The worst part is, none of the excuses from 2016 work this time. By 2020, we knew what he was like. We knew how fanatical the trumpkins were and how they would show up to vote in great numbers (turns out they were even more fanatical than we believed even after four years). We know the damage he has done.
The trumpkins of 2020 know what they're doing. Forgive them not, for they know what they do.

That's why I refuse to get my hopes up. Polls seem broken to me. If it's any consolation, if he gets a second term, I think his approval ratings could take a real dive.

No, he said that about Mexicans. Hispanics are not a monolith. Cuban-Americans in Miami don't see themselves as having anything in common with Latinx farmworkers. Trump is their hero for cutting back diplomacy and economic relations with Cuba.

For years any Cuban who made it to the U.S. was instantly legal, a far different experience from the Mexicans and Central Americans who managed to make it past the border. And Cubans are probably way more sensitive to "socialism" scare tactics than other Latinos. Apart from Cuban-Americans I don't expect him to do well with Latinos.

I didn't catch it earlier, but Trump really wants to stop counting in the states where he is ahead, but wants it to continue in the states where he is behind. He's not even pretending to be embracing some made-up principle.
