And I don't thiun Biden..or any president, should get a free pass the way some people here think.
I know that makes me a doubleplus ungood crimethinker, but I am used to that.

Interesting news day. On the plus side, Biden did his job as far as I'm concerned. He beat Trump. I don't want Biden running again so maybe this is good...no it's a bad thing still.

We here at this forum see what's going on, we actively search for details as they come and we give a damn. Most people do not and are at the mercy of whatever news outlet they prefer.

Some people here don't think giving more ammo to the right hurts Democrats. Remember, some people are, amazingly and disturbingly, still undecided when they vote these days.

Undecideds are an important demographic to target, yes?

How about all the Republicans who were somehow persuaded to vote Democrat last time? Will they stick around?

Walker barely lost and so did Lake. If this stuff was in the news back when it was first discovered could that have made a difference in those two elections? I'd say it's a big possibility.

Optics matter. This will hurt the Democrats. How could it not?

Answer given here: "Republican voters already hear so many lies what's the difference?" Wrong.

I'm sure that classified documents are misplaced quite often. I know from my military experience that it happens. The proper thing to do is to report it to the proper authorities and return it. Depending on what classification it is, they will do an assessment and determine further actions. It should be noted that not all classified documents have information that is damaging should it be made public. The government often over classifies documents.
I believe many prior office holders in government have found misplaced classified documents and did the proper thing. Most are not punished. Most are warned to be more careful.

It could also be that someone with access planted the documents maybe someone with the secret Service still loyal too Trump.

You really think they are going to investigate and convict the former and the current POTUS at the same time for the same crime?
While they are both running for the next election?

That movie is not going to happen.

No ******* way.

No, I don't think they are going to convict the former and the current POTUS at the same time for the same crime. Primarily because, at this point, there's no reason to think that they've committed the same crime, if Biden committed a crime at all.

Who is arguing that Biden should get a free pass?

Before an investigation is even completed, Biden already looks exponentially better than Trump and is in significantly less legal jeopardy.

But somehow, it's Democrats who need to be worried about optics.

The yawning chasm between the expectations for Republican behavior and Democrat behavior is why we're living in the most ridiculous timeline.

Just curious, have you noticed that despite Garland's actions the GOP is still screaming that the Trump investigation is politically motivated? It's almost like they would scream that anyway...just like they did for every other investigation into Trump's illegal or improper activities.

Yes, I did notice, but why give them any proof.
SOrry, I don't see why his invesiting this is so damn terrible...
The optics if he did'nt would be bad.

Pease explain again why this is so terrible.

Maybe, but I am adopting Occam's Razor for this. It was something that was mistakenly packed with other documents and forgotten about. They then reported it and returned it using the proper channels.

Problem with ideological blinders is you can't see things the way somebody who does not share your ideology sees them.

And if Garland did not do this, the GOP would have a field day saying the Trump investigatin was politically motivated.
But keep on those political blinders.
Doesn't matter. When are people going to recognize that?

Assign a Special Council: GOP goes nuts claiming Trump's crime was no worse.

Don't assign a Special Council: GOP goes nuts claiming Trump's crime was no worse.

And let's not forget that whatever the Special Council finds: GOP goes nuts claiming Trump's crime was no worse.

It's only a free pass if you don't understand the difference between Trump's hoarding classified documents and Biden's staff finding some during housekeeping and immediately returned them.

This *********** by team Biden is not so much about the legality.
But the looks!
Does anyone think investigations into both POTUS for basically the 'same' behaviour/action is going to lead into a conviction of just Trump, but not Biden?

No way!

I could really imagine that this would actually lead into civil war. So they won't risk that and as such, both will get a pass. So basically Biden saved Trump from this one.

Congrats!

Yep I am pointing out right now to people if Biden knew he had them why didn't he just burn then, top, secret documents aren't fire proof.

BTW, except the Spec Council is bound to waste a million or two on this investigation, I don't care. It makes sense for Garland to do this to appear fair.

But again, why so fast here and so slow with Trump?

The other thing is will this delay any announcement of a Trump indictment? I hope not.

OFFS Joe, they found the latest set of documents in your damn garage

AND? How does this show Biden did anything wrong himself or was even aware of it? When his things were moved from his WH office and/or his Naval Observatory residence in 2017, packing was handled by the transition team, not by Biden himself. If things got improperly transferred, unless you can show Biden ordered them taken to the Penn Biden office or his home, then it was not his screw-up.

We don't even know if Trump was aware of the boxes going to Mar a Lago containing the classified documents at first. What we DO know is that Biden and his team have fully cooperated with the National Archives and the investigation whereas Trump and his team did not...repeatedly.

I am not saying they are the same at alll I am saying that the optics would be bad if you investigated one and not the other.
And yes, optics are important.
I am sure the investigation into the Bidfen papers will show what you say; but that is exactly why it should be done.

THIS.
The main reason I think the investigation into the BIden misplacment is important is to clear this up, and not let the GOP use it as a hammer.
And it's not like this is going to impede the Trump Investigaion any.
I don't get the outrage over this some here are showing.
And yes, optics are important. Anybody who does not see that (no joke intended) is a fool.

This is pure speculation and that is a kind word, I feel tempted to use a stronger word.
ANd yes, I think it is possible for BIden to get a clean bill of health and Trump to be indicted.

Oh FFS! That is one of the most ridiculous things ever said. The VP's 'work' is NOT keeping track of documents brought to him once he'd done with them. That is specifically the WORK of designated aides with the proper clearance. Or do you expect VP's to jump in their car and run the documents back to the archives or to wherever they're being kept at the time? They don't personally check them out.

This thread has changed from being a tired thread about a tired old man to comedy gold.

I'm picking the Dumbocrats are continuing to sit on their thumbs instead of urgently finding a credible candidate for 2024, which by my reckoning, is next year.

Tic, tick, tick...
