Freedom of speech?

That would largely be my prediction too, with some caveats.

First, Qanon is going to get extra weird. It's been a long, drawn-out promise that Trump was gonna ghost half of DC to Gitmo, and him potentially leaving office with nothing happening will be a major pivot point. I anticipate the "wait and see, Q will save us" approach changes into "the people are Q, take action" as the promise of a top-down purge becomes even more implausible.

I expect an electoral repudiation of Trumpism will make the extreme right extremely unhappy and belligerent, even more so than now. Rather than celebratory rallies, they will be seeking confrontation and vengeance. Messaging for the right will become simpler and more vicious when it's no longer their party at the helm of a failing state.

Even more so if it's a decisive Biden win. These people won't go quietly into the night, and the feeling they are losing control will spur more violence.

I think a lot of the belligerence or Trump supporters stems from not really believing they ever got in power, and getting drunk on it. When they presumably lose, I expect them to return to their more comfortable role of the mythical right-thinking good-ol-boys silent majority.

I've been saying this since '16: Trumpers are not political. They don't even understand politics, IMO. It's a social movement with a non-political figurehead (that stumbled unwittingly into the Oval Office, expecting to lose and claim that as proof that the game is rigged).

Qanons...I just can't get over their stamina. Would have never believed that they would persist beyond a week or so of it becoming obvious that it was a 4chan/LARP game run amok. These are our genuinely stupid people. and their name is Legion. If they will swallow this crap, they will literally swallow anything.

They'll have the supreme court. In a few years, we will likely see a number of states where abortion is criminal, gay rights are reduced, etc. Plus, new legislation from the Biden admin (say ACA expansion or other health care legislation) may get struck down.

Not if the Dems stack it.

The far-right extremist group Proud Boys now a regular fixture at Florida Republican rallies

Since the 2016 election, the far-right extremist group Proud Boys has typically been relegated to the wings of Florida politics. But ever since Trump ordered the self-described “Western Chauvinists” to “Stand down, and stand by” at the first presidential debate, the group has become increasingly visible, especially at recent Republican campaign rallies in Florida.

This is fine i'm sure.

Not if the Dems stack it.

Biden has suggested a commission to study the issue. :-| So I think a repeat of the recent typical cycle is likely: Repubs do something outrageous, Dems admonish them and wring their hands. Also Biden believes (against the evidence) that the country can be united, so will be loathe to do anything that bold.

Dems also worry "if we do X then the Republicans will do Y because we're being mean." History shows they'll to Y no matter what the Democrats do.

Serious question: their declared purpose is to street fight with antifa. Where else would you expect to find them hanging out? At the library?

I'd expect one of the two major political parties in the USA to denounce a white wing nationalist hate group... but I see your expectations are lower than mine.

I haven't seen any groups of AntiFa, armed or otherwise, at Dem rallies that I can recall.

I do believe they both have.

Nor should you expect to. Why would you expect anti-fascists at a Democrat rally?

You're making that mistake of thinking they are the same types of groups under different colored flags. They aren't. Antifa fights against neo-Nazi types, and goes where they find them. Proud Boys fight with antifa types, and go where they find them. Neither would be expected at a Dem rally. Both would be expected at a Republican event, because that's where neo-fascist groups tend to congregate.

I have humbly suggested previously that neo-fascist groups openly associating with a major political party is a very serious problem and that the Proud Boys may soon expand their list of targets for political beatings.

And I humbly concur (except that the pbs are not so much neo-fascist as a general hate club). Watch them, be ready, but don't jump the gun and say " I think they might get politically dangerous someday, so gun them down now, just to be safe".

First rule in shooting is to properly identify your target, right? "This guy may become a real threat in the future" is not a proper identification.

Seems a bit of a straw man given the OP of this whole thing was about some Proud Boy getting stuffed in the face by a single punch. Nobody is advocating preemptive execution.

Well one of them has said they were "very fine people", told them to "stand by", and encouraged them to turn up, armed, at polling stations to protect the ballot.

Oh boy, that's really telling them eh?

Can we provisionally assume that anything coming out of the POTUS's mouth has nothing to do with sane political discourse?

Yet he is the chosen leader of 40% of the public. You can not pretend he is irrelevant to public discourse.

Hyperbole, sure. Hardly a strawman when posters are cheering the dental reconstruction of a retreating guy who did squat, from a legal standpoint.

Surely you get my argument after all these posts, that my position is good guys staying on the good guy side of the law and nothing more?

Over half the public didn't even vote. The percentage of Republican voters is more like half that again, and many of them do not hang on Trump's every word, and just vote R on principle. Again, the threat is real but keep it in perspective.

His approval ratings seem to indicate otherwise. But sure they all mean nothing it is only antifa that is a threat, all those who are on the white supremacist side who kill are just mentally ill.

Why would Republicans denounce themselves?!

Thats a good point. My 71 year old father, who used to be a mainstream republican, was telling me how "Kamala" (yeah he mispronounces her name) was Antifa and if she wins (cause its really her thats running for pres), then he'll join the Proud Boys. That was among other things of which I left before calling my own dad a braindead brainwashed ******* idiot. I truly wish I was making this up to make a point on a forum :(

I guess, in reality, he is still a mainstream republican.
