The Biden Presidency

That seems questionable. I mean look at all the money they are able to get to private prisons through the use of the current system. You just have to focus your priorities on what it truely important like making a profit, and not on crap like humane detention. The US showed exactly what it thought of that with its torture programs so why would we expect law enforcement to have a different standard?

The private prisons are a symptom of ICE not being able to manage their own facilities, combined with some super shady dark money lobbying by a few companies in Texas. Biden has already ordered the government to end private prison contracts. ICE is going to have to get a lot better at detention and quickly.

From that link:

It's that sort of comment that causes GOPers to complain that the coastal elite snobs look down on them.

Meh. It look s kind of bad in print, but seeing her speak I think it is understandable. It think she realized that a quote of something like "We're putting Harriet Tubman on our notes" wouldn't work because there would be confusion about what notes she is talking about.

It is commonly called a $20 bill; referring to it as a note is rather more obscure. She is probably trained to not use jargon and instead use the language familiar to the audience and she caught herself using something akin to jargon that might not be clear and somewhat awkwardly tried to correct that mistake.

2. Allows a person who feels they are transgender (versus what the doctor wrote down on the birth certificate) to compete in sports. If you are a person who identifies as a female but were given "male" status at birth... you can compete in women's sports.

... and many others. All done by Executive Order.

False. There are a whole load of medical and time regulations issued by not only the states, but also by schools, universities, etc regarding when transgender people can and cannot participate in sports of their non-birth sex. I cited these in an earlier discussion, IIRC, with you.

To poke at a couple things...

Fox News, OANN, and the like might lose their normal access to the White House press briefings.

"White House officials promise a sea change from how the Trump White House interacted with the press. Biden’s team plans to lay out clear criteria for qualifying for a so-called 'hard pass' to access the grounds in consultation with the WHCA, officials told POLITICO. If current passholders in the media continue to meet the criteria determined together with the correspondents’ association, they will continue to have hard passes. [...] But Biden’s aides also promised not to allow outlets to use the briefings to spread baseless conspiracies."

"'We expect reporters covering the White House to operate in good faith and tell their audience the truth, and this White House will do the same. We are moving forward with that mutual understanding,' said T.J. Ducklo, the deputy White House press secretary. 'Organizations or individuals who traffic in conspiracy theories, propaganda and lies to spread disinformation will not be tolerated, and we’ll work with the WHCA to decide how to handle those instances moving forward.'"

Also...

In major shift from the prior guy, qualified people are going to important Homeland Security roles

Good.

No parts, no participation?

ICE continues to deport in clear insubordination to Biden's order for a 100 day freeze, meanwhile they continue to blanket the streets of Portland in chemical weapons and deploy heavy-handed tactics against protestors.
The Texas AG went to a conservative-friendly district to shop for a friendly judge, and landed with a Trump-appointed, Federalist Society-approved member of Republican National Lawyers Association, who, surprise, issued a nationwide restraining order against the 100-day freeze

Meanwhile, a federal judge on Tuesday barred the US government from enforcing a 100-day deportation moratorium that is a key immigration priority of the new president, Joe Biden.

US district judge Drew Tipton issued a temporary restraining order sought by Texas, which sued last Friday against a Department of Homeland Security memo that instructed immigration agencies to pause most deportations.
The Guardian: Biden rescinds 'zero tolerance' policy but judge blocks halt to deportations

As Slate points out, the order will probably be overturned on appeal, given that Texas itself failed to show damages, and that previous rulings have given administrations fairly large leeway in determining how to apply deportations.

On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, a Donald Trump appointee, issued a bizarre decision purporting to block Joe Biden’s 100-day halt on deportations. Tipton’s order, which applies nationwide, claims to freeze Biden’s effort to pause the Department of Homeland Security’s deportation machine while the new president revises its priorities. In reality, however, it is unclear whether the order will do anything. Tipton does not appear to have a rudimentary understanding of either immigration law or the practical realities of the immigration system. His ignorance may well render Tuesday’s order effectively toothless.
...
Third, and most importantly, Tipton’s decision is utterly divorced from both the entire framework of federal law governing deportation and the removal system as it functions on the ground. The thrust of Tipton’s reasoning is that a federal statute says the government “shall remove” an immigrant who has been “ordered removed” within 90 days. But, as the Supreme Court recognized as recently as last June, federal law also gives DHS sweeping discretion to determine which immigrants to deport and when. A slew of statutes and regulations recognize this authority and address immigrants who are not removed within 90 days, a clear signal that this deadline is not, in fact, an iron rule.

The order doesn't affect ICE detention. DOJ has been instructed to not renew private prison contracts, but ICE is run through DHS.

In a briefing on Tuesday, Susan Rice, the director of Biden’s domestic policy council, said that the order pertaining to private prisons is “silent on what may or may not transpire with ICE facilities.”

Hopefully a similar such EO to DHS will be coming soon.

I disagree but let me answer your ":Why": The comment I referred to was part of a discussion about money - real, physical money. In that context the comment that " if people don't know what a note is" is pretty damn condescending. Surely in a discussion about the $20 bill, an aside as to what a "note" means is a put down; maybe not intended to be one but, nevertheless, that's how it sounds. Did you really think the reference was to a note your mom wrote excusing you from PE this week?

Uh, no.
What I took was "explaining to those (increasingly during the past year) who don't use cash".

I will say, don't know the current situation in the US, but here in the UK cash is being used less and less (I haven't used it since March last year).

And how does this compare to Trump's routine "No one ever heard of..." comments? Did you feel he was condescending when he kept telling people the amazing fact that Lincoln was a Republican? Or what "priming the pump" meant?

... and the Liberals will go to the 9th Circuit Court.

Unfortunately, we are in an era of "Lawfare" whereas at one time justice was rendered (or at least trying to make it look like justice) in the courts. The courts are currently being used for the benefit of retribution and voiding laws that would have been accepted as laws just 10-18 years ago.

We are on a slippery slope with Executive Orders (both parties issue them like candy) and retribution (again, both parties conduct this practice). Executive Orders takes the legislative process out of the picture and that is bad for the citizens... again, this is not limited to any one party, it is rampant within our so-called 2 party system.

You should keep up with the latest--the 9th circuit is now majority conservative appointees.

That's the best thing about slippery slopes. You can pick any random point on them to up and decide that now is the time we have to worry about it.

90% of Biden's Executive Orders have just been undoing Trump Executive Orders. There's not reason, way, purpose, point, or honest angle to suddenly even bring up Executive Orders as a negative now.

If you weren't ranting to heavens constantly non-stop about Trump's Executive Orders for 4 straight years, you even noticing them now that Biden is doing them is disengenious.

Thank you for keeping this short. I often read this on my phone and that would have been a hassle if you had listed out every time Trump did this.

Appointees do not always equate into conservative or liberal actions. Liberals still go to the 9th Circuit Court... and that is obvious.

Blame the republicans.

They are the party that is unilaterally working to fill the courts with partisans (many of whom are incompetent), while at the same time having politicians (especially Stubby McBonespurs) who doesn't quite understand the concept of a 'constitution'.

Again, blame the republicans.

Executive orders are imperfect. They are sometimes used when legislation would be the preferred mode of action. But, when Obama was president, the republican party became the party of obstructionism. (Moscow Mitch even braked about the nick name "grim reaper" because of all the legislation that died because he wouldn't let the senate act on them.) They did so not because it was "best for the country", but out of pure partisanship.

Then, republicans elected a leader who was so incompetent, he was unable/unwilling to actually help guide any legislation through congress. (So the only thing he could do is use executive orders.)

If republicans had decent, rational politicians in charge, there would be no need for ruling by executive order.

First, I am not a Trump Supporter.

Second, I made it perfectly clear that both parties do this.

Third, if there was a discussion about this in 2016 I would have said the same thing.

Fourth, undoing EO's is fine with me.

Fifth, I have never liked any EO as it takes it out of the legislative process.

Sixth, JFK put out an EO that built up our Vietnam presence and I totally disagreed with that one... it unfortunately became our legacy.

Blame the republicans.
Also blame the Dems for NOT appointing as many Judges during the Obama Administration. This lack of action provided more than the normal amount of Judges to be appointed by the Republicans. The Dems controlled the Senate, the House and the Executive Branch during Obama's first two years.

The action being to avoid the legislative process.

Agreed

The people voted him in just like the people voted in Biden. No argument.

If republicans had decent, rational politicians in charge, there would be no need for ruling by executive order.
Executive Orders have been used for decades by EVERY President. Trump brought it to a new level as I agree earlier with you in this post. I am not charging Biden as being non-decent or irrational for issuing 19 Executive Orders.
