Not just the sun but at comets too..
So, as usual you think that everything that may sound similar is the same.

Hope you picked that up tusenfem, flux tubes are full of magnetic flux unless of course they are empty flux that contain no magnetic flux.
But they do contain PLASMA. Not quasi neutral either.
So not just empty and full, tusenfem?

Let’s see what the expert says in relation too these and switchbacks...
Please explain to me why you think switchback have anything to do with nested draping at a comet.
What if you just tried to understand my answers in the context of the paper that you are getting them.
This is simple flux tube interchange instability (here another term that you do not understand to add to your vocabulary).
Depending on the situation the filled (heavier) flux tubes will exchange location with empty (less heavy) flux tubes.
This is a well known process in planetary magnetospheres.
wikiThe interchange instability is a key issue in the field of fusion energy, where magnetic fields are used to confine a plasma in a volume surrounded by the field.

No, you are wrong.
This is a plasma instability, a current driven plasma instability. Why didn’t you just say so, tusenfem?
Big problem, apparently, for the mainstream...

Safire solved the problem of plasma confineent awhile back. The ELECTRIC SUN.
Seems this plasma instability also suffers the Bennet pinch.
This can happen in any driven plasma, afaik.
Where’s the big battery, one wonders...![]()
This has absolutely nothing to do with currents, it is basically interchange of "full" and "empty" tubes.
Oh just read the friggin paper, man, the word "current" appears a total of 0 (ZERO) times in it.
But I am sure you are much more knowledgeble than the original authors (of whom I know three personally).
Well, in a planetary magnetosphere the interchange instability its flux tubes moving in and out. Wiki is not the holy grail.
Which of couse has NOTHING to do with the transport of magnetic flux in the Kronian magnetosphere.

The well known Parker spiral [Parker, 1958] of the IMF is only obtained after averaging over relatively long time periods [see e.g. Ness and Wilcox, 1964; Borovsky, 2010], and even in a perfect spiral there will be sectors where x and x ,i.e.pointing Sunward or anti-sunward.
Simple answer that tusenfem, the expert here, loves to waltz around.

Jesus frigging Christ, you are like a bad George Dubya Bush, you hope by repeating your claim again and again and again that we will believe you.
Dubya managed it with his Irak after 9/11, weirdly enough.
Unfortunately for you, space plasma physics has an enourmous amount of data, which you choose to ignore, and is analysing this data (and no thet is not MHD) and finds out stuff, which you then squeeze and melt and mold to some weird EU interpretation (well basically just cherry pick and quote mine, without understanding the words that you are copypasting).
I am not walzing around, even though it is ball season here in Austria. It is you who is sidestepping in every direction as soon as you find out that the stuff you claim is wrong, then you just surf the web and find some intersting term, which has noting to do with the topic, and disrupt the discussion.
Of course, I know that you get off on it, when we get irritated with all the ridiulous BS you are posting.
Let’s have a look a the ELECTRON density in these “switchbacks” (Birkeland currents), shall we...![]()
Nested electric currents.
Why? You'll only tell him he's a mainstream lackey, and that your degree in wooistry from the Uri Geller Institute of Spoon Bending, means that you understand plasma physics better than plasma physicists!
