Cont: The Biden Presidency Part II

Biden's approval rate for under 40 and especially under 30 voters is plummeting.

I guess the message of "shut up and take it" is not a political winner

Doing nothing is not cost-free.
But Millennials love it when people tell them they're acting like entitled babies! They're all like, "okay, Boomer," and then we all have a nice chuckle and go down to the store for a malt.

According to YouGov/The Economist polling, support for President Biden among Americans under 30 has taken quite the beating this year — an average of just 29 percent of these young voters now approve of the job Biden's doing as president, compared with an average of 50 percent who disapprove. That net rating of -21 points "is the worst for any age group," writes The Economist.
Maybe he should start Tweeting more and giving Covid advice beside Fauci.

Meanwhile, Biden approval went up from a low of 42.9 to 43.9. Trump at this point was at 37%.

Let's face facts: Democracy in the USA is dead, and it will only be brought back after a great deal of violence.

At this point it's pretty obvious that Biden and the dems want to lose. It would probably be rude to go against their wishes. Respect their decision.

Almost all Democrats were ready to vote yes even when it was still a worthwhile bill, before everything got taken out of it. There just weren't enough of them. The Democrats' only real chance in the next round of elections is if they make it clear that they never really had control of the Senate. That not only is true and cancels out the "but they had control of the Senate and did nothing" argument, but also points straight to its own solution: electing more of them. (If there'd been at least 52, the Manchin-Sinematic Universe wouldn't have mattered. Maybe a third would crawl out of the woodwork, but that wouldn't matter if there'd been 53.)

Very strange phrasing from Manchin: "I tried everything". What exactly is he claiming to have tried, and what goal was he striving toward other than just getting to vote no? What is there about it that he would have ever voted yes on?

Manchin tried delaying, offering up vague criticisms and refusing to actually give specifics to work with on what needed to be changed to get his vote, changing his mind on how much lower things needed to go when concessions were made, getting the bill split up into parts that were more and less acceptable to the COC...

The only "helpful" thing that he might have done would be to talk to his corporate owners donors to try to get them to agree and exert pressure on the Republicans that they hold sway over.

Democratic controlled senate confirms Rahm Emmanuel, who as mayor conspired to cover up the police murder of a black child, in the dead of night.

The Senate during a rare middle-of-the-night session confirmed Rahm Emanuel to be President Biden's ambassador to Japan.

Senators voted 48-21 early Saturday morning on Emanuel's nomination. Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore) voted against his nomination.

To poke at Manchin and the BBB from another couple angles -

#ManchinSlump already more expensive than Build Back Better investment requirement

Roughly, considering annualized rates, Goldman Sachs is projecting a shaving of about 0.5% off the U.S. GDP (economy) in 2022 from what might have occurred with Build Back Better provisions. With a $22T economy, this means a reduction of roughly $110B in 2022 and a compounding cost for every year that follows (with both the lowered base rate due to reduced growth along with lowered investment & returns due to the Build Back Better not being in place). Projected across 10 years, with that compounding implications and all the uncertainties, Goldman is project a 2032 economy over $1T smaller due to a failure to move forward with (funded) investment of $175B per year.

And...

"I Would've Been That 50th Vote", Democratic Senate Candidates Slam Joe Manchin (D. WV) On BBB

John Fetterman (D. PA), Mandela Barnes (D. WI), Tim Ryan (D. OH), Lucas Kunce (D. MO), Val Demings’ (D. FL) are examples of those running for a Senate seat who are stating that they would be voting for BBB. I looked a little, but saw no evidence of Republicans, candidates or otherwise, stating that they would support it. If you happen to be interested, the specific statements and added links to where one could donate to those Democrats' campaigns can be found at the link.

Silver lining is that the SALT tax giveaway to the rich is dead, though I wouldn't be surprised if this single issue was separated and passed on its own.

Lol Biden squandered so much of the only viable time he's going to have in his administration on this wild goose chase:

Manchin on WV radio saying he knew from the beginning he wouldn't support BBB, but let Democrats negotiate.

That he got to his "wits end" after staff (either White House or Senate) did *something* that angered him enough to just come out and say he was never going to get to yes

Even more strangeness from slightly earlier in the same statement (cut out of the clip I'd seen before)... he said he couldn't "explain" a yes-vote to the people of West Virginia. He already knows not only that he wouldn't need to, but also that a no-vote would be what's actually hard to "explain" anyway. It's like someone who's punching you saying he has to keep punching you because otherwise he couldn't "explain" to you why he stopped.

Perhaps it depends a bit on which portion of the people of West Virginia he's talking about. His fellow coal owners/executives, for example. It's also probably worth noting that multiple right-wing groups have spent 6 to 7 figure ad campaigns praising and supporting him for obstructing BBB, though even Trump voters there seem to understand that BBB would help them a fair bit.

Excuse me while I laugh myself stupid over a lame duck presidency, thanks to a supposedly Democrat-majority Senate, with still three years to run.

2022 is going to be a bloodbath.

Manchin "tried" to do the impossible: agree to stuff that would cost something and make sure none of this spending affected coal mines. No new mines will ever appear in W Virginia. Because you just scoop up the coal in Wyoming.

And electric cars? No way with union plants. Child care? No. But that other stuff might be OK. Healthcare. Insulin. As long as it does not cost anything.

Nixon made kidney dialysis work everywhere in the US. And he was not a communist.

You really have to laugh, don't you? It's just so ridiculous.

It's like a riddle, what can be worse than the Obama years where Republican controlled Senate obstructed everything? How about a Biden administration where the Democratic controlled Senate obstructs everything! 4 years of Biden kicking himself in the dick until Trump or someone worse easily coasts back into power.

Biden the Dealmaker getting told to go **** himself by a literal coal baron. What a hoot.

I said months ago that the Dems needed to oust this guy, and people were all like, "OMG! Then we'll have a Republican in WV instead of him!"

Well, he's proven he's not just useless, he's actively sabotaging the Democratic agenda. He's been negotiating in bad faith this entire time. It's time to say **** it, even a Republican wouldn't be this bad. Because doing everything the party can to get rid of this ******* might, maybe just possibly, help them in other states.

Primary his ass, and if he somehow still survives that, deny him any support from the party. Hang him out to dry, and be very public about why you're doing that. If need be, run a third candidate as an independent, **** some **** up in WV.

Manchin and Sinema were both elected in 2018, so we can't do much to them right now.

Manchin is in his 70s, and had to be begged to run in 2018 (don't get me started on that), so there is a non-zero chance that he will retire to spend more time with his money before then.

Sinema is trying to be John McCain, but is more closely resembling last term Joe Lieberman. She will reach 2024 with a huge war chest of corporate cash, an approval rating in the teens, and nothing else.
