How is it a problem?

Are you seriously claiming Svensson got the equivalent of the Victoria Cross for falling into the water?

The Swedish Armed Forces Medal of Merit is not a combat medal.
It is more like the George Cross than the Victoria Cross.
It is awarded in peacetime to "personnel who performed extraordinary effort that benefited the Swedish Armed Forces, for example, with resourcefulness and energetically action and with an example of excellent leadership and personal commitment."

Ask yourself: "How come Svensson got a Gold Medal of Merit with Sword?"

"How come his fellow rescue men did not get a Medal of Merit from Swedish Armed Forces?"

What exactly are you disputing?

If it was a reward for keeping quite about a secret mission, why weren't the rest of the crew given it?

If it wasn't for keeping quiet about a secret mission what is the controversy?

If your textbook is the one you linked to recently, Sea of Death: The Baltic, 1945 by Claes-Göran Wetterholm, then you are mistaken.

Perhaps you are mis-remembering this passage (in which case an apology would be welcomed by all):

(Any typos in that passage are mine.)

What exactly does, "transport ships for the wounded were painted grey and fitted with anti-aircraft artillery." mean?

Seriously? The navy and the Rockwater divers didn't bother trying to identify the senior crew 'because the quality of pictures'.

No, that's not what I said. you are the one that brought the cameras in to it.

I asked how the divers were supposed to do it when they don't know what the crew looked like and the conditions were not good.

From Reformed Offlian's own link:

Well, of course, the wikipedia contributor who added that footnote might believe the above is the reason Svensson got the medal in light of any absence of any other explanation.

How likely do you think it is, bearing in mind the Finnish helicopter crews didn't work from 'winch only', they had a two man crew who went down on winches and one who actually dived into the water to swim to the stricken survivor.

No, the helicopter rescue men just work from winches. They do not dive in to the water. One man goes down on the line and one operates the winch.

The East Europe time zones coordinates are:

22°30' E – 37°30' E

The Estonia wreck East coordinates are:

21°41′E

It falls into EET because time zones are based on the nearest geographical country, even though the Estonia lies technically to the west of the eastern Europe time zone.

The times are in Estonian time because the report was published by the government of Estonia.

It says so right there on the front of the report what the times are in the report.

What exactly does, "transport ships for the wounded were painted grey and fitted with anti-aircraft artillery." mean?

WTF do you think it means?

Have a read through the book, for context.

You claimed the book says that grey was the usual colour for hospital ships. It does not say that, does it?

I stand by my claim Gustloff counted as a civilian ship when it was sunk.

It had soldiers aboard so it was a military transport.

Even if it was a civilian ship it belonged to a belligerent nation and was therefore a legitimate target.

He got the medal. They did not.

You explain it to me.
They didn't get left in the sea when their winch failed then get recovered by another helicopter then step in to take over from the other helicopter's rescue man after he got injured and make multiple further rescues until they themselves were injured and could not carry on. What part did you forget?

Your naivete is touching.

Attorney Henning Witte explains it thus:

B804 is a Huddinge Hospital ambulance.

Anyone who has seen someone they know on television will understand how you instantly recognise someone.

I was once in a tv audience. I had no idea I had been clipped until people started telling me they had seen me on that show - for literally just a few seconds.

Likewise, there was one occasion I was idly watching the news when a news item about the British Medical Association came up. I was amused to spot a group of my work colleagues standing outside in the street, caught by the cameraman having a cigarette and a chat. Next morning, it seemed my boss had also caught the split second glimpse and was hopping mad, as they were paid by time and he had no idea they were having these cigarette/gossip break.

What does that have to do with recordings of a story being removed from a German news channel by seccret police?

Only the German police could have done this which means the German government ordered it and are part of the conspiracy.

Just a reminder of what I said. I said wikipedia was not my source of information on the Gustloff in response to posters claiming it was only right it was sunk as it was listed as a war ship on wikipedia.

Who said that?

What does Wikipedia have to do with it?
