Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 24

I would not like to see the border opened. A friend of mine recently struggled with sending his daughter to a U.S. university where she has won a golf scholarship.

I wouldn't step foot in the U.S. right now.

Agreed. My wife was born in Portland OR and we have travelled regularly across the border in the past. Even she wants it to remain closed.

Donnie Deutsch makes an interesting point. Trump always does what's in the best interest of Trump. And by far and away, pulling out LBJ style is far preferable to a crushing defeat.

"Trump's going to cut and run" is a fantasy.

One he knows damn well that once he's no longer President a lot of his "protection" goes away.

Two I question how much of a win he will see "getting out" will be.

Playing devil's advocate here...

He's poised to be a huge loser -- electorally and in terms of being seen as a dimwitted loser/clown. Remember how humiliated he was when Obama roasted him? This is orders of magnitude worse. The election represents an existential threat to his fragile, narcassistic ego. Protecting his ego is of paramount importance.

And then there's his "brand". That too takes a huge hit if he suffers a crushing defeat.

Oooooorrr he thinks/knows he's rigged the system so well he's still gonna win or he doesn't intend to "go away" (not necessarily step down, but just not "go away") come November/January.

And again Trump spend so much time laying the framework for "The election is rigged!" he's gonna "win" whether he wins or loses.

Also Trump's 74 and even he can't be so deluged as to think he's gonna live forever. I wonder how long term any of his plans/thinking really are at this point. As you said he's all about his ego, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of person who gives a wheat penny about whatever legacy he lives after he's gone.

Clearly that's a typo but I rather like it!

Three, if he did, wouldn't Pence take over as POTUS, and be much harder to defeat in November than Trump?

Trump tweets

Somebody please tell Congressman Clyburn, who doesn’t have a clue, that the chart he put up indicating more CASES for the U.S. than Europe, is because we do MUCH MORE testing than any other country in the World. If we had no testing, or bad testing, we would show very few CASES..

.....Our massive testing capability, rather than being praised, is used by the Lamestream Media and their partner, the Do Nothing Radical Left Democrats, as a point of scorn. This testing, and what we have so quickly done, is used as a Fake News weapon. Sad!

Why does he keep repeating that as if it makes any sense?

WaPo: The U.S. Postal Service is experiencing backlogs of mail after a top Trump donor running the agency put in place new procedures, alarming postal workers who warn that the policies could undermine their ability to deliver ballots on time.

Rasmussen polls, the worst polling company, can't pull trump over the threshold!!
Biden 50%
Trump 48%

You missed the first shots of when he held the bible - it did have Holy Bible on it.... remember the shots of the crate holding the arc?
:p

It's not backward. I was wrong. Hold a book up in your right hand. If the front faces you, the spine faces the left as you look at it. In the picture, the spine faces right as Trump looks at it.

Oh well.

150,000 deaths, unemployment benefit expiring, and the worst economic quarter in 100 years. So Trump tweets something crazy to distract everyone. Go ahead and waste your time seriously analyzing it; you may as well study your navel.

I don't know why Obama didn't use this tactic more often.

He didn't need to.

All he had to do was wear a tan jacket. Or use the wrong kind of mustard.

Why does he keep repeating that as if it makes any sense?

We should all admire President Lincoln’s prescience.

President Trump keeps repeating that nonsense because “it is possible to fool some of the people all the time.“

Or perhaps President Trump keeps repeating that nonsense because he believes that he can “fool all of the people some of the time.”

Or perhaps he has simply fooled himself and his uncanny imitation of person with
Narcissistic Personality Disorder1 prevents him from even considering the possibility that maybe he might wrong.

(1) the best impersonation ever. In the history of the world even. No one has ever done a better impersonation of a person suffering from NPD.

I'm not sure I get this, but I'm going to take a guess.

Is this a reference to the Nazi symbol getting burned off on the crate for the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Actually I think Republicans are screwed either way.

Trump stays, moderates and never-trumpers vote fore Biden. He still has his hardcore base of always-republican, and the trump cultists but it's not enough to put them over.

Trump leaves, Pence takes over... Some never-trumpers (and maybe some moderates) return and you still have the always-republicans, but you lose many of the cultists, since pence would be seen as "just another politician". (They may not vote democrat, but they won't be as keen to get out and vote for pence.) Pence does not have the con-artist ability that trump has (I would call it charisma but that word just doesn't seem to describe the burning pile of rat feces that trump is) would have to defend his association with trump.

Plus, how would pence campaign? Keep Trump's policies and many moderates won't come back. Try to distance from trump, maybe reverse some policies, and trump cultists would rebel (plus trump himself might attack pence).

Apologies if this has been posted before ...

Politico, yesterday, “Trump revisits his playbook for disastrous news: An explosive spectacle“, link

By now the tactic is well known, well understood, and increasingly called out as it unfolds. Trump will continue to do this, of course, and I’m not sure there’s really much more that can be done to respond better.
