Oops.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper abruptly reversed a decision to order active-duty troops home from the national capital region on Wednesday, capping a roller-coaster eight hours that have raised new questions about whether the beleaguered Pentagon chief will keep his job. Esper irked the White House Wednesday morning when he appeared in front of cameras to proclaim his opposition to deploying active-duty troops to respond to protests around the country...Earlier in the day, Esper ordered 200 active-duty soldiers from the 82nd Airborne's immediate response force — brought to the national capital region to deal with unrest if needed — to return to their home base after two days of more peaceful demonstrations in D.C. But Esper abruptly overturned the decision just hours later, after a meeting at the White House and other internal Pentagon discussions, according to The Associated Press. Politico story link

Hey he stood up to trump for a couple hours. That's something, anyway, right?

I'm willing to cut a military guy a little slack when he's realized he'd been used and is trying to backpedal. The real test will come when Trump gives him a public loyalty test to clear an area so he can get a hamberder or something trivial like that. Which Trump WILL do, and soon, that's how tinpot dictators work.
Oops.

Okay, NOW you can call him a lickspittle.

Just saw footage of the big protest in Boise Idaho.
Boise, just about the whitest city in America with a 1.5% Afro America population
SOmethning huge is going on here when you have big protest in Boise.
Nice city with beautiful Scenary, but not exactly a hotbed of activism.

One of my best friends is a 62 year old Black man from Boise. I once asked him what it was like growing up there in the 60's. He said, "It was fine. I lived in the Black neighborhood. Us and the next door neighbors". :D

It appears that the Trump supporters are still very silent on this thread for the last few days. I wonder why...

I wish I could read the minds of Trump voters, or people who would consider voting for him, to see how this played.
Not necessary. A reasonable read of the collective conservative mind can be had by going to various conservative sites and see how they're handling this. The American Conservative reflects moderate Republicans and is worth looking at (it's the only conservative site I have bookmarked). Or VERY conservative but not quite bat-crap crazy is Townhall. Of course the biggest conservative aggregator is DrudgeReport. I went to all three and none have the picture from Trump's photo-op. That says A LOT to me, mostly that they know it was a loser. You could go to loony-tunes sites like Breitbart but I refuse to go there and even refuse to provide a link.

Serious question: Can TV stations refuse to run political ads from major candidates? That seems like a logical possibility if allowed

ETA: Especially in light of the multitude of attacks on journalists and Trump still spewing "FAKE NEWS!".

Broadcast TV must give equal time but they can and have refuse to air specific ad. Cable has no such requirement.

All four officers in the Floyd death have been charged with "Murder - 2nd Degree - Without Intent - While Committing a Felony" They upgraded the charge because the 3rd Degree Murder charge was for murder without a specific victim. As explained by a former prosecutor on CNN, an example is shooting into a crowd or driving down the wrong side of the street. That would not apply in this case as Floyd was the intended object of the actions by Chauvin and the other 3 officers.

I think this should lay to rest the "intent" discussion.

I thought Chauvin has been upgraded to 2nd degree, the other three have now been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Great that all four are now charged.

Let's just note that they are required to sell equal advertising time on the same terms to all. As the Wiki link notes, this is not the same as the now-defunct Fairness Doctrine, which used to apply to news and commentary.

If he weighs 244 I'm a ******* giraffe.

While I get that a lot of people lie about their weight and their height, his do display his characteristic disdain for the people he's lying to. That's one reason his lie is so absurd.

That said, people's weight can be very difficult to judge. I'm six foot and I have a habit of surprising nurses when they take my weight, as I currently weigh 280 lbs but appear to weigh much less. Trump's true weight might surprise you.

The 82nd should have waited until June 6 and parachuted in. Historically, that’s a winning plan.

Well I laughed.
