Luton Airport Car Park Fire

You just made that up. Why would you think they aren't built to any EU standards?

Lots of diesels have a turbo as standard. Even my old works vans had turbo diesels.

Once again you show your complete ignorance of the subject.

Ignore what I said, I was thinking of something else that is not relevant here.

In addition, Jaguar Land Rover is no longer British, it is Indian-owned and is also well-known for producing cars with a lot of problems.

Jaguar Land Rover cars had a poor reputation for faults long before the company was bought by an Indian company. I wonder what you thought the significance of its indian ownership is. Like some other car makers <cough>Alfa Romeo<cough> it's traded for years on the desirability of the brand, knowing its buyers will forgive the fact there may never be a time when everything works.

That is if the registration plate has been identified correctly. It is not identified by the Fire Brigade or the Police, just 'some guy on twitter'.
Notice in the first video, the flames are rising upwards underneath the bonnet (or, 'hood' as they say in the US). In the second, note the thick black smoke.

In any case, think about the intensity of the heat. Maximum IIRC circa 600 degrees centrigrade for diesel. Yet concrete only suffers superficial spalling at that temperature. Check out the video here of the Luton Airport Fire in which a car falls through a concrete floor/ceiling to the level below. Just that section, so not a 'structural collapse' but particular to that burning vehicle.

No, I am not "persisting with a conspiracy theory that the car was a EV or hybrid and it's been hushed up".

I am following the hard, cold, objective science. Not the politics, not the 'Full Facts PR', not the 'legal issues' and not the 'at this stage...subject to verification' issues.

You can obediently wait until the DAILY MAIL let's you know what to think. Us scientists can see for ourselves.

Or you can let the comments on the Daily Mail website tell you what to think:
Not at all. It has been headline news in the UK. It was the no.1 trending topic on X, after the Israel-Hamas issue. Over a quarter of a million views of the tweet I quoted.

You think current news topics should be repressed and that people should not speculate as to why a car burst into flames in that manner?

But almost every single comment in the DAILY MAIL article is claiming it must have been an EV.

So I am BAAAAAA-AAAAD for daring to start a topic to understand why this has aroused so much scepticism amongst the UK public.

It's corroborating information, which accords with the statements, definitive now, from the police and fire service. They are not, now, saying 'at this stage'. Are you accusing the police and fire service of lying?

Well, seeing as Vixen has now explicitly stated her viewpoint to be:

It is crazy to pretend that this was an innocuous diesel fire.

....I'd suggest that she is accusing the police and fire service of lying.

This pitiful thread has, from the very start, been a nothingburger of ignorant, ill-informed, stubborn conspiracy theories from one poster. I don't know why people keep swallowing the bait, frankly - it's a total waste of everyone's time.

Er, you get out of your car and make your way to the back, to switch on the reverse, brake, fog and number plate lights..? And when it starts raining you stop the car, exit it and set the operation for the back windscreen wipers..? Or do you have the kids sitting in the back seat to do all of this for you?

"Tarquin, would you mind switching on the brake lights as I am about to slow down - "

<sfx screeching of tyres CRASH!!!>

You might want to save the patronising attitude for the person who wrote-:

such as the fuel tank at the back of the vehicle, well away from the 12V electrics towards the front.

I'm asking Vixen if that is what she is doing, so we can be completely clear as to where she stands.

Are you scurrilously accusing me of 'doing a Prince Philip'? My reference was rather to the writer of the article that another poster cited, half of which seemed to be about the British lower classes forelock-tugging to the posh Land Rover-owning classes.

Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Tata Motors, an Indian automotive company and a subsidiary of Tata Group. Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Cars and Land Rover in 2008 from Ford Motor Company.

Tata Motors was founded in 1945, and is one of the leading automobile manufacturers in India, with a global presence with operations in various countries. It produces a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, and military vehicles.

One wouldn't be surprised that the brand of the vehicle involved in the Luton fire might have a lot to do with tiptoeing around discreet sensitive business relationships, as it were.

Which 'discreet sensitive business relationships' are causing the police and fire service to lie, in your opinion?

Ha ha. If it was a fuel leak or a coolant overheating issue why not just say? So a battery issue might be embarrassing for the manufacturers of an 'exploded' Land Rover who have now diversified into producing - ahem! - lithium batteries for cars.

So they aren't powered by electricity on your car?
Some cars even have their battery in the back. All the Jags I have had put the battery in the boot.

Yep. My Z3 has the battery in the boot too.

I suggest you read the OP of this thread, and remind yourself what it's about. And weren't you the one saying it was much too early to know the exact cause of the fire (as opposed to which vehicle it started in) at this stage?

You really don't have a clue, do you? First, the lead-acid battery in a diesel car is completely different technology from lithium-ion batteries; second, do Land Rover actually make lithium batteries for cars, or do they simply fit them to the cars they do make?

Your definition of 'lying' appears to be:

  • anyone expressing an opinion different from yours.
  • anyone who corrects any of your misconceptions.
  • anyone who appears to know better than yourself.
  • anyone who dares contradict you.

For someone who flings around the word 'lying' in as many breaths per minute of breathing, I am unclear what you mean when you demand to know if I am 'accusing the fire brigade of lying'.

<Fx American accent> You lie!!!

Er, you do know it is Tata who have just received a £4bn contact to build a giga car battery site? These would be the q-lithium type although I daresay there will be an assortment. Tata also own Jaguar Land Rover. Are you seeing the connection now?

See here:

The government estimates that the construction of a £4 billion battery factory in the UK by Jaguar Land Rover's owner will result in the creation of about 4,000 jobs.

A cynic might say the government doesn't want anything to interfere with this market.

Are you a cynic?

Is it your belief that the government has somehow coerced the police and fire service to say the fire started in a diesel Range Rover rather than an EV or hybrid?
