The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Mnuchin just siad the unemployment level might reach 20%/. If it reaches half of that, that is probably curtians for the GOP in November.

Total ad hominem: Oh, yes, Mr. Mnuchin. I totally believe your hair is jet black. You look so young!

I can't help thinking something like that whenever I see politicians with obviously dyed hair. Me, I think a little gray shows life experience.

Faux News has started backpedaling on that crap so hard that their shoes are coming off.

Newt Gringrich claimed the reason the rightwingera didn't accept the claims about the risk of COVID19 was because they assumed the liberal media was blowing it out of proportion.

I mean, it's not like we had the WHO to listen to, or our own CDC, but it's the fault of the liberal media for telling the truth.

BTW, who in the media was wrong? I'll give you a hint, begins with F and ends with X...

That page also shows that President Trump holds the record for the fifteen largest one-day drops.

There does not appear to be any reliable evidence that he signed printouts of those days.
On the other hand, given how chuckle-headed our POTUS is, I suspect a wag might be able to get him to sign a print-out of one of those drops by sweet talking him as he holds out a pen and paper.

Or just turn the page upside down. He couldn't tell the difference.

Yeah, I'm waaaaay behind in this thread.

Well I would rather that bailout comes to us instead of the banks.

Given that that also makes overwhelmingly more economic sense? Yeah. Given capitalism, money will inevitably gather at the top. The GOP's standard push to support the economy by adding directly to the top is wildly inefficient, in fair part because it'll be much more likely to effectively stagnate there, instead of being used rapidly and repeatedly before getting to the stagnation area, like happens when the money goes directly to the people.

Trump makes me realise just how strange the USA's psyche is.

Odd. Is the UK's psyche strange? Poland's? Brazi's? China's? North Korea's? <Stop me when you get the point.>

First thing I'd do is put an upper age limit on those who can run for president. 60 for first or second term.
Odd. Seems to me that important traits would include (not in any particular order):
  • Scientific literacy
  • Historical knowledge, especially related to the history of how nations rise and fall
  • Demonstrated competence at running a large organization
  • Working knowledge of macroeconomics
  • Working knowledge of ecology
  • Skillful at politics including just a bit of deception to get to the desired end.
Given all that, then we can talk about age.

Given Brexit, one would have to say yes. I know of no other time when a first world country volunteered to become a third world country.

Not being American, all I can do is observe from the outside, looking in. From there we know America is capable of electing someone who ticks all of those boxes, but we also know America is quite happy to put an idiot in charge. Thus no conclusion can be drawn on the matter. Until November. Then either America will realise it made a horrible mistake by giving the dog the car keys, or will say "Now that you have my car, take my shotgun as well."

The WHO? That proves is a one world government plot.

Really, isn't anyone going to defend Trump's handling of the COVID-19 crisis? Not even an eyeroll to criticism?

I was just about to do that yesterday during the first part of the virus press briefing, when trump, Fauci, Birx and even Pence were actually doing really well. Good advice, good tone, avoiding partisan accusations, generally just what you would like to see.... and theeeen it all fell apart and trump/Pence just about broke their spines auto-fellating and talking utter garbage, particularly during the Q&A.

I saw a quote on Twitter attributed to the President where he claimed something like, "I knew it was a pandemic before it was declared a pandemic."

Seriously.

Now, I don't have much expectation for Trumpet supporters, but I really have to ask, who in the blazes would be stupid enough to believe that?

Yes, I saw him say that during the q&a section of the aforementioned press conference. It would be bizarre if it wasn't trump saying it.

Who would have thought that eroding confidence in experts and institutions could possibly have consequences?

That's really funny. I once heard a right wing radio talk show host play a clip by Bill Maher, complaining about the level of scientific illiteracy in US politicians. The host's response was
"You want scientists running the country? Hitler was a scientist. Is that the sort of person you want in charge?"

Leaving aside the Godwin and the historical inaccuracy, science is the enemy.
