The Trump Presidency: Part 21

This article outlines how the disinfectant thing is only the latest in a long line of moronic statements from Trump, and goes in to why it's actually not funny.

I've wondered about that. Trump's said some monumentally stupid things about ever week for the past three years. Why does this one get so much attention? Is it because it is damaging at an individual, personal level rather than at a broader, more nebulous level?

When will all of the “reporters” who have received Noble Prizes for their work on Russia, Russia, Russia, only to have been proven totally wrong (and, in fact, it was the other side who committed the crimes), be turning back their cherished “Nobles” so that they can be given....

....to the REAL REPORTERS & JOURNALISTS who got it right. I can give the Committee a very comprehensive list. When will the Noble Committee DEMAND the Prizes back, especially since they were gotten under fraud? The reporters and Lamestream Media knew the truth all along....

....Lawsuits should be brought against all, including the Fake News Organizations, to rectify this terrible injustice. For all of the great lawyers out there, do we have any takers? When will the Noble Committee Act? Better be fast!

Gawd save our country!

No, he meant exactly what he said. While I'm sure he would expect doctors to "medicine it up," he was literally suggesting flushing disinfectant through people's systems. He suggested this because he is stupid and ignorant.

Oh, sure, most of us here know that. I was pointing out that, for his supporters, there was a very easy explanation for his stupidity that they could have trotted out. It's just plausible enough that a few fence sitters might have believed it, and the rest of us would have moved on.

But of course they couldn't just take the easy out, because that would require Trump, and his supporters, to admit that he made an error, however slight. And as we've seen, that's simply impossible for the vast majority of them. Trump must be right, all the time. So they're forced to come up with ridiculous "explanations" that just make things worse.

I'd almost feel sorry for them if they were such complete **** bags.

Does anybody get the meaning of what a so-called Noble (not Nobel) Prize is, especially as it pertains to Reporters and Journalists? Noble is defined as, “having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.” Does sarcasm ever work?

Aww, the big baby has learned a new word.

The answer to Trump's question is pretty much, "no". Not when it's written, instead of spoken. Not when it comes from a source where it's generally not expected. Not when it was recently used as a defense where it made no sense.

How many of us have tried to use sarcasm on these boards only to have our messages taken seriously. Maybe if Trump had included a  smiley.

I actually went back and read the entire "Noble" tweet. It is often edited in press stories. It's conceivable he was actually telling the truth, i.e. it was meant to be sarcastic. In one of the references, he put "Nobles" in quotes. I could imagine a context where it was a deliberate pun on "Nobel". I could imagine a conversation mocking reporters by describing a fictitious award that they give each other for being so noble.

Oh, well, Mr. President. In the event you were attempting sarcasm, it serves you right that it failed. It's beneath the dignity of the office anyway. And, if you weren't, then you're just an idiot.

ETA: I don't know if it is easy to do, but is it possible to look up whether @realDonaldTrump has ever in the past tweeted about Nobel prizes, spelled correctly or otherwise?

It's easy to do, but I can't log in right now.

But I'm sure he mentioned the Nobel Peace Prize a year or two ago?

I can't find anything he wrote using the word Nobel but he certainly complained about not getting one in 2019 at a rally.

Trump complained at the rally about the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded back in October to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed "for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea,” according to the Nobel Committee.

But Trump claimed that he was the one who actually saved the country.

“I'm going to tell you about the Nobel Peace Prize," he said. "I'll tell you about that. I made a deal, I saved a country and I just heard that the head of that country is now getting the Nobel Peace Prize for saving the country. I said, 'What, did I have something do with it?' Yeah, but you know, that's the way it is. As long as we know, that's all that matters. I saved a big war, I saved a couple of ‘em.”

ETA: Trump was actually confusing the accord between Ethiopia and Eritrea with which he had little to nothing to do with and a dispute between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan over the building of a dam on the Nile River which he was involved. What a maroon!

 Have I missed something? Shakespeare's birthday is usually celebrated on St. George's day, 23rd April. He was baptised on 26th, so was unlikely to have been born on that day.
Yes we only know his baptism date, his birth was probably a few days earlier but we don't know exactly when, so the 26th is when his birth is often marked (e.g. on Classic FM, which is where I heard this yesterday). But acknowledging that would have ruined the joke, so I ignored it.

Even scarier if he actually believes that anyone will buy this crap. His excuses for his prior stupidities have become ever more inane.

What is truly scary is that he would likely be right. This sort of thing is trivial for his supporters to accept without question. They've swallowed far bigger whoppers in the past without choking.

I believe, with a few exceptions, apps use a common keyboard subroutine provided by the OS. In fact, what gets autocorrected or not can be influenced by your own keyboard use (the phone can learn where you think a letter is and adapt). What it corrects to or suggests is based on your own language style.

One can argue the utility or efficacy of these features, but my point is: it makes other people "reproducing the error" very difficult, too many wild variables at play.

It's similar to people complaining about "all these ads about x" online and tons of people replying back they've never heard of it.

I'm IT ignorant although both my husband and daughter are IT/computer engineers so I cannot argue either for or against your post. But if what you say is correct, and I'll assume it is, it still shows that Trump doesn't bother to proofread before sending. You'd think he'd learn after all his covfefe moments.

DO jumped for the wrong knee-jerk excuse this time.

Turns out Trump is going with "I meant to write it just like that the whole time.".

The classic "I did that on purpose." excuse. Wrapped up in "Just jokin'."

AKA the Pee-Wee Herman excuse. Although in truth, I can see him barging into Comet Pizzaria and demanding to see the basement, only to be laughed out when he's told that there's no basement there. A smarter person would simply say "Yeah, I got it wrong", or blame autocorrect or something. Hell, I misspell words all the time, as do most people here. But Dolt 45 is a particularly stupid malignant narcissist, so he responds like a drunk and rabid animal.

At present I can think of one good thing to come out of the trump presidency, when it's all over and done with: It will provide decades and decades of work for presidential historians attempting to untangle and explain the mess that is trump's Twitter usage.

From his habit of deleting tweets that backfire (presumably in spite of the Presidential Records Act), his curious retweeting of accounts of dubious origin (just the other day he retweeted an attack from an account used by the political wing of Mojahedin-e Khalq, an Iranian dissident cult), to his decision to block users who attack him and the legal ramifications thereof.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being equivalent of FDR's Works Programme of the 1930's in terms of size...

This is to be expected from a paper that repeatedly publishes false headlines about @realDonaldTrump by a 25-to-1 margin. Thank you @newsbusters for exposing this Downwards arrow

Three failed coup attempts:

1 - Russia Collusion hoax during campaign
2 - Mueller's sham

Do you really think these lunatics wouldn't inflate the mortality rates by underreporting the infection rates in an attempt to steal the election?

Once again, Nancy Pelosi is lying about her needless delay.
She stood in front of her fancy refrigerator and congratulated Senate Dems for blocking aid to #smallbiz.
It was inexcusable and Americans know it!
