Why do i not find this comforting/
Because there is no comforting option. Whether Trump lives or dies, it'll be bad either way. Going further, even if Trump was infected, he'd almost certainly lie about it to try to keep up his strongman public persona, so we're left in a position where we cannot reasonably trust the claims coming out of the White House.
Going further, that, alone, is already a pretty good indication that we're likely to have a million people dying of the coronavirus in the US, given the horrendous mishandling of the problem that's inevitably going to be happening when the top government officials can't be trusted hand in hand with that utter lack of trustworthiness.
A number that will doubtless be artificially reduced given the lack of available testing and number manipulation by the Trump administration.
Of course, even with that, we've got
an admission on record.
CDC director Robert Redfield admitted some Americans who seemingly died from influenza were tested positive for novel #coronavirus in the posthumous diagnosis, during the House Oversight Committee Wednesday.
As it is, at last check, if one tests positive for the flu, they're very, very unlikely to get tested for the coronavirus as well, given the lack of testing capability.
In my opinion, the best thing for the US, at this point, would be for him, Pence, and particularly Moscow Mitch, to all catch this disease and die of it, and for the entire GOP to disintegrate shortly after, much like the Whigs after the death of Harrison.
( I absolutely reject violence or conspiracy against him - creating martyrs would be counterproductive, and also, the assassins would be murderers, which I oppose. )
Death by karma is much less of a rallying cry than martyrdom, after all. And man, Trump, McConnell, and the rest of that ilk have earned a friggin' lot of bad karma.
Perhaps then we could have a second party comprised of actual conservatives, rather than radical proto-fascists, and there could be a serious debate about what would best serve the country in the future, without the conspiracy theorists, the "power at all costs" Moscow Mitch types, and other radicals.
It's a nice wish. Given the far too rich forces behind the scenes, though, and their current entrenchment, enabling, and the damage done already, I don't see that as a particularly likely scenario, unfortunately. To get to a point like that, the rules of the political game are going to need to be upended a bit and returned to that which will actually serve the general public, rather than almost exclusively the desires of the very rich.
