Texas safeguards the 2nd Amendment.
Today, Constitutional carry goes into effect.
Texans who legally own a gun are now allowed to carry it in public. No license or training is needed.

I think the bigger problem with the comparison with cars is that motor vehicles are a vital part of the infrastructure. You can't have everyone within walking distance of where they work any more, or not without completely killing the economies of scale (1000 small workshops will not be as efficient as the same number of people in one big factory). And good luck getting the materials there and then the products to the shops with... err... what? Canals like waay back?

So, tragic as it may be, we need to put up with a number of accidental deaths to keep the economy going. We would like to eliminate as many as possible, mind you, but not if it means turning into a third country and possibly causing even more deaths by starvation.

I don't think the same argument works for guns. In fact, we have more than enough examples of countries where it's very very hard to get a gun (e.g., Japan) and it didn't seem to affect their economy much.

Look for a rise in the number of dead Texans.

I remember when another "skeptic" here at ISF foresaw a similar future for Chicago when concealed carry weapons were finally permitted in the city, that was way back in 2013.

He predicted "thousands" of deaths at the hands of CCW holders – it never happened.

Maybe your ability to see into the future will prove much more accurate than his, time will tell.

Washington, District of Columbia

3 killed, 3 wounded.

Contee said the suspects exited a vehicle and fired shots down the block, into a crowd of individuals hanging out there. He said he wasn't sure why the crowd was targeted.

Birmingham, Alabama

2 killed, 2 wounded.

An argument inside of a "Superior For Men" turned into gunplay and a car chase. This is the third shooting at the strip mall in just over one year. Given the police description of the suspect, DHS won't be interested in this one (that's an assumption, no word on their covid or election stance).

Monroe, Louisiana

1 killed, 3 wounded.

Also, as has been pointed out, even the USA regulated vehicle operation more stringently than access to firearms.
Licenses for use, extensive, specialised, law enforcement monitoring of usage, substance abuse tests for operators, restrictions on where vehicles can be operated, et cetera.

Look for a rise in the number of dead Texans.
They'll hardly be noticed due to the Covidiocy.

Houston, Texas

4 killed.

Familicide. Two adults, two children.

Athens, Georgia

7 wounded.

A fight downtown turned into a shooting.
ACCPD has identified Pharoah Devonell Williams, 21, as the suspect.

Lakeland, Florida

4 killed.

A "survivalist" named Bryan Riley, who is a former Marine with PTSD, is the shooter. This isn't a DVE we were warned about, he's just a crazy dude who talks to God and was high on meth.

Warner Robins, Georgia

1 killed, 4 wounded.

Police were called to a disturbance at a "Block party" where upon their arrival someone opened fire before speeding off in a car.

One 15-year-old was killed.

One 16-year-old was wounded.

Two 17-year-olds were wounded.

One 18-year-old was wanted.

I wonder how much Michelle Obama worries about her daughter's attending block parties?

Indeed. Just pointing out that even then, there's a reason we need one, that doesn't apply to the other. Is all I'm saying.

Former US army sniper kills four, including baby, in Florida

A former sniper in the US military killed four people, including a woman and her three-month-old baby boy in her arms, before surrendering to police in central Florida.

The suspect, identified as Bryan Riley, 33, also wounded an 11-year-old girl who underwent surgery for seven gunshot injuries, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told a news conference on Sunday.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said,

“It would have been nice if he would have come out with a gun … We would have shot him up a lot. But he didn’t because he was a coward,” Judd said. “When someone chooses to give up, we take them into custody peacefully.”

Broken country....

Suspect in Florida quadruple homicide falsely believed he was saving sex-trafficking victim, police say

Ain't it great that crazy people are allowed to have guns?

(I see this has been reported already, but I guess the new info is the suspect's motive: he thought that there was an imaginary sex-trafficking victim.)

Bryan Riley, 33, ambushed the family by first conducting a pre-dawn “reconnaissance” on Sunday at the home in Lakeland, about 40 miles east of Tampa. ...

Riley eventually shot his way into the home while carrying multiple firearms and wearing a bullet-proof vest, before he systematically killed the victims, who were asleep only moments before, Judd said during a news conference.

Police said prior to entering the home where he shot the victims, he staked out the scene and set two vehicles on fire as a diversion. He also laid out glow sticks leading to a path to the home, in what officials have said may have been an attempt to draw officers into an ambush.

So this wasn't a repeat of the Comet Pizza BS, where it's some guy with a rifle and not much sense. This was a military veteran who currently works as a merc, heavily equipped and going all-out Rambo over QAnon BS.

Once in the home, Riley “tortured” an 11-year-old girl by shooting her multiple times after she was unable to tell him where Amber was, Judd said. Despite being shot several times, the girl survived and spoke with police about her terrifying encounter.

“He counted down and said ‘3, 2, 1,’” before shooting the girl, Judd said. The girl recalled being shot at least two more times. As the girl was bleeding and in distress, Riley asked her if she knew why he had to kill her parents, Judd said. “Because they’re sex traffickers,” Judd said he told the girl.

#SaveTheChildren

I know a retired Marine who thinks he's saving a sex-trafficking victim, so far he's paying money and plans to send police, but I should make sure he doesn't think to Rambo it himself.

Regarding the incident my post above addresses; it's interesting how the Fox News article reports the information from the Sheriff's press conference. Fox News attaches special significance to the statement that the 11-year-old girl survived by "praying" - putting it in the first paragraph and repeating and re-quoting that statement particular statement multiple times in the article. But although it largely references the same news conference in which Sheriff Judd explained the shooter's apparent motive, the Fox News article doesn't even once mention that purpose of the shooter's home invasion was to rescue a "child sex-trafficking victim" who didn't exist.

He also murdered an infant and repeatedly shot another child who is currently the only surviving member of the family, so I guess Mission Accomplished?
