2020 Presidential Election part 2

"Blue lives matter", the "blue" referring to the uniforms of the US police force, was a troll movement Russian trolls started as a response to the African-American community's "Black Lives Matter", allegedly to protest acts of violence against police officers.

Oh, I know, it's just since this is all about election results I'm not sure how one's feelings toward the police enter into it.

That was probably just the sign they had handy in the garage when they left the house to protest. These people aren't deep thinkers.

Airheads celebrating in the streets.

This country is still ****** (and, therefore, the world is ******). The honeymoon effect will subside when the reality of President Biden sets in.
I actually don't think so. Despite the doom and gloom from some posters here, I think the USA will be fine. Countries have an ebb-and-flow of good and bad times, and the US is currently struggling with a good deal of issues, but nothing that can't be fixed over time. The police force can be reformed. The health system can be improved. Minimum wage can be increased. Social mobility can be improved. Infrastructure can be repaired. And so on. I'm not pretending it'll be easy, but I'm saying the ship can be turned around.

I think the polarization, obstructionism, and the way many live in a post-fact world is the biggest problem the USA has at the moment, since it's such a major obstacle to everything else. It's like they're trying to get a car on the right course, and someone has the foot firmly on the brake pedal.

As for how exactly to heal the divide and move on, and re-establish a healthy social discourse, I have no idea on how specifically to do so. Except finally addressing the plight of the low-income population will probably go a long way.

The problem with that is that most incentives to that end still tend to be shut down as "socialism".

It will be interesting to see what Melania does in January. She supposedly stayed in NYC for 6 months (at a large cost to the taxpayers) so that Barron wouldn't have to change schools in the middle of the school year. Will she stay in DC until June?

Only if Trump goes to Mar a Lago.

trump drove back to the WH past crowds celebrating Biden's win. They were booing and giving his motorcade the finger as he went past.

This morning when it was announced that Biden won, neighbors all around me for blocks were dancing in the street, howling, blowing their car horns. An hour or so later, I had to go into town to get some supplies, and people lined sidewalks and the street, playing music, marching with signs of celebration.

I have been voting for over 50 years. I have been involved in our national politics for more years than that, as were my family. My step-father was simply ultra-right-wing. My mother was just the opposite. She was once arrested at a protest against the Vietnam War.

So. I am just trying to say that I've watched every presidential election and campaign for a long long time, but now I realize that I have never seen people celebrating and dancing in the street as if we are finally feeling some type of freedom.

I doubt it. The last four years have really defined two sides, neither want to work with the other on principle. Comic book villian level polarizing. The alt right does not want peaceful coexistence, and the left does not want racism/neo-fascism. There's no desirable compromises here.

Let the schadenfreude begin.

Donald Trump Confronts a New Label: Loser [politico.com]

Hmm? Trump has been one of the biggest losers in the entire world, if not the biggest loser, over and over and over. That quote makes it sound like a first.

I laughed out loud when I read that.

You know, the networks really are biased against Trump, as they should be.

Quibble - the networks have bias, but anti-Trump is a side-effect of the actual biases, rather than the bias itself.

Oh and since we're looking at at least a 4, maybe closer to or even over 5 million vote difference in the popular vote, I don't want to hear one goddamn ******* peep from the Trumpers (or the Fence Sitters or the Bernie-Bro Progressives) about this being a "close" election even if he doesn't gain one single more electoral vote (which he near certainly will anyway.)

It's probably worth poking towards California only being at about 2/3 done with counting on that front.

The Biden Presidency
Actually, I think it will be really boring.

We can only hope. Good governance generally is quite boring.

So, after 8 years of 'Obama is not an american', you'll now get at least four years of 'Biden is an illegal president'?
Or is this going to go full anti-pope with Trump setting up an alternative government in one of his hotels?

It'll go where ever Fox thinks that it can make the most money and generate the most support for the Republican Party. With McConnell almost certainly still in a position of wildly excessive power, blocking most of the things that will actually help the country, expect the blame on Democrats for not doing things to be hard and continuous.

Here's a scary headline from over at townhall.com:

A Dark Moment for Democracy Affirms the Need for the Second Amendment

I didn't bother to read the article. It would almost certainly be both scary and stupid, but one wonders how someone who is capable of writing can somehow manage to write that.

Much of propaganda is false, after all. Right-wing propaganda has quite the history of being dangerously false, on top of that.

They aren't. USA is still rotting, you just voted to delay this process somewhat.

Sadly, this is entirely fair, especially with McConnell still in power.

Who are all the members of Trump's cabinet?

Does it even really matter? You may as well just call it a bunch of spineless sycophants. Still, the list seems to be found here.

Trump Tweets

THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!

These were all actors hired by George Soros.

After all, we've been told by the Trump campaign that only he was popular enough to have large crowds at his rallies. So how can all these people show up to celebrate Biden's win?

I had a funny turn at work a few weeks ago, went to hospital and my blood pressure was 179 over 113.

I am now on blood pressure meds and it's come down drastically, thank goodness.

I can't say what mine has been. Probably 230 over 145.

It's all just a bunch of numbers to me, but then I looked it up and it said if your blood pressure reaches 180, drop everything and go to hospital immediately.

To be fair, Trump was still President at that point.

Libertarians: “Makes zero difference to us. These men both are both unprincipled, morally compromised, big government loving authoritarians. If Biden wins, if Trump wins, end result will be the same.”

And both parties ignored Libertarians, even though they got more than enough votes to sway the election either way. I saw a great comment about that too.

You are not entitled to Libertarian votes

Anybody that believes that is a certifiable idiot.
