Does "I" Exist? Or, Just a Concept?

So, this is what started it all, huh? ...

You folks just couldn't wait now could you? Anyway, I wonder what it really would be like if these two did get together?

Wait? For what exactly? For you to make sense? Yes, that idea, that a person who proports to have magical powers, and a person who examine the world critically can magically become at peace, one, through no more than the fact that each have a vulva is absurd. You degenerated from there in a bizzare charicature of women.

Well, I admit that it's not the greatest site but, it is "my site." Really, I thought you were supposed to be more observant than this? ;)

I was trying to be polite. And more to the point, I was a bit surprised you'd be so short on hamster power as to link your own fiction as evidence for something.

Yes, it is. You made a stupid comment that it would all work out due to Magical Vaginal Blood Power.
Never said that.

Then we smacked you for it.

Then you dug past the ancient civilizations deep withing our hollow Earth and we asked, "Why?" Yet, you continue to dig.
I personally would be interested in seeing what these two had to say to each other. ;)

Bizzare, and might I add, dehumanizing.

Women are human and that comes with all the good and the bad. All the pride, all the arrogance. Sure, there are behavoiral differences, but by taking away the bad, you take away part of what makes people, people.

See, the first two comments are normal discussion. Then you add the bit about "because they're women." Note that the women part has nothing to do with it. Instead of a mildy hopeful (if a bit naive) sentiment, you instead broadcast "I am Iacchus, a naff and a nitwit. I'll now post drivel so you can insult me!"

Much better just to leave the bit about "seeing as how they're both women" out.
Dionysus was the god of women. He was also known as a fertility god. So, did you follow my link?

LA, according to Iacchus, you are not a person, but an octo-pissy with an eight sided vagina.

Never said that.

Did you not say that they would work it out because they are women? And that women always get along?

Is that any less stupid than Magical Vaginal Blood Connection? Doesn't it amount to the same thing?

"Hey, I see you have a vagina."
"I do. You also have one!"
"I do! Let's be bestest friends forever and ever even if we're polar opposites."
"Yes! We're women and we always get along!"
:fg: :fg:

NO. WRONG. DOES NOT WORK IN THAT MANNER.

And then you just went and compounded it.

Not according to Wikipedia, who says that not even the pagans see him that way. Encyclopedia Mythica will grant you the bit about fertility, assuming you don't extend it to humans and human fertility. He most certainly was not the god of women. Nor was there a Greco-Roman god of women.

So, did you follow my link?

I did. I do not feel enriched. And it's hardly a source to present as evidence of any assertions about mythology.

Also, get some design help.

I really don't tend to look at women in the idealized sense, if that's what you mean. I just appreciate them more from the standpoint of their beauty and femininity. Of course I think it's kind of disgusting when women have to behave like men because they feel like they have something to prove too.

Which is the opposite of:

Women are known to get along much better than men.

Of course I think it's kind of disgusting when women have to behave like men because they feel like they have something to prove too.

So "proving" something makes someone no longer a woman? What is LA trying to prove to you?

Thread is Trashed ...

Well, I think this thread has pretty much been trashed, unless of course the mods would consider at least splitting it, beginning with post #162.

I am certain that everyone here is perfectly capable of conversing in a civil tone if they try. I'd suggest that be kept in mind in future, thanks, especially when composing new threads.
Replying to this modbox in thread will be off topic  Posted By: kiless

Hey, that would be something if both she and Orloff could get together wouldn't it?
That would be like watching matter and anti-matter come together.
Or, maybe they could reconcile their differences, seeing as how they're both women?
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention here, is that I view both women as professionals and, that if Dr. Blackmore was anywhere near as kind hearted and generous as Dr. Orloff, I don't see how there could be a problem. Of course the only problem I see (with you folks) is that Dr. Blackmore may stand in danger of being switched over to Dr. Orloff's line of thinking. Or, if not, I could hardly imagine it culminating into a catfight. At least, in my opinion, I know that Dr. Orloff is not that dumb. ;)

Actually, I think the trashing started with post 161, in which you made a baseless and patronising assertion which effectively caused the derailment.

I dunno, you take your eyes off a thread for a few hours and suddenly...

The brain is complex. It is the most complex system that we know exists!

If you consider the Internet as a single system - the network and all the computers connected to it - then it is significantly more complex than the brain. Exactly how much more complex depends on how you want to fiddle the numbers, but one order of magnitude is almost certainly too low, and two is probably too high. Unless you choose to take into account the data stored on the disk drives in those computers, in which case it is at least three orders of magnitude more complex, and possibly four.

Some days I'm suprised that it works at all.

Well, here we go again ...

No, I think folks were just waiting to come unglued. And yes, I personally do think men tend to be less compromising when it comes to agreeing with each other. It was actually a compliment in favor of women, believe it or not ... albeit I suspected it might incite one or two male egos around here. Because, "No, we're not going to have anyone touching our beloved pet theories." I think men tend to have a hard time when it comes to admitting that they're wrong. In fact I have often heard women say this very same thing.

Well, half compliment, half astoundingly patronizing (and all without much supporting evidence).

But we both know your views on women are not the point of the thread, so I'm happy to drop the issue and ignore the bit about women agreeing if you are. Heck, we could even start another thread on that specific issue. Then this thread could go back to discussing if "I" exists. I believe the last relevant point was the difference of opinion between Drs. Blackmore and Orloff...

So...you have not yet watched Blackmore's presentation.

Actually, Iacchus, you could benefit by watching the entire set of videos. Koch's talk (second third of the first video--he's the guy in the silly shirt) speaks directly to your ignorance. The guy before Blackmore in the second video also, although his talk is too advanced for you technically.

In addition to learning quite a bit about what we do know about consciousness, and about the sort of evidence that people who actually care about consciousness are able to muster, there would be a huge secondary benefit for you: If you watch all the videos, you will be occupied for several hours, away from this forum. We'll all miss you, but it will be worth it.
