With the caveat that Antifa is not a monolithc organization, I agree that some of the more extreme elements of Antifa are no better then the Trumpists...as much as some here do not want to admit that.
It would be so much easier if I could wear blinders and have a "Left GOOD,Right BAD" mentality, but I just can't.
Antifa is like the KISS Army, anybody can say they're in it, and when the band is in town everyone at the show is KISS Army until the lights go up.
If you only watch TV/Cable news you think Portland Oregon is a war zone, but the action seen on TV takes place within four city blocks-square. The rest of Portland is mellow and a great place from craft beer and awesome donuts. There are a lot of young homeless people in the area, and huge drug problem creating a ready army of sock-puppets for the weekly protests and or riots. It has become the Silocon Valley of leftist causes, which is ironic since Portland is extremely liberal already.
In my view it's the flavor of the month.
Trumpistas have used Antifa as their bogey man for a while as Hilary Clinton faded from view. Trump cultists, like Antifa, have different reasons for supporting their lost cause. Like Antifa they hate the US Government while cashing in on Social Security, VA, Agriculture, and SBA goodies (they're against socialism until they're for it). Like Antifa, they are driven by social media and internet sources. Unlike Antifa, Trumpistas have a low bar for the things they believe, and a firewall against fact-based information. They genuinely believe Biden will usher in an era of Socialist expansion in the US. They state this as if it is fact. Like Antifa they are afraid of something that isn't there, and end up being punished by the problems they themselves create.
Yes, Antifa has no central leadership or platform. If they were ignored they would go away.
Trump has taken a valid political party and shredded it from the inside. The 2020 election was historic, the turnout was amazing, and if anyone else was President they would gather the GOP leadership and build on the outstanding numbers they did receive in the election. They could be in prime position to retake both the House and Senate in 2022, and still have a solid shot at the White House in 2024...until January 6, 2021. Now they're a party that will have to explain it's embrace of lies to promote treason against the country, and democracy.
Technically, Trump is Antifa.
