The CBO agrees, the Biden pre-k plan leaves huge swaths of the population behind due to its foolish design:

As with Medicaid, if the red states refuse to adopt a plan that the federal government makes available and pays for, I don't know the White House is supposed to do. Education is primarily a state and local responsibility; I can't imagine tens of thousands of official U.S. government pre-Ks across the country.

The states aren't running pre-ks either, it's a subsidy program. There's no reason why the feds couldn't handle the bureaucracy and cut red state government totally out of the loop.

They could stop designing new programs this way.

There's no reason why a social program need be designed such that they rely on states running them. Republicans have made it clear that red states will, in most cases, refuse to do their part. There's really no excuse for this anymore.

So some great revelations made by Right Wing pundits about Kamala Harris: It seems she does not use use Bluetooth earphones at home or at work. Words like "phobic" and "paranoid" were tossed around twitter along with rather silly articles like this: https://www.politico.com/newsletter...2/06/kamala-harris-is-bluetooth-phobic-495343, the same article tries to make it seem like not letting a person alone in the VP's office is problematic.

There was some backlash to this: Most of the tech magazines pointed out that yes, Bluetooth can be insecure and secure Federal buildings do not allow their use. Harris is just following some decent security protocols. The whole thing was patently absurd, trying to attack the VP for sensible precautions. But the right wing media thinks it has another chew-toy.

I am proudly among the contingent who never stopped using wired headphones. As an audiophile, I'm one of those weirdos with the big reference/DJ headphones.

Do you also have a pair with a 10ft (3m) long cord? Bonus points if it's a coiled cord! :D

With my bluetooth headphones, I can go in and take a leak while listening to an Aron Ra video rebuttal of creationism on youtube on my laptop.

Oh, and I can listen to music on my watch while I am running.

Biden signs executive order on climate change to require net-zero emissions from federal government by 2050

President Biden issued an executive order Wednesday afternoon that would reduce the federal government’s greenhouse gas emissions within the next decade and reach net-zero federal emissions by 2050. The term “net zero” means that any pollution contributing to climate change would be offset with equal measures to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, such as planting trees.

“The Federal Government faces broad exposure to the mounting risks and costs already posed by the climate crisis,” Biden states in the order. “As the single largest land owner, energy consumer, and employer in the Nation, the Federal Government can catalyze private sector investment and expand the economy and American industry by transforming how we build, buy, and manage electricity, vehicles, buildings, and other operations to be clean and sustainable.”

The biggest components of the executive order are setting standards for reducing emissions in three key areas: electricity generation, buildings and transportation.

Under the order, the government would use 100 percent net-zero electricity by 2030, including 50 percent produced from fully carbon-free sources such as wind and solar. Federal buildings would have to reduce their emissions by half by 2032 and reach net-zero by 2045.

It's something. If we end up with a Republican President, though, it'll very likely be rescinded.

Migrant laborers were allegedly forced to dig onions with their bare hands for pennies per bucket as supervisors threatened them with a gun.

May the Biden Administration bring the exploiters to justice swiftly - along with any other such exploiters.

Bluetooth isn't very secure, I know from experience. I was driving with bluetooth connected to my speakers in the city and there was a service interruption of the program I was listening to. My partner and I were then listening to a random conversation over the speakers and we had no idea what it was until the lady said "Alexa what's the weather?" The signal faded away as we drove off. This was around the time that Amazon was announcing that this kind of thing never happens.

Biden is really knocking it out of the park.

President Joe Biden’s overall approval rating stabilized at a low level of 41%, according to the CNBC All-America Survey.

Biden’s approval rating on handling the economy and dealing with the coronavirus both declined.

At 46% approval to 48% disapproval, Biden’s approval rating on the coronavirus is now underwater for the first time.

His economic approval sank more deeply underwater, with 37% approving compared to 56% who disapprove

Republicans now sport a historic 10-point advantage when Americans are asked which party they prefer to control Congress, holding a 44%-34% margin over Democrats. That’s up from a 2-point Republican advantage in the October survey.

In the past 20 years, CNBC and NBC surveys have never registered a double-digit Republican advantage on congressional preference, with the largest lead ever being 4 pints for the GOP.

I hate to see Dems so sad. At least this disapproval is a bipartisan effort. :)

The Republican strategy of destroying the country and then leaving the mess for Democrats to clean up and take the blame for is a pretty good one. This will be the second time in 12 years that they've pulled it off.

Imagine if she had used Bluetooth and someone found it about that in the building rules. It would be the next email scandal.

They are definitely going for a "heads I win, tails you lose" logic.

There's been an announcement recently that Biden's media coverage has been about as negative as Trump's. (Supposedly they used "AI" to find this out, but didn't say why that matters, why they switched to that as opposed to previous methods, or even what they meant by such an overused term, but I digress.)

One catch with that is that they seem to have weighed accurate reporting of bad polls as "negative coverage", which it isn't. Calling it that is Hillary-level excusism.

But other than that, the dominant overall pattern in their own line graph is that the coverage of Biden was not so negative in general, but just overwhelmingly hostile on one specific point: withdrawing from Afghanistan & underming the precious precious defense contractor profits. (Sure, they tried pretending at first that it was about people supposedly getting "left behind", but they dropped that after a few days of being asked for evidence of it & started just vaguely calling it bad in general without even coming up with a new excuse to replace the dropped one.)

Here is accurate reporting:-
How popular is Joe Biden

And here is negative coverage:-
No letup in Biden polling doldrums
President Biden's standing with Americans remains in negative territory heading into the final few weeks of 2021...

...a large survey from The Wall Street Journal conducted last month that had the president well underwater...

Biden’s approval rating hovered in the low to mid 50s during his first six months in the White House. But the president’s numbers started sagging in August in the wake of Biden's much criticized...

The plunge in the president’s approval was also fueled by the rise this summer and autumn...

Biden's flagging numbers could spell major trouble for the Democrats as they try to hold on to their razor-thin majorities...

Biden's current numbers are in worse shape than then-President Obama's approval ratings in 2009 and 2010, ahead of the Democrats' disastrous 2010 midterms. And they're nearly as negative as then President Trump's approvals in 2017 and 2018

That's Fox News being remarkably accurate and unbiased, but still negative. The entire article is dripping with emotive terms designed to make the numbers sound bad, along with myriad speculations as to the 'causes' of the 'plunge' (the overall cause apparently being that people are idiots - though Fox doesn't spell it out because that truth would insult their viewers).

A winning strategy for sure. Come 2024 people won't remember the details, but will have a vague recollection that everything about Biden was bad. Never mind that he didn't turn out to be senile, the pullout from Afghanistan wasn't the disaster they predicted, hyperinflation didn't crash the economy, he did an excellent job of squashing the virus compared to his predecessor, and the unvaccinated only had themselves to blame for getting infected.

Polls are largely a reflection of media coverage. News in general follows a well-worn formula of playing up negatives. There's an old saying in the industry - If it Bleeds it Leads - but that principle doesn't just apply to physical violence and disasters. Half the country is hoping the Biden administration will crash and burn, and the other half fears it will. Such an opportunity for clicks can't be passed up. But the worst thing is there's a good chance the coverage will fulfill its own prophecy.

Saule Omarova blamed the banking industry for helping to sink her nomination to become one of the country's top banking regulators, saying they distorted her research, which led to an environment in which attacks against her became unfair and personal.

Omarova made her comments to NPR's Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep in her first interview since she withdrew her nomination last week to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which oversees more than 1,000 U.S. banks.

The Cornell University law professor had faced unusually direct attacks from some Republican senators and conservative groups during her nomination, including outright suggestions that Omarova, who was born in the then Soviet Union, held "communist" views.

What an embarrassment that Biden refused to back this excellent candidate. I guess not everyone can get the Neera Tanden treatment.

It's pathetic that Dems are so ready to roll over in the face of red-baiting.

Let's just vote for a new president every year. By mail. No polling needed. Then we won't get any stale president.

The law making would be left to congress. The president would just sign bills and pull out of war zones and send the national guard to tornado and hurricane disasters.

The Child Tax Credit is dead, student loans are going to be resuming payment schedules, and Pelosi is on TV defending openly corrupt stock trading by lawmakers.

It's like the Dems are trying to lose. Maybe they're just playing the Washington Generals to the Republican's Globetrotters.

If these idiot Dems somehow manage to let Trump back in office...wow, what a bunch of losers. As much as I hate the Democratic party, this would make me hate them even more.
