Pelosi fat shamed the president.

“He’s our president, and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists,” Pelosi said on CNN in a now-viral clip, “especially in his age group, and in his, shall we say, weight group: ‘Morbidly obese,’ they say.”

CNN

How is that fat shaming? It's a fact isn't it? He is elderly, obese and male - they all increase his risk that if he gets the disease it will be a serious illness and also death is much more likely.

Exactly, it's like saying he is 🍊 totally true.

There's no doubt that Pelosi was goading Trump with the comment that he's morbidly obese. It was unnecessary and I don't know if he really counts as morbidly obese or merely obese.

Whether you think it's good for the Speaker to try to get under the President's skin or not, it's a bit silly to pretend she wasn't doing so. One could comment on unspecified health conditions, for instance, without mentioning that a vain man is morbidly obese. This was purposefully insulting.

I tend to think that the comment was a bit undignified and she shouldn't be following Trump's lead in this way, even to this modest degree. But I'm not at all up in arms about it. I somewhat regret that she made this so personal.

To be sure, I also somewhat enjoy imagining Trump stewing over this remark.

So this happened in Oregon today:
Oregon governor’s coronavirus restrictions on religious gatherings, other emergency orders ‘null and void,’ judge rules

Even though this is about religious gatherings, it pretty much nullifies all restrictions based on the notion that an emergency order was only good for 28 days. I have no idea where this will go.

The state Supreme Court stepped in and kept the restrictions in place, for now.

The Oregon Supreme Court late Monday halted a rural judge's order from earlier in the day that tossed out statewide coronavirus restrictions imposed by Democratic Gov. Kate Brown. Baker County Circuit Judge Matthew Shirtcliff had ruled that Brown erred by not seeking the Legislature's approval to extend the stay-at-home orders beyond a 28-day limit.

logical fallacy bingo!

HCQ is being used around the World as a treatment for Covid-19.
Did you meant to make an argument for HCQ? Because you didn't. How would you feel about such an argument as evidence for things that you don't support?

  • Dowsing is being used around the world to find water in the ground.
  • Islamic teachings are being used around the world to justify terrorism and oppression of women.
  • Anti-vaxxers around the world are refusing vaccines for fear of autism.
  • Crop circles around the world are cited for evidence of alien visitation.

HCQ is a very old and safe drug, it has been around and has been used to treat several medical issues for over 50 years.

Divining Rods are a very old and very safe system to find water. They have been used to find water for hundreds of years.
Islam is a very old and respected religion. It has been around and has been used to worship Allah for over 1300 years.

One of the benefits of HCQ is its anti-inflammatory properties. Inflamed lung tissue is by far the greatest danger of a Covid-19 infection. If you can't breathe nothing else matters.
You are not a doctor so spare us your uneducated opinion here. Point to a peer-reviewed study of this drug being used to help COVID-19 patients if you want to make a point.

I wonder how many Trumpanzees are eating poop just because the experts are saying that doing so is high risk for catching Covid-19...

I doubt Trump is actually taking HCQ because he is a liar and how it came out sounded much like a toddler's justification for it's safety.

If he is "taking" it because he demanded his doctor to give it to him, it could very well just be sugar pills.

If his doctor is giving him the actual drug, I hope Trump suffers the consequences.

HCQ is being used around the World as a treatment for Covid-19.

Homeopathic “medicine” is used around the world for many things as well, this doesn’t make it a viable treatment.

HCQ is about as effective as homeopathy and is far more dangerous. Even when prescribed and administered properly there can be side effects and correct dosage is sensitive enough physicians not completely familiar with it can easily err.

Is one required to be a medical Doctor to read about a drug and its uses?

Nobody is saying you should take anything, by all means feel free to do nothing if you become infected with Covid-19, it's your right.

FYI this is a politics thread, the medical thread is in another section. Try to keep up.

And new Covid-19 vaccines are being tested now. Any thoughts of the possible side effects of an unknown vaccine compared to those of an FDA approved medication like HCQ? Or should they stop testing because of the potential side effects of the vaccines?

Chris B. :D

And new Covid-19 vaccines are being tested now.

The operative word being tested. They are not being prescribed as a treatment.

Any thoughts of the possible side effects of an unknown vaccine

My fear is that Trump sees a report on once of these vaccine candidate on Faux New and decided to push out an untested vaccine in the run-up to the election only for it to turn out to do more harm than good. Not only would this kill people and set back progress on dealing with the virus it would give the anti-vaxers compelling ammunition for decades to come, killing even more people.

How is that fat shaming? It's a fact isn't it?

He's obese, but I don't think I've seen any evidence that he's morbidly obese. As for "fat shaming", I think the point is a bit of Alinsky rule 4.

HCQ is being used around the World as a treatment for Covid-19. Personally I don't believe President Trump came up with the treatment plan that uses HCQ for Covid-19. I believe he relayed this information to the general public to let everyone know what other Countries were using to treat Covid-19 patients. You may believe whatever the media wants you to believe.

That seems to be your problem. You may choose to believe the words of a failed business man with no medical training. I will trust in the words and studies of medical professionals.

Those professionals say that studies show that the drug had no benefit when used to fight Covid-19, and may in fact have adverse effects and a greater mortality rate.

If different studies show that the drug nay be of use, then great! I can be convinced. But I won't 'believe' in it.

Inflamed lung tissue is by far the greatest danger of a Covid-19 infection. If you can't breathe nothing else matters.

If you choose to not take HCQ that's fine of course but don't try to reframe HCQ as an extremely dangerous drug. It's not.
Chris B.

And yet current studies show that it does not help, and may even increase the mortality rate of Covid-19 sufferers. Safe for condition A, does not mean safe for condition B. Feel free to believe whatever the media of your choice tells you though.

From your link: "This research also has not yet been peer-reviewed or published in a medical journal."

CNN doesn't want you to take HCQ, without any proven scientific evidence.
This is an apple?

HCQ is an older proven drug that treats many different disorders that cause inflammation in the body.........Covid-19 causes inflammation of lung tissue to the point the patient has to be put on a respirator to breathe.......That's what kills you, no air can get in.
.....

1/ None of the reports appears to be based on controlled, double-blind studies.
2/ CNN doesn't have an opinion. It has reported the announced results of a large-scale medical investigation.
3/ This stuff is not like taking vitamin C. It has known, potentially deadly negative side-effects. It has been used in hospital settings on desperately sick patients, often without helping them. The idea of taking it preventively by someone who isn't sick is just crazy. It would be like taking penicillin every day even if you didn't have an infection.

“In general if hydroxychloroquine really, really worked, and it was a magic drug for COVID-19, we would know it by now,” says Dr. David Sullivan, professor of microbiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an infectious disease physician at the university’s malaria research institute. “Right now we have no clinical evidence that it works.”

No. But you were doing more than that.

And since you're not a medical Doctor, your opinion on the topic is generally worthless.

Nobody is saying you should take anything, .

Well, that's a lie.

Plenty of people are saying you should take hydroxychloroquine, including Trump.

by all means feel free to do nothing if you become infected with Covid-19, it's your right.

You see, the problem is the opposite - that it's not necessarily your right to take any drug you want for an illness just because some ******* told you that you should.

The irony.... :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
