access to the correct information yet persist in peddling a falsehood.

That the car in question was actually an EV or hybrid. But the government, police and fire services are all in the pocket of Big Battery, so they covered up the true nature of the car. Simples.

See here:

National World

A cynic might say the government doesn't want anything to interfere with this market.
As I understand it, electric cars will, in the long run, cost manufacturing jobs. If the government is interested in jobs, perhaps they should fear of electric vehicles.

"Big Battery" made me giggle. I'm picturing a bunch of flunkies known only by their letters, including the muscle-bound mini-boss "D", who all work for the sinister "Dry Cell". Presumably the final boss will be a villain known as "Elon Mask".

By writing the above, Vixen is the only one who is suggesting the word "lying" could mean something other than the definition she gave earlier, which is quoted below.

Lying means a deliberate attempt to deceive.
If we accept that definition, then it is remotely possible that Vixen is not lying. She might be fully aware that her continuing and deliberate apparent attempts to deceive are not actually deceiving anyone. If so, then her apparently deliberate attempts to deceive could be interpreted as deliberate attempts to create the appearance of attempting to deceive, which might not be exactly the same thing as deliberate attempts to deceive.

Having contributed that sophistric defense of Vixen's apparent lies, I confess I either (1) have no idea concerning why Vixen might deliberately attempt to convince us she is lying or (2) prefer not to speculate further.

Are you a cynic?

Is it your belief that the government has somehow coerced the police and fire service to say the fire started in a diesel Range Rover rather than an EV or hybrid?

Totally objective. There can be all sorts of reasons information isn't given out immediately without there needing to be 'coercion'.

A social milieu wherein people lie to each other about academic and social issues is alien to me. How bizarre. I don't consider police of fire chiefs to be liars. How odd to have the type of social circle or background where it would be considered normal to believe the police or other upright citizens are liars.

Be careful disparaging Big Battery, I hear they hold a lot of power.

I'll get my coat. :o

It's corroborating information, which accords with the statements, definitive now, from the police and fire service. They are not, now, saying 'at this stage'. Are you accusing the police and fire service of lying?

I believe the closest Vixen has come to answering this question was in the OP

Some seem to believe that police are playing down the EV angle because they do not want to ruin the EV-car market.

For example:

“I can remember car parks exploding and bursting into flames long before electric vehicles were invented…NOT #LutonAirport” https://x.com/Iromg/status/1712093115148882169?s=20

Regardless of whether Vixen is saying the police are lying, "some" people are. At first, I - and others - thought the way that the OP was worded Vixen was not endorsing that belief. I think it is now clear that she is.

What I'm missing is why the police would be trying to down play the "EV angle". Is the police pension fund heavily invested in Tesla? Is there a Lithium mine on the outskirts of Luton? Is Luton being considered for the next big Li battery factory? Are the police in Luton just climate activist Greta Thunberg fans?

I can't speak for GB, but in the US of A the vast majority of local police departments would not be beholden to the interests of the federal government on the climate issue.

Some people believe that earth is flat. Discuss.
Some people believe that NASA faked the moon landing. Discuss.
Some people believe that 9/11 was an inside job. Discuss.
Some people believe that Bill Gates put nanobots in what is supposed to be the Covid vaccine. Discuss.
Some people believe that Vixen is a troll, others believe she's just not very bright. Discuss.

The thing is, people bring conspiracy theories to this forum all the time, for the purpose of pointing and laughing at them.

And yet that is the logical consequence of what you are claiming.

Read the OP again. It's not a case of information not being given out immediately. It's about incorrect information being given (for which there is no evidence, of course).

You are claiming the police and fire service are lying about the car where the fire started. If they weren't coerced, then how were they induced to lie to the public?

Are you scurrilously accusing me of 'doing a Prince Philip'?

You mentioned the brand's Indian ownership and its reliability problems in the same sentence. Was it 'scurrilous' to wonder if you were suggesting those things are somehow related? What did you intend the reader to infer?

One wouldn't be surprised that the brand of the vehicle involved in the Luton fire might have a lot to do with tiptoeing around discreet sensitive business relationships, as it were.

What does this mean? The identity of the brand has never been in doubt. What business relationships are you talking about?

Ha ha. If it was a fuel leak or a coolant overheating issue why not just say? So a battery issue might be embarrassing for the manufacturers of an 'exploded' Land Rover who have now diversified into producing - ahem! - lithium batteries for cars.

You were previously hectoring us about the number of weeks of painstaking investigation a previous case required to establish the exact cause of a car fire. Now you can't understand why you can't immediately be told precisely how this diesel car caught fire. Pick a lane.

Why would one fire caused by some part of a conventional 12V lead acid battery electrical system be embarrassing for a company moving into the completely different field of high voltage lithium batteries?
