The Trump Presidency: Part 20

To be clear, I'm cool with Trump and Pence getting incapacitated from the 'rona and riding out the rest of 2020 with #PresidentPelosi.

What I don't understand is why the Secret Service hasn't stepped in to separate them "out of an abundance of caution" or something. Is there not a single grown-up in the White House?

Perhaps the SS isn't so keen on protecting them. I wouldn't take a bullet for either of them.

I think you are being over-generous.

I saw a question on Quora one time that was like, "Why do people thing that Trump supporters are stupid." The answer went through a lot of the implications of being a Trump supporter and concluded with something like, "...We consider them stupid because the alternative is a lot less flattering."

I wonder... does the secret service purposely leave the gates to the white house grounds open, on the hope that Trump might wander out into traffic and get run over?

They claim that the President and VP are being tested regularly, and that people with access to them are also being tested. It still would make sense to keep them apart.

....
So now we have a situation where trials of a drug are politically controversial. That's really unfortunate. From what information I can get, jumbled through the media, it seems that Chloroquine might help to some extent, but it isn't a "game changer". That's better than nothing, although even that really needs confirmation.

The real question is that if research reveals that the drug won't help, or might help some people sometimes but have terrible side effects on others, will Trump accept the results?

I'm sure we'll find out:

https://www.newsweek.com/swedish-hospitals-chloroquine-covid-19-side-effects-1496368

(Summary: Swedish hospitals discontinued use because side effects and because not much indication of success as a treatment.)

And, I'm not even sure it's a question. Trump lives in his own reality. He'll never accept anything that doesn't fit.

I've seen lots of articles, not just from right wing sources, saying that there is at least some indication that they drug might work, but it is pretty much impossible to sort out decent information from lousy information on the subject. The media doesn't report science well.

Then there's this:
Several hospitals in Sweden have reportedly stopped administering chloroquine to coronavirus patients following reports the drug was causing adverse side effects.

According to the national paper Expressen, hospitals in the Västra Götaland region are no longer offering the antimalarial medication, with side effects reported to include cramps and the loss of peripheral vision.

To quote Robin Williams, "That's not a side effect, that's an effect.

Trump Tweets

The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?

Why didn’t the I.G., who spent 8 years with the Obama Administration (Did she Report on the failed H1N1 Swine Flu debacle where 17,000 people died?), want to talk to the Admirals, Generals, V.P. & others in charge, before doing her report. Another Fake Dossier!

Wisconsin, get out and vote NOW for Justice Daniel Kelly. Protect your 2nd Amendment!

The W.H.O. declared a global health emergency on January 30. Trump restricted travel on January 31.
People are still traveling to the USA from China.

Exactly. I am extremely confident Obama would have pushed for trials of anything that showed promise. From what I read, Chloroquine is one such drug. Obama wouldn't have picked a favorite and yapped all over the telly about it being a game changer, he would have used his power to push forward in a promising direction, and in several directions at once, I'm sure, with other treatments.

Trump, by contrast, saw something that he heard in the media about some miracle cure, latched onto it, and made it all about himself. I'm sure that when it turns out that it isn't a miracle cure, he will deny he ever said it was.

Good post. Followed by Trump, comparisons between the two heavily favor Obama. The contrast is amazing.
