2020 Presidential Election part 2

Lol

Our countries national election is roughly the size of South Carolina!

The only reason why Trump would claim there is massive voter fraud when by all accounts he is doing way better than expected is because he expects GOP Voter Fraud to come to light.
The more Dems and the Media protest that everything is fair&square, the harder it will be to talk about actual fraud when it turns out that, say, deJoy has actually hidden tons of mail-in votes in critical states.

No they haven’t. Only 71% of the votes have been counted as of this moment according to NYT. Biden is merely projected to win right now, not confirmed.

It seems you are confusing the media calling a State with the State actually being done with counting.

WRT this, they talked about this on the Opening Arguments podcast yesterday. They say that the way that this works is that the company that supplies this information to the media conducts exit polls and compares that with their pre-voting polls. The more closely the two numbers match, the more confidence there is in the initial predictions. And the higher that confidence level is, the lower a percentage of the votes counted a state's results can be called.

WI numbers are going Biden's way now with the mail-ins being counted. He's caught up the deficit and it's just flipped to blue with 49.4% to 49.1%. Hopeful signs that the polling was closer than it previously seemed to be. Is showings as 95% in, hopefully that lead will extend.

He has been making the same claims for months. The same as he has been claiming that the media is colluding with the Democrats for years. And he complained that the debates weren't fair. If the only reason you can think of for him making these claims depends on how he is doing in the results that have come out in the past few hours... I think you are reasoning backwards from conclusions.

I hope Biden winds, but I am now convinced the US has had it as a nation. We are just too far apart in way we view things.

Well I was wrong about a blue landslide :(

(as an aside from viewing US politics from afar it still amazes me that the entire map hasn't flipped blue, but I digress)

Trump is apparently very good at getting turkeys to vote for Christmas, but... he'll still likely lose. Trumps fake victory pronouncements notwithstanding.

Biden needs 2 of Michigan Wisconsin Pennsylvania and Arizona and Fox has called Arizona already and 2 of the other three look increasingly unlikely to fall for Trump.

So not the blowout it should have been, but at this point I'll take a Biden POTUS however he gets there.

How could the polls be this wrong again?

I have been saying for ages that old school polling techniques are useless in the context of modern targeted campaigning techniques. The gains you get using these methods are likely to be concentrated in pockets and having "representative" samples won't necessarily pick them up.

We may have to give up on this kind of polling and go back to finding out election results when the election is held.

Normally I'd dismiss this as alarmist, but frankly I'm alarmed that only a single mainstream Republican has bothered to roundly reject trump's call to stop the count (I'm going to assume that's what he meant).

And it's not helped when I see reactions like this:

Biden has drawn ahead in Wisconsin. Maybe Michigan will go the same way. These two were the ones I thought most likely to go to Trump, but they may yet slip through his fingers.

Biden now has a narrow lead in Wisconsin.

....and yet he had a 7-10 point lead in the polls.

How the **** did the polls get it so wrong yet again ?

Was this yet another case of an uninspiring Democratic Party candidate failing to get anyone other than the party faithful out to vote so that even though 55% of people preferred him to President Trump, a far greater proportion of President Trump's supporters actually bothered to turn out to vote.

Doubt it

Been around a few hundred years now and still kind of works.

One orange weirdo can't do that much damage in four more years if he wins.

I wouldn't go that far.

The US is still a very young nation and all nations everywhere are having a lot of trouble figuring out the "social media problem" i.e. how to police misinformation without trampling on freedom of speech.

How exactly do you convince people that accurate news has a value, you tend to get what you pay for and if your news source is a friend of a friends mother in laws dog walker then you might want to double check the veracity of what is being claimed...

The internet in general and by extension social media is the biggest most disruptive technology we will see in our lifetimes. It's going to take a while to figure out how to use it properly. Letting it amplify misinformation in the way that we have is not helping our society.

So yes the US has problems, so do lots of places, but I think it will figure them out.

Wisconsin

Biden's current lead is 13,975 votes, statewide. It all comes down to Brown County

President Trump currently leads Brown County by 14,269 votes 14.77% reporting.

President Trump won Brown County by 10.8% in 2016

Also Washington County. Only 75% reported, that's Trump area also.

Wouldn't the answer be to reduce the reach of federal power and let California be California, and let Wyoming be Wyoming?

Not for lack of trying though. AG Barr is very keen on applying his vision of a strong unitary executive theory, ie. that the president can do whatever he wants, subject only to the powers of impeachment and the ballot, and with both being pretty much irrelevant - as it appears unlikely for 2/3 of a republican controlled senate to vote in favour of impeachment - what's to stop him?
