The Trump Presidency: Part 20

This can't be a real quote, can it?

This is totally moronic. And I mean that in the literal sense with the original meaning of moron. I mean, Webster's definition 2

2dated, now offensive : a person affected with mild intellectual disability
It's real.

And we still don't have enough tests for high priority cases here like all the ill employees at Life Care Center where so far 99% of the patients test positive.

I was about to ask our resident trump disciples if they could defend or explain this... string of words, when it hit me... Is it just me, or have they been away from the forums the past few days?

It's not just you. I also have noticed a certain contingent has been mostly silent.

Trump Tweets

Americans are the strongest and most resilient people on earth...We will remove or eliminate every obstacle necessary to deliver our people the care that they need, and that they are entitled to. No resource will be spared.

It is my great honor to declare Sunday, March 15th as a National Day of Prayer. We are a Country that, throughout our history, has looked to God for protection and strength in times like these....

....No matter where you may be, I encourage you to turn towards prayer in an act of faith. Together, we will easily PREVAIL!

At my request, effective midnight tonight, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and MSC have all agreed to suspend outbound cruises for thirty days. It is a great and important industry – it will be kept that way!

Prayer works. Look how successful pray the gay away works. It always amazes me that people credit prayer when something works out the way they want, but when it doesn't, resort to the "It wasn't in God's plan" or "God answered, just not the way I hoped" excuses.

At what point do you think Trump voters are going to realise that electing a know nothing know it all with the emotional maturity of a spoilt toddler as their President might not have been a good idea?

If they haven't figured that out by now, they never will.

Wait, Trump is tested and we'll get the results in a day or two?

Tests are done so much faster here. What's going on?

Don't think anyone has touched on him saying Google has 1700 engineers working on software to get people to testing centers.

As a retired engineer, I knrw this was BS as soon as he said it.

Turns out, Verify (a company owned by Alphabet, Google's parent) will have a small website in place for the Bay Area in California only in the near term.

ETA: https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/13/...testing-screening-website-drive-thru-covid-19

One that was originally to be used by the medical community, but has since been expanded in scope because of being called out by Trump.

Maybe a tiny silver lining to the overall harmful lie? Could be a negative, too, though, in practice.

Hmm... To poke a bit -

From the NYT opinions -

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi early Saturday celebrated passage of legislation she described as providing paid sick leave to American workers affected by the coronavirus.

She neglected to mention the fine print.

In fact, the bill guarantees sick leave only to about 20 percent of workers. Big employers like McDonald’s and Amazon are not required to provide any paid sick leave, while companies with fewer than 50 employees can seek hardship exemptions from the Trump administration.

(snip)

The White House and congressional Republicans, who insisted on the exemptions as the price of bipartisan support for the legislation, bear the primary responsibility for the indefensible decision to prioritize corporate profits in the midst of a public health emergency.

Instead of pressing executives to support a comprehensive sick leave law, President Trump held a Rose Garden pep rally for corporate America on Friday afternoon, showering praise on the chief executives of big employers including Walmart, Target and Walgreens.

But House Democrats also failed to act in the public interest. Paying sick workers to stay at home is both good policy and good politics. Why not pass a bill that required all employers to provide paid sick leave and then force Republicans to explain their objections to the public?

Yup, gotta try to find ways to spin Republicans having power and consistently using it in ways commonly known as "evil" and Democrats trying to actually get as much good as they could actually get done as critically of Democrats as possible.

In other administration response to Coronavirus news...

'Please only serious responses': Jared Kushner reportedly looked to a Facebook group to crowdsource ideas to stop the coronavirus

It's not the worst place to look, I suppose, but... :jaw-dropp

If they're turning to Facebook, what going on with the experts at hand? Or are they too busy trying to sabotage them like they've been doing with every other part of government?

For a moment of levity, either way... this little video is hilarious (and informative).

Who are the "resident trump disciples" and how do you tell if someone is one or not?

I'm not sure, but I bet they will talk about something totally unrelated to how Trump is handling the corona virus crisis.

I pray he catches corona.

I pray he infects Pence.

Well, if we are going to go down that path, I’m voting for syphilis.

ETA
Wait. Is it too late to change my vote to drug-resistant syphilis?

American Exceptionalism - government/corporate sabotage edition. Fewer and less effective tests, the requirement that the CDC verifies all tests for them to be officially declared positive, dramatically less efficient equipment to deal with all kinds of relevant and related stuff...

In short, other countries can have testing done in 4 hours. In the US, greatest and richest country in the world? Ha!

The latest from Europe is really scaty, with most of Europe going into italy style lockdowns.
If the US goes into lockdown. we are looking at msaaive upheavle.
