Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (2)

What is the case being made?

It sort of seems like the case being made is that the "real" issue is an epidemic of people with higher concentrations of melanin shooting people with lower concentrations of melanin, and that insignificant events like the slaughter of concert goers, school children, church members, parade attendees, movie theater patrons, mall shoppers, business employees... as well as any similar events in which the perpetrator had racist motivations, but was shooting people with higher concentrations of melanin, are being used by the crafty media to obfuscate said "real" issue. But it's hard to tell because Bog seems reluctant to go any further than implying as much.

I'm pretty sure that you are aware that this is a massive misinterpretation of what Bogative is laying out. I'm pretty clear that he is making a case that POC in the US are killing people, en masse, at a rate far in excess of the occasional, and unfortunate, spree killing or whatever the current nomenclature for such events is. He is pointing out that these shootings are not given the same level of scrutiny in the media as that given to white shooters, despite their regular, daily occurrence.

Your use of scare quotes and such words as "crafty" and "insignificant" seem to me to be scornful and more of an attempt to shut down the conversation. I accept that I might be misunderstanding your drift.

I'm sorry WHAT was the name of the town the guy got arrested in? No seriously Texas, what's the real town name?

The Texas shooter has been caught.

Suspected gunman caught in Texas four days after 5 killed

Authorities near Houston say they have caught a man suspected of killing five of his neighbours, including an 8-year-old boy, with an AR-style rifle after the family confronted him late at night about firing rounds in his yard.

Francisco Oropeza, 38, was arrested on Tuesday, four days after the shooting late on Friday in the town of Cleveland, about 72 kilometres north of Houston, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson.

Mr Oropeza was arrested without incident, Mr Henderson said. The sheriff would not say whether Mr Oropeza was armed or how authorities figured out where he was.

ETA: I see this has already been mentioned.

A country full of people scared to death that their neighbors might shoot them does not qualify as a society of any sort by any meaningful definition of the word
A quick little blink and you'd miss it line from Babylon 5 where the captain is having a surreptitious conversation with his father back on Earth-falling-into-tyranny. The father describes that "on the surface its peaceful."

The captain responds "yeah, the peace of the gun."

Such a natural turn of phrase, and so instantly conveys the absurdity of compelled acquiescence I thought it must be an established term of art in geopolitical-espionag-y circles.

But yeah. That doesn't sound ideal to me. At least not being the type to automatically assume I will be top dog in that world by natural right and others will, of course, recognize such or face the consequences.

Woman IDs 4 of 7 Oklahoma bodies as daughter, grandchildren

CTV News said:
As law enforcement officials went silent Tuesday while piecing together what led to the killing of seven people in rural Oklahoma, family members of those slain recalled the controlling nature of one of the dead, who was a registered sex offender.

Since the bodies were found early Monday, authorities have released scant information on who was killed, how they died and who killed them. But two relatives said all the victims were shot to death.

Just another day in the good ol' USA.

In a rare non US example, in Serbia a 13 year old boy walked into his school and then started executing a teacher, a security guard and then classmates with his dad's guns.

The Serbian president in a response has indicated that part of the response will be tightening access to guns and more control.

That's how other countries have consistently reacted to gun violence.

It's almost surreal how restricted access to guns results in fewer shootings. There must be a causation there we've all missed.

Succinct and so true.

The next day they had put a moratorium on new gun licenses and said they would be instigating checks on all current licences. However they seem to have missed the crucial solution as used in the USA to great effect, no mention of thoughts and prayers! How they think restricting further will do anything is a puzzle.
