How do pagans celebrate Christmas?

This is an unfair question. It doesn't really matter does it? Personally, I've sampled most of the world's religions, and a few that aren't quite ready for prime-time. KK has enough material for legitimate complaints without creating any silly ones, Cleon.
 
Back on topic - though I don't know why - this particular agnostic pagan (hey, I won't deny the existence of multiple gods!) is married to a Christian, and also just loves the whole celebration thing. I love the idea of Father Christmas. I think its great that we're going to acknowledge the solstice. I love the idea that I'm going to spoil my kid rotten for the first time in her life. We are going to a family party on the 24th, then watching my kid open WAAAAAY too many gifts on th 25th, followed by having friends joining us for dinner. Since one couple is Jewish, and this is the first night of Hannuakah, they will be bringing a menorah, lighting candles and singing prayers. We'll burn a yule log. I shall get very happy on mulled cider.

May the light of the christmas frog (green, with santa hat, and on our front lawn), the sparkle of many glittery construction paper snowflakes, and a really good time be in store for anybody who is celebrating anything at this time.

ETA: And cookie baking - don't forget baking lots of cookies using shortening AND butter with family fingerprints (and probably a few cat hairs if you're in my house) all over them.

Well, given that the title of this thread is "how do pagans celebrate Christmas," and she makes statements such as "I have heard of many Wiccans and Satanist being turned around," I'm just making the point that she seems a tad, ah, inconsistent.

I've seen a lot of fundies try to convert people with the "I used to be _____ and then I found Jesus," and a good bit of the time it turns out to be complete BS. Case in point is Mike Warnke, a Christian comedian who built his career by claiming to have been a Satanist high priest--turns out that it was a load of hooey.

I'm just wondering if kathy isn't doing the same thing. "I used to be a pagan, then I found Jesus," "I used to be Catholic, then I found Jesus..." What's next, she used to be Muslim?

Well, criminey! I always liked Mike Warnke, and his routine about going into the army as a hippie, complete with beads, feathers, and bells braided into his hair....until he got that regulation military haircut.... ("snip-dingle, snip-dingle, snip-dingle").

Another illusion shattered, and the sad part is, I'm not even surprised.

I actually never heard his stuff; I heard about his case from a Something Positive comic a while back. But when I first read about it, I kept thinking "you know, an awful lot of fundies do that 'I used to be ____ before I found Jesus' bit..."

I'll give Warnke this, he's GMANED funny. Jon Trott and <mumble> from Cornerstone magazine were the ones who tracked down all of Mike's claims and found them to be laking. Mike is still around tho.

Anyhoo, I understand, but just because she claims to "have been" various things in the past is no reason to slam her. She's given us more than enough material to work with so we don't have to resort to such trivial matters. If you were going for a Gestalt complaint, I'll withdraw my point.

Yeah, and not a few of them came to one of the many churches I attended. There was Warnke, some ex-Black Sabbath (drummer?) guy, and I seem to remember a man who was horribly disfigured, but the details of that one elude me completely now. All I vaguely remember was that he was doing something he ought not, and got hurt, died-and-came-back, and found God/Jesus.

Warnke, however, is quite funny, at least in his signature routine. I've also read his book, "The Satan Seller." It's supposedly the book that's not true...I wonder if parts of the comedy routine were at least based on truth?

The picture that Trott and the article wrote painted a picture of a pathalogical...um..storyteller. Mike would make things up, then run with it. Apparently, he was very good at it, and quite entertaining.

I saw Warnke a good number of times, had quite a few of his records, and yes, he was very funny. Most of his early work was an extension of the book, and he started branching out in the later ones.

"I wanted to serve my country, but I'm not CRAZY. So, I went into the NAvy. I took all the exams and came up a corpsman. Now, that is when I found out that the MArine Corps do not have their own coprsmen. They use NAvy medical Corpsmen. I spent five and a half years in the Marine Corps."

I was a bit disenheartened when I first read it as well. I wasn't too far from being a Christian at the time, so I still was in that gravitational pull.

I'm just glad that it was a Christian mag that did it, rather than a secular one. THat makes it harder to level the "Atheist ploy" against it.

"Experts that are Christians"? By that, I assume you mean biologists who are also Christians. There are quite a few, but I'm afraid they are overwhelmingly evolutionists. So, that leaves us at a puzzlement: what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks do you mean by this assertion? Please both explain and back it up with detailed citations. We'll get to your other assertions later.

Kind of like Ken Ham, eh? Maybe he's had a sex change and decided to out himself on JREF. But, fowlsound, you didn't ask me if I'm surpised. No, but thanks for asking. Sorry, I meant the never answering bit, not the sex change operation bit.

Nonetheless, Ken/Kathy/Whoever is on my radar screen, along with the likes of "love" and "MeadMaker," "Beth," etc., etc., etc. So many woos, so little time.

No that's not next. As a pagan I was too open to everything. New age beliefs. Now I know that's not OK. Being convicted of being involved in the occult type stuff. Going to phsycics, reading my horoscopes,believing those types things are bad! But it was because I considered being spiritual was ok for all types of wrong beliefs. anyway I'll tell you more after Christmas...Still a few gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and food to celebrate with my family and freinds. At least I had the decorating done last week. Tis the season to be happy and share with the ones you love!!

Feel free to share whatever you like with the ones you love, hope you have a good time doing it however I doubt many of us wish to "share" any more of your preaching at us in a condescending manner.

If you care to actually debate your views, that might be a different manner. You might care to think on that.
