My guess would be it's a numbers game. If you look at the types of employment, restaurants and personal service businesses probably have the most employees, probably even more than construction. There are more than 100,000 plus nail salons and 600,000 restaurants. It's gotta be by far the biggest number of non-essential employees that are still staying home. Grocery / convenience / liquor stores, gas stations, car service, even pet stores have been open for this whole time.

There are a lot of news reports out there about Mike Pence self-isolating "over the weekend" after one of his aides, Katie Miller, tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. A Pence spokesperson has issued a denial. This is from Forbes:

Mike Pence has been forced to deny that he is self-isolating and confirmed he is returning to work on Monday. This comes after one of his aides and another White House staffer tested positive for the virus and prompted concerns that the virus is spreading through the nation’s top ranks. In a statement from spokesman Devin O’Malley, Pence’s office said he “will continue to follow the advice of the White House Medical Unit and is not in quarantine. Additionally, Vice President Pence has tested negative every single day and plans to be at the White House tomorrow.” Link

First, as has been widely discussed, Pence is NOT following the White House guidelines.

In late April, Pence raised eyebrows after being the only official to tour a Mayo Clinic facility in Minnesota without wearing a face mask as required by the clinic, in violation of his administration’s guidelines.

Why does his spokesperson feel it's necessary to issue a denial Pence self-isolated over the weekend? Pence probably should have been self-isolating, shouldn't he? It is not clear how closely he'd been in contact with Miller last week. That seems to be a state secret. Secondly, Pence's aide, Katie Miller, had gone to work at the White House last Thursday despite having developed corona-like symptoms. Apparently she felt so ill by midday that she was tested and then forced to go home. These people are just plain dumb.

Third, on some of the Sunday news shows various people observed, it is not at all surprising that the virus has reached the White House. News coverage makes it clear most of the officials -- including trump and Pence -- don't wear face masks and don't always practice social distancing. Pence's spokesperson emphasized that Pence has been tested "every single day" and has always tested negative. They act like being tested is a cure.

Pence’s statement follows a sequence of coronavirus scares and cases in his close circle. Last week, Pence’s aide Katie Miller tested positive for coronavirus, days after one of Trump’s unnamed valet’s, who comes into close contact with the first family, also tested positive.
