The Trump Presidency: Part 21

I would dispute that you can simply change the healthcare system in that way without changing the culture and a lot else besides, both as a necessary condition of being able to make such a change, and a consequence of having made it. To the extent that the success of the US has some relationship to individualism, self reliance, etc...
Yes, no other countries have individualism or self-reliance. But then, neither does the USA, much as you think you do.

UHC seems to me like a step in the opposite direction towards a more paternalistic, European way of doing things. Maybe it's worth it regardless?
Do you mean those paternalistic European countries with successful UHC like Australia and Canada? Perhaps if you viewed UHC not as "paternalism" but as a human right worthy of constitutional support, you might have a different view.

But this is a Trump thread. This should go to a different thread.

Since the media won’t show you this and since they’re trying really hard to rewrite history in yet another attempt to hurt @realDonaldTrump I suggest you watch this, send it to your friends, and RT.

“On February 19th there was a Democratic Debate, in Las Vegas. Three words weren’t said: Virus, CoronaVirus, or COVID19. NEVER came up!” @BretBaier

@FoxNews “Dems say President Trump is trying to open the United States Economy too quickly”, but, if I took even a little more time, they would loudly chant that I am moving too slowly. Just political talking points for them. For me it’s about lives & the future of our Country!

How does he know it's a fantastic book?

Melania reads it to him at bedtime after tucking him in and raising the side bar of his crib so he doesn't fall out. It puts him right to sleep. Then she turns off the light and goes to her own bedroom where she dreams about putting arsenic in his Coke.

!

Not in the Feb. 19th debate because the six candidates were asked specific question, none of which was about the coronavirus. However, it was a major topic in the Feb 26th debate.

Which, at the time was just a "hoax", of course.

The president thinks people can rewrite history when it is on a videotape that was already broadcast to the entire country.

Yep, that’s our president.

Nervous Nancy is an inherently “dumb” person. She wasted all of her time on the Impeachment Hoax. She will be overthrown, either by inside or out, just like her last time as “Speaker”. Wallace & @FoxNews are on a bad path, watch!

It is hilarious how he incorrectly tosses in a big word like "inherently" to try to sound smart. Meanwhile, he is still using quotation marks and capitalization like an inherently "dumb" person.

Fixed that for him.

"Speaker"? Why is Speaker in quotes? Is he saying she wasn't the Speaker? Talk about an inherently dumb person.

Today's presser: Trump attacking CNN again after reporter asked him if this was the time for him to be praising his own job. Trump said he was only standing up for all the people who were doing such a great job and then went after the reporter and CNN as fake news, etc.

"Nothings about me." (I know, I just about choked, too.)

He compared his 'unfair' news coverage to Lincoln's.

He said the protesters were standing 6 ft. apart. (Not)

True. There's nothing about you at all, Donny.

He compared his 'unfair' news coverage to Lincoln's.
Yes, Fake News Media really lit into Lincoln, all right. Then again, Lincoln had a better fake tan, and his wife was not a visa-jumper. But Donny should really be more careful. He might get shot in the back of the head by an actor...twice!

He said the protesters were standing 6 ft. apart. (Not)
And he weighs 220lbs. ;)

In a very real sense he is. His language constantly invalids anyone who either could or does serve as a check or balance on his power.

He's using scare quotes. Perfect for getting his followers to deny that Congress has any authority to reign him in without actually saying it, letting them play the endless game of "Well he didn't technically actually say it in so many words" game like he knows they will.

Trump doesn't understand formal punctuation or even colloquial conventions (or he finds it suitable to come off as such). I don't worry much about scare quotes around her title.

Choosing the word overthrow to describe removing her from that office, that's the provocative bit to me.

Not remove. Not replace. Not step down after a full and fair vote of her peers from that esteemed body. Overthrow. A word that hints at extralegal means.

Yes, I noted the use of the word, too. I intended to mention it. Senior brain fart.

I had to laugh when he was asked if showing a self-congratulatory video at last week's presser was appropriate and he immediately tried to claim he was "sticking up for" all the people working on the pandemic. That video was all about him.

To be fair, it really is a stain on the Congress that no one was bringing this up. Even Tom Cotton, the loudest voice, was not sufficiently loud.

That isn't meant to excuse Trump. Trump is the one person who could get any data he needed, could execute nearly anything necessary, and if he needed money, could go to Congress to ask for it. He was in charge and it was his fault that nothing happened, but I wouldn't let Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi, or any number of other congresscritters completely off the hook. There was enough information available to congress that they really should have been clamoring to know how the White House was preparing to respond to this.

I did not know that. Thanks for the link.

Have I read that correctly - Rosa Parks was a sexual assault investigator? Where did you find that out - the Wikipedia page for her makes no mention of that, stating she was a secretary of a local branch of the NAACP.

Shout out to Matthew Best for the link. Probably should have included it, myself.

Supermeerkat, you bought into the idea that she was really just a tired little lady going to or from insert menial job here? She wouldn't stand because she was so tired?

Don't worry, I did too, because it's what I was taught. But like much of what's hidden about the history of racism, and anti-racism, in the US, it elevates someone from "victim" to "Big damn hero". And when you realize that she may have been trying to force the issue in a way that previous NAACP clients like Claudette Colvin couldn't - *and* she managed to pave the way for MLK Jr. ...

Fixed that for him.

I don't read much into what Dolt 45 says, honestly - that's just signaling for his idiotic MAGAt base. I'm more interested in what he does...and for now, it looks like what's he's doing is ripping off us regular taxpayers.
