OK, today is a news-off day. I usually have it on almost all the time, mostly as background noise, as all we get are a couple headlines and endless talk, talk, talk after that, at least on the station I watch. But the latest mall shooting is just too much to handle right now. I need a break. And not BREAKING NEWS.

Man who witnessed Allen outlet mall shooting describes carnage: 'It's just unfathomable'

ALLEN (CBSNewsTexas.com) — Shortly after a gunman opened fire at the Allen Premium Outlets Saturday afternoon, Steven Spainhouer jumped into action.

Spainhouer rushed desperately to aid those wounded and dying after shots rang out a little after 3:30 p.m. May 6.

He said the victims had such horrific injuries that they had to be loaded into police cars because ambulances would not have gotten them to nearby trauma facilities fast enough.

When asked if he thought he saved any lives, Spainhouer said he's not sure, but knows he lost three people.

He said he raced to the shopping center when his son called to say there had been shots fired outside H&M—the store where he worked.

Spainhouer said he got there before any first responders and while a handful of people around him recorded videos of the bodies on the ground, he tried to save lives.

"I never imagined in 100 years I would be thrust into the position of being the first first responder on the site to take care of people," he shared. "The first girl I walked up to was crouched down covering her head in the bushes, so I felt for a pulse, pulled her head to the side and she had no face."

Spainhouer said he also found a child, who survived while covered by his protective mother who had been killed.

"When I rolled the mother over, he came out. I asked him if he was OK and he said, 'My mom is hurt, my mom is hurt.' So rather than traumatize him, I pulled him around the corner sat him down and he was covered from head to toe...like somebody poured blood on him."

He's there trying to save lives while idiots stand around recording with their phones. What the hell is wrong with these people?

It's getting to the point where THEY just start the discussion at defending thoughts and prayers instead of any actual... ya know action or failing that even real human sympathy or concern.

But it's not even that. Someone mentioned this and now I can't unhear/unsee it.

They talk about shootings like they are natural disasters. Like they are bolt of lightning out of the blue, like a tornado touched down or a sink hole opened. They talk about it as if stopping is like trying to stop the monster in a Kaiju movie.

I might have to add "defeatism" to "Gleefully Evil" and "Proudly Stupid" to the core problems with being a Republican these days.

The end paragraph of the now beyond on point parody article The Onion first used in 2014 was "At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as ‘helpless.’”
ETA: I think the figure is now rather higher than 2 per month.

Or do as Mother Jones has done for years and exclude "gang violence" and shootings up in the club and at house parties and the numbers go way way down.

Indeed, gang violence is a whole different animal, probably shouldn't count them as mass-shootings.
