Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 27

It's true the abortion bill has nothing to do with Trump, but I would say Ducey is flouting Trump by refusing to call the National Guard or state police to somehow protect the vote recount. It does my heart good because I love to see Republicans at each other's throats.

Governors are maybe a little less insane than Republican state legislators, who almost always seem dreadful to me. Maybe because the governors have to win statewide races instead of just their own custom gerrymandered districts. However I think the abortion bill sucks. How convenient that embryos don't have civil rights until they are implanted in a uterus. If it gets crowded in there, do the embryos to be culled have civil rights? I'm betting not, but that is OT for this thread.

ETA: He also went out of his way to praise the state Senate's president, perhaps trying to thread the needle of promoting conservative causes while ignoring Trump.

Perhaps he just doesn't want to look like a damned fool calling them out to "protect" something that is in no danger. It's nothing but a stunt to make it appear that the recount is in danger from the Dems who are trying to hide the 'election fraud'. If Ducey were to do that, he'd be giving credibility to their claims.

It must be awfully hard for Republicans these days when they agree with their vaunted leader that everyone is stupid, corrupt and incompetent except when it applies to themselves.

Put them all up against the wall. Hey, what are you doing? Not me, them!

Trump says after the Midterms would be the most appropriate time to announce his 2024 candicay.
COunt me as one who thinks that Trump is not going to run but will tease it as long as possible to maintain his power in the GOP so he can milk his followers for all they are worth.
And of course while he is 'milking' the MAGAchud/GOP faithful, he is throwing a wrench into the plans of various republicans who might want to either take a run for the presidency, or for congress, since making plans in an uncertain political landscape is difficult.

When people make golems, they always forget that after the golem attacks the creator’s enemies, it attacks its creator.

If I can quote the American philosopher Nelson: “Ha Ha.”

Quite a few Republican politicians have no problem giving credibility to Trump's claims that Dems are trying to hide election fraud. When I see Republicans not kowtowing to Trump, yet pushing conservative agendas, I feel like they are walking a fine line. It seems they're betting that they can win primaries without Trump's blessing, even if Trump or the RNC endorses the other candidate. I don't know if that's significant, or just reflective of the nature of statewide races vs. contests within a gerrymandered legislative district.

I know Trump is delusional, but I thnk he knows, deep down, he can't win in 2024. He is just out to make as much money as possible, and remain the kingmaker in the GOP and maybe punish the party for not being loyal enough to him.

It has always been about the campaign money for Trump. The problem was he accidentally won in 2016 and attracted too much scrutiny.

If Biden runs again, I think that's possibly true. If he declines to run for re-election and Harris takes the top of the Democratic ticket, there might be enough racists/misogynists out there to make a difference. There are a lot of variables out there and it wouldn't take much of a swing. We may know more after 2022.

Well, yes...but we weren't discussing other Republican politicians. We were specifically discussing Gov. Ducey of AZ who did not engage in Trump's Big Lie nonsense. Your initial claim was that he was "flouting Trump" by not calling out the National Guard and police to guard the recount facilities.

As far as other Republicans kowtowing to Trump, I think it depends on individual circumstances of each district or state. How "red" or "Trumpian" are they? How popular are they in their area? If they feel they really need Trump's endorsement, they'll kiss his big fat arse. If not, they won't.

No, I don't think he does. I think he's psychologically incapable of knowing that. He knows for absolute certainty, that he is the most important and most popular person on the planet. He also knows, for absolute certainty, that he has enemies who want nothing other than to bring him down. He knows, for absolute certainty, that the only reason he lost the election is a criminal conspiracy by those enemies.

These are the things that Girth Vader knows. They will not stop him from trying to run again, and when he loses, it will again be because his enemies engaged in a criminal conspiracy to prevent it, and not because everyone other than him knows that he is an incompetent, blowhard bully with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Not really "Miami"; it's one private school with an idiot anti-vaxxer owner.

Somehow menstruation works it's way into the argument (cycle-syncing, I think).
At that point I said... Nope, too stupid, I'm out. [emoji52]

I think an argument could be made that anyone sending their kids to that school (or any like it) is guilty of child abuse.

I agree with this caveat: Is there a "deep down" in Trump? I'm no shrink but I wonder if one of the characteristics of an extreme narcissist like Trump is that they are incapable of introspection.

Of course Trump is. We saw 4 years of it demonstrated.

I also agree. His niece, Mary Trump, also says that there is no "deep" Trump.

Donald does not know who he is because he doesn't have an identity. Donald does not have a core. He is a completely false self. He is somebody — and to me this is a sign of serious psychopathy — who is exactly the same whether he is in front of a crowd of 50,000 people or in a room with his wife or his children, whether he's in a Cabinet meeting or hanging out on the golf course. He is the same person across every circumstance. That is deeply disturbing. Donald is entirely a construct. The question is, what happens when there's nobody watching anymore? He ceases to exist, essentially.

I think a qualified psychiatrist might be able to drill past all that and reveal that deep down he knows he’s a small, flawed and frightened individual. That all the puffery is to avoid ever having that fact exposed. Mary Trump’s book was pretty insightful along those lines, and I think it’s the best explanation.
