The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Presidents usually avoid boasting about the stock market, aware that today’s gains can be wiped out by tomorrow’s events.

It’s a lesson Trump is learning the hard way. Covid-19 has now erased all the stock market gains of the Trump presidency.

It’s kind of weird that they think President Trump can learn things.

I had that same thought.

His gaslighting today includes blaming China and pretending he's doing an historically excellent job.

He's of course reminding everyone if only the fake media reported honestly, especially the WA Po.

There's a photo going round of his notes for the presser. In addition to being in an enormous font, he's Sharpied out "Corona" and scrawled in "Chinese".

If that's legit, it *proves* to me how Trumpy is deliberate in his choice of name to deflect blame. And perhaps to get in a racist dig at the same time in order to serve up some red meat to the deplorables.

If one single fact could tell the tale of this sociopath's maelific mishandling of the matter, it would be his outright statement about preferring to leave a ship loaded with sick folk offshore because it would "double the numbers" in the country if allowed to berth. Optics before empathy. It takes a special denialism to think this damaged wreck of a human should or could be the comforter-in-chief.

It does seem to be legit. I forgot to put the link to the source. Have rectified above.

That would be Miller doing that. Trump can barely draw a line with a Sharpie and otherwise can only sign his name. While Trump is usually racist only inadvertently, being an outright racist prick is very much Miller's shtick.

I seem to be relying increasingly on the British press for Trump news coverage. Trump's constant bashing of American news media seems to be gradually having an effect. Below is a quote from a report in The Guardian this afternoon:
Donald Trump reverted to his blame-casting, grievance-airing, media-bashing ways on Thursday in a press conference that started strangely and ended in an even weirder place. It was the same Trump who spent more than four years lambasting the “fake news” media as enemies of the people. But now it was taking place during a global pandemic in which thousands of lives depend on trustworthy sources and reliable information. Link

Welcome to the Dark Side! ;)

Whatever may be said about the Grauniad's political leanings, it tends towards reporting the facts.

Breaking story: GOP head of Senate Intellligence COmmitee may have profited off early inside knowledge of how bad the virus might get;

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/19/politics/richard-burr-coronavirus-comments/index.html

I don't know if any laws were violated, but this stinks on ice.

From what I read, I'd have to say that, rather than having inside info, he just used the info publicly available and suspected what was going to happen. That's not being immoral or crooked; it's being smart. Unless something else is uncovered, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I don't know if it was "inside" information so much as being able to see the writing on the wall. The fact that he was saying one thing to the public while telling something closer to the truth to big donors is more concerning to me.

It took a deadly pandemic and a worldwide economic shutdown to bring Trump's economy back down to Obama levels.

Your memory is faulty.

Obama brought us out of a worldwide economic shutdown.

Trump is walking us right in to a worldwide economic shutdown.

Evidently you prefer the latter, for some inexplicable reason.

I think we need to look at this with a little more objectivity. While Bogative or anyone else claiming the 2008 recession was in any way Obama's fault is ludicrous, I think we have to admit that what is happening to our economy right now is not Trump's 'fault' either. Even if Trump weren't POTUS, this virus' effect on the country/world would have affected the stock market and economy. While Trump may have contributed to it due to his poor handling of the crisis, we'd still be in an economic crisis. As much as I detest the Orange Turd and wish I could blame him everything, it simply isn't true.

True, though it might be argued that Donnie's incompetence has made what would have been a bad situation worse.

If Trump wants to take all the credit for Obama's economy, he should also take all the consequence of other things he didn't have much to do with.
