Where Is Ron DeathSantis?

Supporting a loved one with cancer is something I won't fault anyone for, but I work at a Cancer treatment center and... well the timeline does just add up.

I don't want to berate someone for being by their spouse's side during cancer treatments, but he had time to stop by the money changers party. If his office had just said he is taking time to be with his wife for her treatments, this would not be a story.

That video shows people crowded cheek by jowl indoors for over three hours, most without masks. No wonder their numbers are soaring.

Yeah, the Mick Hucknall guy was saying “hug someone in the audeience” and Ron blathered on about freedom as he brought his wife who is, so we hear, battling cancer to the event.

As mentioned, if the cover story is true you cannot blame him for taking time off but that leads to even more questions of judgment!

I was going to say that bringing a cancer sufferer undergoing treatment that will inevitably include major immune system suppression to an event almost perfectly designed to be a COVID-friendly super-spreading petri dish is...not what a loving, caring, Jesus-worshipping sort of husband should really be doing. To all intents and purposes, he is trying to kill her. That is NOT sane behaviour. Why couldn't he have taken Trump along instead?

That tells me more about him than almost anything else. What a moron. I bet his wife's oncologist wasn't too happy about that.

Just look for Trump's butt and one is sure to find the face of Desantis within an inch or two of It.

I don't want to berate someone for being by their spouse's side during cancer treatments either but DeSantis is the governor of a state that is currently being hammered by Covid-19. The governor who has been criticized for taking a cavalier attitude towards the pandemic.

I expect a governor in that situation -- not just a Democratic governor but even what has come to be termed a 'RINO' governor -- to address the public upfront. To tell us ahead of time he's going to be 'stepping aside' for a few weeks. That the lt. governor will take over. Explain why. Level with us.

Not to handle this the way DeSantis has. He does what he wants and cares less what the 'people' think. Increasingly these characters -- trump, DeSantis, Boebert, Hawley, Johnson, Greene -- remind me of the second-rate dictators and their loyal band of brainless flunkies that I saw in eastern Europe, South America, various third world nations.

I hope the United States pulls out of this. Because if we don't, we're headed for major trouble.

Not me
I'm not some poor little baby that needs mommy governor to tell me they are going out

Hard to believe the cases are being accurately recorded.

They aren't. Florida specifically excludes non-resident data. There are a lot of "snow birds" in Florida right now that are not being included in the stats.

This is why the whole thing smells fishy. His disappearance was rather sudden, and not once in two weeks could he just issue a statement or make a short appearance? His behavior fits being down with Covid much better than it fits the official explanation.

If he isn't gonna die of Covid then I hope he gets eaten by a gator.

The deaths certainly aren't.

It’s certainly odd that while Florida’s daily cases skyrocket, they often report (belatedly) single digit deaths, often only one.

Does not compute.

Last Spring Florida changed the way they report deaths to collating covid death certificates. The result is that deaths are delayed weeks but all are eventually reported. There are many states that also do this and it's in accord with CDC policy which permits multiple ways of recording deaths. But the unfortunate result is that daily deaths are always lower than reality on many sites including WorldOmeters.

This site collects deaths more consistently with the earlier mechanism.

That was my point. There was a right way to do it. If he had just come out and said something like, "I'll be with my wife for this round of treatment but I will maintain contact with my office. There are systems in place and I have full faith in (insert relevant officials here) to execute our plan and keep me informed.", this is a none issue. But that would also mean that Republicans have any interest in governing, which does not seem to be the case.

As I understand it, the snowbirds were actually driving up the vaccination rates. My mom has a place in a senior community near Tampa and they do not #$%^ around. There didn't even need to be given an official policy. All the residents just told their families to stay the hell away and made grocery delivery arrangements together.

Most older folks our parents' age have seen the effects of polio and smallpox and other dreadful diseases. They know this is not a **** around and find out situation with COVID. They know how to take this seriously.
