The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Don't forget... March 7: I didn't know people died from the flu.

It really blew my mind when I heard him say this. It not only ignores the thousands of mostly elderly Americans who die every year, it ignores the 50 million people that died in the flu pandemic during WWI. Its like this moron never learned a damn thing in school.

Since the economic news on Monday is going to be really bad because of Today's developments,I am expecting a huge meltdown from Donnie, impressive even by his standards.

I don't think he'll melt down, I suspect he'll shut down; become incapable of speech itself, or damn close. His brain is pretty close to not coping and I don't think he'll explode in public, but rather implode.

Indeed.
There are many Americans who become enraged at the thought of the government limiting their activities or movements.

This is one of the factors that swung it for me to make sure I was not going to get on the plane for my wedding in the USA*. We all remember how thin a veneer civilisation is in the USA after New Orleans.

Thousands of disenfranchised people with guns having family members left to die while the rich get 5-star medical treatment...

*Though Trump has helped us out by banning UK citizens from going to the USA.

Its like this moron never learned a damn thing in school.

It isn't like he never learned a god damn thing; he's never digested a single fact if it isn't tangentially about him, about more money for him, or maybe Ivanka's measurements.

His own grandfather died from flu

Trump Tweets

BIGGEST STOCK MARKET RISE IN HISTORY YESTERDAY!
Which only goes to show how stupid stock traders are.

The increase in the Dow seemed to coincide with the Emergency declaration... so its reasonable to assume that the increase was caused by the declaration.

Yet what changed by the declaration? Now Trump has more power...The man who tried to do a TV broadcast to re-assure the nation and ended up lying about his own policies (i.e. that cargo would be affected by travel restrictions to europe) has more power. The man who has used the Covid-19 pandemic to hype border security with Mexico (despite the fact that Mexico has fewer cases than the U.S.) now has more power. The man who ended up shaking hands with over half a dozen high-level executives (despite the fact that he had been exposed to the virus on multiple occasions, and despite widespread suggestions not to shake hands) now has more power. The man who didn't even know the flu killed people now has more power.

Why would stock traders be re-assured at all by the knowledge that Trump himself has more authority?

I think it would have been a good idea for the president to talk to the executives of the larger retail outlets to ensure they have contingencies in place to make sure people can get supplies even if Covid19 gets worse.

Some people are just questioning the wisdom of dragging them in front of the cameras. Just a statement about "we have talked to stores to ensure available supplies" is enough.
It's not about supplies. They are offering their parking lots to be used by mobile testing facilities.
My mistake... I didn't realize the context between the meeting between Trump and the Executives. Still, the same argument applies... he didn't have to introduce the executives or have them appear on camera... just say "these companies have agreed to have their parking lots used..."

Remember, we're talking about a guy who concerns himself with TV show ratings while in the midst of a national emergency. It's all about showmanship for him because that's what he basically is: a showman.

In the spirit of non-partisanship I say let's not go full fuelair, full medieval, in our rhetoric here.

One hopes that Trump will become a better, more introspective man who learns to seek wise counsel, although he's already great.
Thank you for reminding me that not all thoughts should be aired. (In fact, I told that to our departed colleague more than once.) Even when those thoughts are in large part sincere.

I've never posted anything like that in my many years here spouting off about all sorts of deplorable characters. This reflects the severity of my views about how destructive Trump is. Still, point taken.

Santa: so what would you like for Christmas, little friend?
calebprime: I wanna dragon!
Santa: ...anything else Santa can get you than a dragon?
calebprime: I wannna see Trump become a better, more introspective man who learns to seek wise counsel!
Santa: ...would you like a Norwegian Ridgeback or a Hungarian Horntail?
That's funny!

The giant parking lots that are almost always 3/4 empty?

Such noble sacrifice!
May not be a huge sacrifice, but it may still cost the companies which allow their lots to be used.

People may decide to avoid the stores in question out of paranoia about the disease (i.e. "Don't go to those stores because you'll catch Corona in the parking lot")

The testing centers might cause traffic problems that might deter regular shoppers (depending on how the centers are organized.)

Or, they may find that that '3/4s empty' parking lot is closer to being full by people shopping for supplies, but now they can't find parking because of the testing centers.

There is of course no guarantee that any of that will happen for sure, but they are risks to the companies involved.

Who are the "resident trump disciples" and how do you tell if someone is one or not?

Ummm.....by their posts? Brought to you by the Office of the Blindingly Obvious.

ETA: pretty much ninja'd by Safe-Keeper.

Did you ever wonder if you were in the grip of an ideology?

How dare you confuse me with a MAGA hat wearing Trumper.

Question answered!

What question?

There ya go.

While it is not the biggest one-day percentage increase (two days in October 2008 have larger percentage increases), it is the biggest DJIA one-day increase based on raw numbers.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_daily_changes_in_the_Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average

ETA
That page also shows that President Trump holds the record for the fifteen largest one-day drops.

There does not appear to be any reliable evidence that he signed printouts of those days.
On the other hand, given how chuckle-headed our POTUS is, I suspect a wag might be able to get him to sign a print-out of one of those drops by sweet talking him as he holds out a pen and paper.

What's so damn stupid about this is that the day before, again, the largest raw number drop in the history of the Dow happened, and that was 100% caused by his dumpster fire Oval Office speech. I guess he just figures everyone forgot about that one. So far in the past you know.

Probably not much need to test them.

Of course they've got it.

They need to be tested to know how isolated they need to be and for how long.

Health care workers need a precise measure of risk.

Infected workers need to prove it is work related in order to get worker's comp in this state.

Trump tested Negative for the virus.
But apparently his doctor is not a MD but an Osteopath.
Why do i not find this comforting/
