Nope, it's nothing like that.
No one is saying it's okay to be racist or okay to compare everyday people to Nazis.
I would go so far as to say folks like EaglePuncher and Gina Carano shouldn't be fired for the latter offense, though.
The Wrong have up and decided that a constant state of "No I don't want to talk about that, I want to talk about this!" is their best tactic.
To the extent that this isn't just a ploy by right wing trolls, I wonder if it's just "civility cargo cult".
I mean, it would be nice if accusing people of spouting fascist propaganda was not a reasonable thing to say about the public discourse, but that's not where we are. Plenty of "everyday" people these days are quite clearly aligning themselves with neo-fascist ideology.
I could see how someone not thinking too carefully might end up making "Godwin" complaints when someone spouting off fascist propaganda is rightly compared to a nazi.
I’ll try one more time.
You have in this discussion used the same type of redacted-quoted-word stuff in talking about this issue as the professor used talking about another issue on the test. If that sort of thing is not evidence that you are insensitive then how can it be evidence that he is insensitive?
It’s pretty funny that you are being so snarky with me when I basically agree with you at least 90%. That last ten percent is catching me a lot of flak!
Sigh, I DID NOT "use the same type of redacted-quoted-word stuff in talking about this issue as the professor . I typed the words in full and let the AUTO CENSOR OF ISF take care of it.
Perhaps I am using the wrong language, and should be arguing by meme. Ahem.
Okay. But that’s worse. You… you do get how that’s worse, right?
Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russian foreign intelligence: "The masks are off. The West isn't simply trying to close off Russia behind a new iron curtain. This is about an attempt to ruin our government - to 'cancel' it, as they now say in "tolerant" liberal-fascist circles."
You could make an actual point, that would be a start..
Nah, that’s ok, I already said my bit about the Kilborn situation and tried to engage with your responses in good faith. You are the first person I’ve run into here that actually does seem to feel that if someone evaluates a whole thread full of complaints of racist behaviour and in one single case isn’t convinced by the evidence available so far, they should be spoken to as though they were a veritable bag of dicks.
Stewart later questioned why Fox founder Rupert Murdoch was “trying to destroy the fabric of this country.”
“I don’t know if it’s ideological or he just thinks, this is where the money is,” Stewart said. “But how somebody can in good conscience put a ******** like that on television every night to say those types of things? That’s where the responsibility lies in my mind.”
There first African-American to graduate from the University of Illinois did so in 1900. I am not sure about the University of Illinois at Chicago, specifically; the Google-Fu is not strong in me. Ithink that your timeline is a bit off, but I am not sure how important that is. To the best of my ability to gauge, no one in this thread is defending not allowing African-Americans access to education, whenever and wherever it took place. I previously asked you to explain its relevance to this topic.Black people couldn't even go to those school 50 years ago and the Right didn't call that "Cancel Culture" and have a big showy handwringing session where they pretended to worry about freedom of speech.
So, and I cannot stress this enough, I don't believe them when they lie about how worried about it they are now.
"Oh that's not the right question" is a very bad way of going "I'm wrong but I either don't want it to matter or don't want to admit it."

The mix-up happened during a lecture. I consider a lecture to be akin to a performance, and there are yet more moving parts when one has to record lectures for students that are quarantining, for example. I can speak from personal experience that if one little thing goes wrong, I go blank, get flustered, and have a hard time getting back into the flow.Yeah that and the I-just-innocently-can’t-figure-out-your-name thing is pretty insufferable in a teacher. Great illustration in Addams Family Values with the camp counselors who just can’t figure out how to say Jamal, complete with cringy faces and apologetic shrugs.

It sounds like Jon Stewart, who we remember was a staunch defender of Joe Rogan when he spewed and platformed Covid contrarians every day, is upset with Fox News, and Rupert Murdoch in particular, for allowing Tucker Carlson to... well... let's hear it...
Ah! Responsibility and where it lies! Thanks for that clarification Jon. I think others pointed that out to you.

Each week, I seek out the office hours of a philosophy department professor willing to discuss with me complex ethical questions raised by her course on gender and sexuality. We keep our voices lowered, as if someone might overhear us.
Hushed voices and anxious looks dictate so many conversations on campus at the University of Virginia, where I’m finishing up my senior year.
A friend lowers her voice to lament the ostracization of a student who said something well-meaning but mildly offensive during a student club’s diversity training. Another friend shuts his bedroom door when I mention a lecture defending Thomas Jefferson from contemporary criticism. His roommate might hear us, he explains.
An opinion piece in the New York Times (of all places.) on the culture of fear that exists in US Universities.
