Trump's Coup d'état.

Oh yes more "Oh this will finally show the Republican's true colors!"

Mitch McConnell can't go to sleep at night without listening to a tape of Democrat calling him a hypocrite on repeat. He can't achieve an erection without a Democrat calling him stupid.

THERE IS NO MAGICAL POINT WHERE THEY GET "SO BAD" IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

A daily lesson for the last four years lost on the Pollyannas.

The Dems won't have to make the Republicans look bad. They will do a great job of that all by themselves.

I think that instead of attacking the Republicans, you just attack Trump. How this session about the electoral count should be about the election tampering committed by this White House.

I don't think he believes any of it. I didn't listen to the full hour but I listened to the highlights, and it seemed to me he deliberately was very careful about making an affirmative statement on anything. then again, it's also pretty typical of him. he never really commits to anything, it's always "people say" or "we've heard" and things of that nature.

Nope, **** that, this is too important for us to pretend we don't know exactly what he's doing. No matter what, he's got to face charges for this. Self pardon? Nope, we'll challenge that too. It's time to stop playing his games. It's no exaggeration to say that the future of democracy in the US is on the line here. If he gets away with this, there's nothing to stop this from happening again.

The full tape of the call between Trump and Georgia's Secretary of State.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/vide...9426f4-7937-4718-8a8e-9d6052001991_video.html

My Lord! I hope he was on drugs because I don't want to believe that this is the sober version of the person who has been President of the United States for that last four years.

What the hell? That was insane.

The call is one hour of Trump just rambling on and on and on with only slight interjections from the state with things like "your numbers are not accurate" and "we investigated that and found no issues" and "we looked into the 5000 dead voters and found 2".

After about 50 minutes of this someone sane on Trump's side has a couple minutes to actually talk about something. This was a one hour rant where the only significant part of the call was this Trump guy and the Secretary's lawyer basically saying:

We have four categories of voters that we think are wrong and are enough to change the election results.
Your numbers are not accurate.
We believe they are accurate. Can we meet to go over them?
Sure. We can set up a meeting to show you why your numbers are wrong.
Can we see the specific voter data?
Well, there are some privacy issues...
[Trump starts yelling]
Can we set this meeting up soon? Maybe we could meet...
[Trump starts yelling]
We'll put together our team and contact you.

If Trump wasn't on the call they probably could have resolved the issues, one way or another, during this time. They accomplished nothing but requesting a meeting sometime.

I bet Cooper, Cuomo, and Lemon (CNN anchors) are pissed they're off tonight. They've been waiting for a bombshell like this for years!

From my distant understanding of the US I think the Dems might do well to emphasise the insult to the states involved (and by extension their citizens) these challenges represent.

This can't be ignored and allowed to become normalized.

Dan Rather in a tweet today:

“The audio of Trump with the Georgia secretary of state. Wow. It’s like telling the Nixon tapes to ‘hold my beer.’”

........
Team Rather forever!

and especially to the the Republican poll workers.

One of the most frustrating things....

I have seen 1 or 2 interviews with Republican politicians who are saying Trump was wrong in what he is doing to challenge the election and about the call. (One was even called "brave" for challenging Trump over this.)

But I have not heard of any commentator challenging those Republican politicians, pointing out how they have enabled Trump for 4 years. I would love to see one of the news anchors point out. Something like "You act surprised Trump would try to overturn the election, but shouldn't you have expected that after he tried to blackmail ukraine to interfere, and you voted against impeachment?"

What I'm curious about now is, when will the rest of the Republican senators figure they might as well go along with Cruz?

Particularly Lindsey Graham.

I wonder if Trump understood that he was being recorded, and that the recordings were part of a public record.

I only listened to the four minutes or so linked above, but the phone call was over an hour long.

I don't think Trump actually crossed the line into prosecutable territory on this phone call. Like he so often does, he hints that he wants the other person to do something illegal, but he doesn't quite come out and say it, so prosecution is impossible. If the other guy actually does the illegal thing Trump wanted him to do, Trump denies it and leaves the other guy holding the bag. See Cohen, Michael. Is it impeachable? That's a political decision. It isn't going to happen.
.

I quoted these posts in the other thread on this topic. Just letting people know.

I'm sorry, but asking how the GOP would react to things Trump is doing here if... is annoying. It's no trivial thing that one or the other party might do and hypocrisy needs to be illustrated.

Clinton would never do anything like this because Clinton is not a pathological narcissist bent on overturning a legit election outcome.

To hear Cruz you'd think he'd just returned from Mars where he hadn't known a thing about Trump protesting the election with faux evidence that 50-60 judges had all thrown out.

"Hey Cruz, the election is over. If you wanted to pull this stunt you should have pulled it 2 months ago."

And who are these idiots kidding besides themselves? Trump has so poisoned his followers' minds no election commission is going to settle anything in their minds.

I hope that gets said on Wed when these yahoos pull this ****.

This can't be ignored and allowed to become normalized.
Absolutely 100% this ^ times 100.

I do think it's OK to let the matter sit until Wed's crap is over. And obviously Trump's acting AG won't be prosecuting Trump.

Biden has said, and I think it was a wise choice on his part, that his Dept of Justice would be staffed with good people and these decisions would be up to the AG. Biden didn't want to be seen as asking the AG to prosecute political cases Biden would like to see prosecuted.

And if bigfoot could speak English....

That's is a piss-poor statement given it is so far from possible. Sorry.

Not really. Do you really think he's saying they'd literally be dragging her out and hanging her? But they'd certainly be calling for her to be charged criminally.
