The Trump Presidency: Part 21

In fact, at the moment, the two sides cannot agree on the terms of the bill being negotiated. Does that mean the Dems are blocking the bill?

Also note your wording: "blocking the deal". If they can't agree on a deal then saying one side is blocking it is just using biased wording to benefit one side. This doesn't seem to bother you ... or maybe you don't even recognize the biased language.

I thought Trump was an idiot because he could force the country to reopen because of the constitution?

No, Trump was an idiot because he *thought* he could do something because of the constitution that wasn't, in fact, in the constitution. Get your thoughts straight.

With all the grounded flights and ghosted airports, great time for POTUS to rebuild crumbling airports like La Guardia and put folks to work with infrastructure bill (just don't let Pelosi pork it up!)
The hell? La Guardia is very close to completion of a multi-year, near-total rebuilding project.

The "cupboards were bare" comment is doubly stupid because, even if it's true, the cupboards still being bare now is on the guy who's been POTUS for over three years.

Plus Congress has to appropriate funds to acquire supplies needing to be restocked.

President Trump was able to divert funding appropriated to the military for his wall (which is so long and tall and glorious). I bet he tried to do the same for pandemic preparedness but Democrats blocked him because they want to crash the economy and imperil American lives even more than they want open borders. Same thing, really.

To continue that thought, efforts to block such, of course, can fairly inevitably be traced back to Republicans, of course. Tea Partiers, in particular, are at fault for any bare shelves that Trump could possibly complain about from Obama's Presidency.

But it was also because she was a sexual assault investigator with the NAACP - both protecting black men from false accusations, and going after white men who, until then, were allowed to rape and assault black women with impunity.

Have I read that correctly - Rosa Parks was a sexual assault investigator? Where did you find that out - the Wikipedia page for her makes no mention of that, stating she was a secretary of a local branch of the NAACP.

The modern Republican definition of "negotiate" is "give us everything that we want, with a smile". By that definition, the Democrats are refusing to negotiate.

Or get your trust fund to buy it and claim the tax back as a work expense!

There is no point discussing this. One screen, two movies.

Let's talk masks again. Masks are in our future. We need lots of masks.

I'm part of an organization for whom cosplay is a way of life, so everyone I know owns at least one sewing machine. (Our household has three.) I'm seeing articles here and there about people making masks at home. Some of those articles are "how to" pieces for making a personal mask. Others are about people who have volunteered there time to make lots of masks to be donated. One friend of ours, who makes her living making costumes, has actually shifted to commercial production of masks. By "commercial production", I don't mean a factory. I mean she spends her day at a sewing machine, sewing masks.

I would love to see the President actually encourage that sort of thing. Give a shout out to volunteers or independent "small businesses", like my friend who sews masks all day. I don't know if it's conceivable to buy fabric and give it to people, or if there is some way to compensate people, but even if it is just, "Please make masks for yourself, or your family and friends. Here's some instructions....." that would help with a mask shortage.

Some people might have issues with the quality of home produced masks. However, some people actually have the ability to produce face shields at home, or perhaps in an idle business machine shop, or a school workshop. Those might be more effective. They are certainly easier to inspect and verify that they are made correctly.

We'll never see anything like that, though. It's not Trump's style. For all his populist style, he really only deals with businesses. Moreover, he never, ever, asks for sacrifice. He's more into giveaways.

Am I getting this right? The president of the US makes advertisements for some people's books? (I know he does this often). How can his proponents defend even that?
