2020 Presidential Election

Trump asked why the polls show him trailing: “I don’t know, I don’t understand it, I don’t believe them. I don’t believe the polls. Because we’ve never had this much support. They have a boat thing, they have 5,000 boats. They have thousands of trucks all over the country.”

This belongs in the "Trump has a mental illness thread" :D

Pelosi is questioning whether Trump is in an altered mental state right now and I have to agree.

9 out of 10 psychiatrists agree than when it comes to Trump's mental state "it's a boat thing".

I think one thing Trump has proven is that he's really bad at keeping people from getting Covid. If I was Biden I absolutely and very publicly say I wouldn't trust that this administration is capable of participating in an event where people are safe from getting infected.

Indeed. NY MAG has a blunt headline: "Trump Won’t Debate Unless There’s a Risk of Infecting Biden"

This made me curious enough to actually Google the number of trucks on the road in the USA. Apparently it's a whooping 400 000+.

Either way... I'm not sure if it's a mental illness thing, more like a Trump thing, spouting some sort of wild exaggeration that turns a boat parade into a yuge organised movement of Trump supporters with thousands of boats.

So... a mental illness thing? I'm leaning towards no. A "Trump is a lot like a six year old with a particularly vivid imagination" thing? Yup.

Looks like Stubby McBonespurs has started to turn on Barr and Pompeo...

From: CNN
Dialing in for his first interview since being hospitalized, President Donald Trump went on an hour-long ramble that devolved into vicious and sexist attacks on the Democrats running against him, desperate claims against old enemies and dangerous boasts about his own apparent recovery from coronavirus.
...
He listed three senior members of his administration who he said have displeased him, for different reasons. Some, such as FBI Director Christopher Wray, have irritated Trump for months. But his criticism of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was new. "I'm not happy about him, for that," Trump said of his top diplomat for not surfacing emails he says were deleted by his 2016 rival Hillary Clinton. He also went after Attorney General William Barr, who he said would go down in history as "a sad situation" if he doesn't prosecute Trump's political rivals.

In the interview he made other claims (which are pretty standard for Trump):
- Made questionable claims about no longer being infected by Covid
- Claimed Harris was a communist/monster who was going to allow criminals into the U.S.
- Biden wasn't mentally capable

*Scoffs* Please. Like Trump could play the fiddle.

Remember the Trump fiddling tweet?

I think we ought to see his retweet of that a lot more in the days before the election, but it's so hard to pick just one example of Trump being Trump that best summarizes the whole awful truth of our situation.

Also 538 understands that "Red State / Blue State" concept is inherently wrong.

Texas's urban population has been booming and Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and especially Austin are all blue.

All cities are blue, all rural areas are red with surprising consistency. There are no Blue States or Red States but islands of high population density blue floating in a sea of low population density red.

Very true.

That's why Gov. Abbot has declared that Houston's entire county is allowed just one ballot dropoff.

Well yeah that's the whole mythology that the modern image of the Electoral College is built around. They show us electoral maps, even in all but the most liberal of states, that show these huge swaths of red stretching from all four corners of the state to all four corners of the state with these little pinpricks of blue and go all "SEE! SEE! Why should those little pinpricks get to say how we live our lives!?" and completely ignore the fact that those little blue areas are where the goddamn people live.

Trump Tweets

Great honor to have the endorsement of the Governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez Garced. As I have always said, Donald J. Trump is the best thing to ever happen to the people of Puerto Rico. The drug manufacturers are now coming back. Biden ended that program!

Gotta love Pete Buttigieg on Fox. He's crushing it. He's just too damn quick for their hosts.

The most extreme one favouring President Trump has him winning 350/188 with only Washington, California, Illinois, Virginia, Delaware and half of New England breaking for Biden.

In that case, they have Trump taking New York?! Doesn't seem plausible to me.

Actually, that idea makes a good deal of sense.

Well, maybe not. There are constraints on what a candidate can do with leftover campaign money. For example, I don't think it can be used for personal expenses; defending himself from tax fraud charges for the years before he became president, for example, would not be allowed. That assumes that he obeys those laws - or someone forces him to - which probably a bad assumption.
