So how long will it take until Florida is completely cut off from the world?

A couple little things to poke at.

Federalist Society bigwig says Trump's election-delay tweet is grounds for immediate impeachment

Jake Tapper's summation is as follows -

The co-founder of the Federalist Society, who voted for Trump and opposed both the Mueller probe and Ukraine impeachment, says the president’s tweet about delaying the election is grounds for impeachment

The statement itself is...

“I have voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including voting for Donald Trump in 2016. I wrote op-eds and a law review article protesting what I believe was an unconstitutional investigation by Robert Mueller. I also wrote an op-ed opposing President Trump’s impeachment.

“But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.”

My reaction to that? **** you and your Federalist Society.

It's good that you're admitting the blatantly obvious, but it's so pathetically late in the game and the damage that you, your organization, and the rest of those you pushed to enable that monster have caused is so immense that you're going to need to do a lot more than spout some empty words for the sake of saving face and distancing yourself from the disasters that you enabled.

Elsewhere, a GOP congressman is getting something of a punishment for corruption.

Republican Rep. David Schweikert agreed to pay a $50,000 fine, accept a formal reprimand, and admit to 11 different violations of congressional rules and campaign finance laws in a deal with the bipartisan House Ethics Committee to conclude its two-year-long investigation of the congressman. But while the matter may now officially be closed, Schweikert's already uncertain political future is now only more endangered.

The Ethics Committee's wide-ranging findings fell into four categories: (1) "campaign finance violations and reporting errors"; (2) spending government money to support Schweikert's political campaigns; (3) pressuring government staff to perform campaign work; and (4) Schweikert's "lack of candor and due diligence in the course of the investigation."

Oh, and...

Republicans may be trying to hide bad poll numbers from Trump by simply not asking about him

The Congressional Leadership Fund has once again released an internal poll of a competitive House race showing the Republican candidate leading but—somehow, mysteriously—has failed to include any information on the presidential contest.

<snip>

CLF, which is the largest Republican player in House races, has now done the same thing in four polls in just the last week-and-a-half.

Pretty much every recent House poll from Democrats, by contrast, has trumpeted leads for Joe Biden, even in districts Trump won four years ago. For the Congressional Leadership Fund, however, the prospect of embarrassing Dear Leader with fugly polling data is one that must be avoided at all costs. In fact, that overriding directive is so strong, it’s possible that CLF isn't hiding anything: Republican operative Liam Donovan insists that some GOP pollsters really aren't testing presidential matchups when they go into the field, saying, "You don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to."

He is too unfocused and stupid to stage a coup - but if he thinks he will lose, he will use all his energy to delegitimise and trash the election, and there will be plenty of Republicans that will go along. That will be a handy platform for the party to undermine and stonewall the new administration at every turn. But that's only par for the course. The real problem will be his know-nothing low information base who will take his ravings seriously. Millions of them will probably end up believing that the election was stolen. So, no coup, but a huge blow against the American democracy anyway. Kremlin will applaud, best roubles ever spent.

One minor quibble with that -- The PDJT didn't hold the Bible upside-down. However, he did hold it like he'd never actually held a book before. More like... a box of cereal.

Kudos for remembering it correctly. I didn't. It was backward to the cameras.

Actually, it wasn't! I looked very closely at an HD presentation when the question first came up. The unusual thing about that particular volume was that there was no title on the cover, hence the confusion. However, it was on the spine, and a quick glimpse of it showed that everything was in the proper position. If there had been anything on the front book cover, it would have shown to the camera. I.E., he was showing what was the front cover to the camera, properly right-side-up. It just happened that there was nothing on it!

We are going to WIN the 2020 Election, BIG! #MAGA

Must know Election results on the night of the Election, not days, months, or even years later!

Glad I was able to get the very dishonest LameStream Media to finally start talking about the RISKS to our Democracy from dangerous Universal Mail-In-Voting (not Absentee Voting, which I totally support!).

Is anyone ever going to ask him to explain the difference?

It is probably worth a reminder that Trump *is* swayed by his advisors. Miller, for example, I can easily see working to try to make a coup happen and manipulating Trump into thinking that it's a better option than going to jail or worse once Trump's out of office.

Yeah... Personally, I think that every other Bible that I've seen has very clear identification on the front cover (and having been raised as a Christian, that's a lot of different Bibles), though, so it was rather jarring to see a blank covered book being presented as a Bible, and, given that, my immediate assumption was that he was probably holding it upside down. It was surprising to me when it seemed to end up with him holding it correctly, but... it also just further confirmed that he fairly certainly doesn't know or actually care about Christian cultural things so much that he thoroughly screwed up the photo op, even before getting to how blasphemous the surrounding context made it. "That doesn't look like a Bible in the first place" is fairly certainly not a good first impression to leave the viewers of the picture, after all.

I supsect it is an attempt to switch attention away from the Virus...say something outrageous and it dominates the news cycle.
Ptoblem for Donnie is that he tweets often hurts him more then evem the cirus news does.

Maybe so, but the Bountygate has now been effectively buried. I hope someone digs up the corpse for display in October.

The next time, he should let his daughter hold it as if she loves it just as much as a can of beans.

Or maybe there is little desire to cross the border into a disease racked country.

Very few Canadians are in favour (note Canadian spelling) of reopening the Canada-USA border.

You missed the first shots of when he held the bible - it did have Holy Bible on it.... remember the shots of the crate holding the arc?

There's enough Republicans in the Senate right now to initiate impeachment proceedings if that's what the Federalist Society wants from them. I'm sure the Congress will not stand in the way.

I would not like to see the border opened. A friend of mine recently struggled with sending his daughter to a U.S. university where she has won a golf scholarship.

I wouldn't step foot in the U.S. right now.
