Putin knows he can't win this. It's now just a matter of how many civilians he wants to murder before it's all over.

I wouldn't be so sure. As has been poked at, Putin's likely not in an especially sane and well informed by reality state.

I still think at least some of these Russian losses must be Russian commanders changing their unit's paper strength to more closely match their unit's real strength, without getting in trouble for misreporting their paper strength for the past several years.

I've poked at that before, but it's also worth noting that that should only affect Russian counts, which are already notoriously untrustworthy, not counts by the Ukrainians so much... provided that the Ukrainians aren't guided by false reports by Russian commanders over civilian channels.

I hate to rain on the parade, but RUssia is going to take the big cities though sheer numbers, no mattr how inept they are..and they are inept.
Bu that will just be the beginning. Insurgency which will make Afghanistan look mild in comparsion to follow.
Someone said Putin should get the Donbas. I could not disagree more. He cannot be allowed to get anything. That would just encourage future aggressions.
Frankly, I don't see this crisis ending until Putin withdraws completly or Putin is gone. Get ser for the long haul.
And I think it has dawned upon the West this is an extisntial moment for them. Putin will not stop. His goals arenot just to restore the old Soviet union but to destroy Democracy anywhere. He sees the mere existence of democracy anywhere as a threat.

Alternately, there remains the possibility that she actually is being paid and her services were redirected. Last I heard, anti-vax propaganda, among other Russian disinformation pushs, has dropped immensely since the Ukraine invasion began and those accounts have been pumping out pro-Russia/anti-Ukraine disinformation like crazy. This forum is likely to be a rather low priority target, regardless.

I don't think Putin will ever stop pumping more resources in to Ukraine. The war won't stop until he's removed from power.

They are shifting more aircraft over to Ukraine. Troops stationed in the far east are being shipped west for "exercises". Belarus has sent troops into Ukraine even as Mussolini claims he's not entering the war. Putin is just adding more and more resources into this, doubling down again and again.

I don't know what will happen, but I think this could drag on - for years. He might try to split Ukraine up into manageable sections. If he can get rid of Zelenski he might be able to get a Ukrainian government that will negotiate - but any negotiated end to the war that is anywhere close to what Putin wants would be rejected by Ukrainian citizens who would just overthrow that government and pick up where they left off. He might try to cleave off a larger hunk of Eastern Ukraine, but that leaves the rest of the country furious and allied with NATO and motivated to run an insurgency in the occupied area - so I don't think Putin will for that.

Ukraine is putting up a vastly better fight that anyone expected. But I'm sadly convinced that this will get worse, much worse, before it gets better.

Putin can't back out now. He can't win, but he can't stop trying. He's in this for life.


ETA: At this point, I think it won't be more than a week before Syrian and Hezbollah and maybe even Hamas fighters start appearing in Ukraine. If the Russian soldiers are too culturally aligned with Ukrainians to kill Ukrainians, Putin will find others who are not so squeamish.

Google has removed the Russian state media outlet RT from its news search tool.

A poor idea. Such censorship only increases the credibility of RT in the eyes of some.

Instead, RT should be subject to the scrutiny of all so that the extent of their lies can be known.
