Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 27

It's Trump country. What do you think would have happened to local officials who tried to block a Trump rally? And you can be sure Trump would have been saying something like "We always pay for everything, there's never been a problem...."
New Mexico is not really Trump country. I think the problem is simply that cities apparently are operating out of some misguided notion that large political organizations headed by the US president will pay their ******* bills. It's an old-fashioned idea.

Also city officials probably would be uncomfortable with the appearance of shutting speech down, and not just due to criticism from the right.

It doesn't take a huge percentage of an area's population to fill a rally venue, and quite a few people would be willing to drive 2-3 hours for a rally. In that sense everywhere is Trump country, because most places are a mix of urban and rural, Democrat and Republican, left and right. Some people follow the guy around like flies on ****.

I imagine the default is that if the president is coming to your city for a fundraiser, you work with their campaign to find a venue. Like I said, it's old-fashioned.

Not really "Miami"; it's one private school with an idiot anti-vaxxer owner.
Somehow menstruation works it's way into the argument (cycle-syncing, I think).
At that point I said... Nope, too stupid, I'm out. [emoji52]

How getting a Covid vaccine jumps to another's woman menstrual cycle is beyond me but we're talking about someone who also claimed that women had suffered miscarriages just by standing next to someone who had been Covid 19 vaccinated.

Here's a link to her Instagram page. Can you say "crazy"?

Trump continues to push false claims of election fraud in weekend flurry of press releases

The one-term president attacked Arizona Governor Doug Ducey in new statements over a controversial election audit supported by Republican state legislators.
The ballots are now out of county custody, turned over to the highly partisan state Senate and being counted at the state fairgrounds. There is nothing remotely transparent about the process.

Who's counting? Who's paying? Who's watching? Big questions loom as election audit set to begin

Judge has doubts on voter privacy in Maricopa County election audit

I don't know why Ducey isn't falling into line on this. He's a conservative guy and today signed a hot mess of an anti-abortion bill that right-wingers are going to love. Zygotes are people, except the ones formed by IVF. (Those little guys are not people :( and are SOL.)

IMO, he's calculating that he can push a conservative agenda while not kowtowing to Trump. In theory he should be right, but I'm not sure it will work in practice. The Republicans still seem to me like the party of Trump.

I have no Twitter, so I'd like someone to suggest "Toupee Fiasco", a name that actually made me LOL. With all due acknowledgement to whoever here brought it first.

Also, "Cheeto Benito". Same disclaimer.

What gives you that idea? That the majority of them are still so far up his arse that it takes a search warrant to find them?
There are occasionally signs of independence flaring, but it never amounts to much. The governor of Arizona is flouting him right now during a vote recount but also just signed a major bill restricting abortions. Seems like he is trying to help clear the decks for post-Trump conservative politics.

Well, one thing is certain. Since those ballots may have been marked with blue and/or black pens, this is the last ballot recount. The whole lot is permanently ruined. Thanks, GOP.

Ducey isn't flouting Trump at all over the recount; he's just ignoring his attacks. He already crossed Trump last Nov. by not supporting his Big Lie nonsense during and after the election by saying AZ's election was won by Biden fair and square. He could hardly back the nonsense that's going on there now by supporting the state GOP controlled Senate's desperate and purely theatrical "recount" move without admitting they might have a leg to stand on.

As for the abortion bill Ducey signed into law, that has nothing to do with Trump. Ducey has always been strongly anti-abortion and has never vetoed an anti-abortion bill.

And managed to piss off both sides for good measure. One side thinks it goes too far and the other side not far enough.

Rudy Giuliani's NY apartment was just raided by the Feds re: the Ukraine DOJ investigation according to CNN. They seized electronic devices.

Trump says after the Midterms would be the most appropriate time to announce his 2024 candicay.
COunt me as one who thinks that Trump is not going to run but will tease it as long as possible to maintain his power in the GOP so he can milk his followers for all they are worth.

It's true the abortion bill has nothing to do with Trump, but I would say Ducey is flouting Trump by refusing to call the National Guard or state police to somehow protect the vote recount. It does my heart good because I love to see Republicans at each other's throats.

Governors are maybe a little less insane than Republican state legislators, who almost always seem dreadful to me. Maybe because the governors have to win statewide races instead of just their own custom gerrymandered districts. However I think the abortion bill sucks. How convenient that embryos don't have civil rights until they are implanted in a uterus. If it gets crowded in there, do the embryos to be culled have civil rights? I'm betting not, but that is OT for this thread.

ETA: He also went out of his way to praise the state Senate's president, perhaps trying to thread the needle of promoting conservative causes while ignoring Trump.

Yep. He wants (needs?) to be in the A block on cable TV so milking a possible run is scheme #1 to do that. He's not gonna run again.
